Our arena is now fully lit and available for evening use! It is a full 40x60m sand and Treadlite (rubber) arena with 1.2m-high post and rail fencing. There are 14 mains-powered floodlights on 8m poles evenly spaced around the entire arena. The areas surrounding the arena are also well-lit enough to tack/untack at your float. We generally have a 20x40m dressage arena set up with markers plus a selection of jumps out (which you are welcome to move/adjust).

The cost is $15 per rider (shared use), within your booked hour, or you can book out the whole hour for $40 to have exclusive use of the arena for yourself/your own group.

⛈️ If the weather is bad enough for us to cancel lessons (i.e. more than light showers) you can choose to have your booking credited or postponed. Otherwise, our 48-hour cancellation policy applies.

A well-earned refresh for the hardest working part of our property. AA Contracting installed our 40x60m arena in 2017 and it has had many thousands of rides on it since. Great to have this done as we head into the muddy & dark season.

👨‍👨👨‍👨 Group lessons are a cost-effective way to get the most riding time. They are also really social and supportive.
🏅 Our groups are small (typically 4 riders) and graded, for a quality learning experience.
📅 They are a whole-term enrollment with payment due up-front. Make-up lessons available when cancelled in advance.
👩‍🎓 No beginners - group lessons are slow going for new riders, so we start new riders in private lessons or via our holiday program. Group lessons are an option once they start learning to canter.

Big congrats to our four successful C candidates today! It's a big exam and you put a lot of time and effort into preparing yourselves thoroughly. Massive thank you to coach Stephanie Clement who spent hours with the girls making sure they were strong candidates, and examiner Rebecca Dearden who gave her time to examining the riders. We're very proud of you!

We love our winter balage! All our horses, from minis to ponies to thoroughbreds do really well on it. 💡 Fun fact - contrary to popular belief, balage/haylage is NOT high in sugar; the sugars get fermented into free fatty acids during the first few days after wrapping. That doesn't mean it's low in calories though - balage retains more nutrition than hay and is better for respiratory health because there is no dust.

If you only have a small number of horses (unlike us 🤪), you will need the small ("conventional") bales so that it gets used up within a couple of days after opening. Highfields Equestrian supplies great mini balage for horses.

Obligatory mention of botulism risk - see the linked article for great info. But basically there mustn't be soil or dead animals or heaps of moisture in the bales.

Haylage can be a useful hygienic forage for horses, especially those with moderate to high energy requirements. It must be made, stored and fed with care, however, because it can be harmful if it goes off or is not made correctly.

⚠️ Term 1 lessons start this week (Monday 29th onwards)⚠️
You might have your first lesson before you have your first day of school; you will have your bookings email from Bookeo with all your lesson dates.
Top tips:
🕐 Your booked time is your mounted lesson start time (except pony rides). Arrive 15 minutes earlier for privates and 30 minutes earlier for group lesson, to groom and tack up.
⛔️ Can’t make one of your lessons? Log in at https://bookeo.com/evrspc/customer and cancel your lesson online. If you do this >48 hours before your lesson it will be credited to your Bookeo account. Group lesson credits need to be used within the same term.
⛈️ If the weather is really bad, I (Kelly) will get in contact at least an hour prior via text to cancel privates. Group lessons are never cancelled.

Eight riders, four days, two coaches… one great camp. Thanks very much to Waitara Pony Club for hosting us at their awesome grounds, Muzi Pottinger for the very inspiring visit and chat, Karis Spurway for the show jump coaching, Alice from Fiber Fresh Equine - New Zealand for the talk and demonstration and PJ Photography for the beautiful portraits. Whew! I was in my pyjamas by 6pm, very ready for a sleep in my own bed, but also looking forward to doing it again next year 🤗

Do you have an experienced, steady dude sitting in the paddock needing a semi-retirement job? We are on the lookout for a couple more school horses to spread the load for our exisiting golden oldies. Our school horses are mostly ex-Pony Club horses who are no longer up to a full competitive workload or jumping high but get along happily under our light-but-consistent workload and enjoy all the love and attention of their enthusiastic, carefully supervised riders.
Ideally 14-16.2hh, full-care lease or purchase (but limited budget). Need to be able to w/t/c and jump at least 50cm. Happy to bring something back into work/condition. Great references available. Contact Kelly on 021 652 858 or [email protected]
