Follow our homebred horses & ponies. We only breed the occasional one now. The stud is winding right down.

I recently got 4 boxes of slides my Dad had taken in the mid 1980s transferred to digital.
If you're interested in harness - light & heavy...check these out. The gigs are at Cambridge A&P show. The haymaking fielday was at our Waotu farm. Then there's some of our stallion Guildford Duke being harnessed up at home - Kairangi Rd near Cambridge, plus out & about. He was so full of presence 🥰
You'll also see a young looking Alan...and Mack! Plus my Dad.

Alan's Mum loved to collect newspaper clippings.
Here's some from when we lived in the Waikato & were very involved with the heavy horses. We used to take our Clydesdale stallion Guildford Duke to most of the days & lots of other things. He was bred by John Gibberd - he's in one clipping.
There's also a article about Denby Lodge. My first job when I left school was working there. Although the sales complex in the article was built later on.

Sorting through office stuff...
Here's an article published in the NZ Horse & Pony in 1992 about Meersbrooke Sporthorses.
We established the stud in the early 1980s. The move to Taihape was in Jan 1993.
Dukes stud fee looks pretty cheap at $350!
Ambassador would have been only 2yo when this article was written. We were still debating between him, & Meersbrooke Master as the junior TB/ Clydesdale x stallion.

Clyde's a Thoroughbred foal...but he's determined to identify as a proper crossbred Meersbrooke 😉😁
He's by Rios out of Cartagena. The roan comes from Mum. Her older TB foals Cartago & Zuko both have roan flecking. But, Clyde flashed it up with the white blaze & stockings! He has a personality to match - lots of presence.

Great opportunity if you're looking for a Meersbrooke horse - especially showhunter people.
Twist is out of the GP pony Meersbrooke Wildcard. Grandam is Mini Prix pony Meersbrooke Tequila ( full sister to GP pony Meersbrooke Skyhawk & good ponies Meersbrooke Tigermoth & Meersbrooke Kittyhawk). Tequila was also a half sister to Meersbrooke Alouette (by M. Ambassador) & Meersbrooke Topgun (by M. Iced Ripples).
Tequlia was out of the good B grade mare Wild Cat Angel Dust.
Twist's sire is Meersbrooke Iced Ripples. So no suprise Twist has great form over a fence. And like most Iced Ripples progeny - is good looking & versatile.

Not horses, but another way to pay for their up-keep 😉😁 Our new venture is keeping us busy...
Another very hot 🔥 and busy day at the park today.
There's still some spaces available for tomorrow & hopefully a little cooler!
There's now a dog water bowl & hose in the carpark area too.
Few fun facts for you.
Since we opened 2 weeks ago...
161 individual dogs have visited the park.
Of these 19 have visited more than once.
59 different breeds & crosses have been here - from tiny dogs to big ones.
The most popular breed through so far, are Labrador's, followed by Staffies.

Just sharing this...in case you're breeding a foal next season, and haven't heard about it.
You might want to check cost of microchipping in your area too...seems to vary alot. Our sporthorse foal was $200 to do...just the chipping...and that was part of a visit to get our TB one done. The DNA parentage stuff we chose to do was extra on top. And so would be registration costs with where ever you're wanting to do that.

Sacha Rennie in a different role to usual. Cas is a lovely young horse. He's got 1 foal on the ground out of Sacha's mare Kiwi Ash, with a nice group of mares to cover shortly.
SHOWING - Feilding IA&P Association: Whiskey D’Acciaio was winner of the Champion Led Youngstock Horse at Feilding Show. The young stallion is owned by Sacha Rennie & Josh Lavelle

Great option if you're travelling horses this summer
OVERNIGHT CAMPING
With the closure of the desert road over Jan/Feb - would there be a demand for making our grounds more accessible for overnight campers?
We currently offer overnight camping, but it’s a bit clunky. We are looking to streamline this with a code and instructions on how to let yourself in and out just needing to message the page to get the info.
Camping is currently $20 per horse per night with your choice of a covered stable or open yard. Toilets and showers in the amenities building.
The best thing is McDonalds is about a 1 min walk away and New World a 5 min walk away with other options of takeaways as well.
Do we have a demand for this? 🤷🏼♀️

Got to contribute my (rather rusty 😁) tail plaiting skills to turning out Sach & Josh's lovely 3yo c**t Whiskey D'Acciaio (Cas) today. It was his first show. Weather was terrible. He coped pretty well. Few young boy moments! Sacha's friend Katherine (who did a fabulous job on his turnout) was going to do the showing part...but Cas proved a bit strong. Sach stepped in & took over, as she knows him better. All about education & positive experiences...especially at this age, and being an entire.
Great result. Cas won both his classes & the led young sporthorse championship.
Cas is out of Snowfire (Charlton Javelin x Buttons) by Cassius GNZ. Snowfire is a full sister to Antara Whiskey Mac who Sach used to SJ. Cas was bred by an long time friend of ours Fiona Graham.

Said goodbye to Meersbrooke Pizazz today. He's headed to his new home in Northland. Look forward to following his career.

Not a horse post today...it's the dairy goats that occupy my time at this time of year. We only have 30 does these days...but 2/3 of them have kidded in the past week. Keeping track of who belongs to who is a full time job!
For anyone wanting little goats 🐐...95% of the wee boys are for sale - they make great pets. My older wether mob are awesome for cross grazing the horse paddocks & keeping along the creek tidy. We also have a few of the doe kids for sale.
Most of the kids are by our new sable buck. A few are by the nubian bucks.

Merry Christmas from us all
Our old stallion Meersbrooke Iced Ripples dusted off his moves today to show off. The TB spellers were racing each other...he wasn't going to miss out 😁
Not looking bad for nearly 28yo...he kept it going for quite a while.
Meersbrooke Farm was established in 1982 - originally in the Waikato, before shifting to Taihape in 1993 & then Palmerston North in 2013. We’ve been breeding sport horses & re-educating off the track Thoroughbreds all that time. Our original homebred sporthorses were by reg. Clydesdale stallion Guildford Duke out of TB mares.
Duke’s legacy has continued through his son Meersbrooke Ambassador (Clyde/TB x) & then grandsons - Meersbrooke Iced Ripples (M. Ambassador x Bay Ripples) & Iced Ripples full brothers, Larkspur Ripples & Meersbrooke Sparkling Ripples, who both became foundation stallions - for Larkspur & Camberley Studs.
We’ve bred performance ponies since 1995 - originally by Meersbrooke Sparhawk - dec. (stationbred) & now, by Whakarpiro Sand n Surf (cremello pinto stationbred).
We also breed Thoroughbreds, primarly to race - we train ourselves. We’ve had four TB stallions - our current one being Sir Ego. We also take on racehorses from other trainers at times - either to continue racing, &/or re-educate as sport horses.
Our horse & ponies are very known, & have competed successfully to top level across many disciplines. They’ve also made lots of recreational riders & pony club riders very happy. We no longer breed the sporthorses & performance ponies commercially, but we have the odd one that still becomes available for sale. Most of our horses & ponies for sale these days, are full Thoroughbred.
To assist our training operation we’re constantly expanding our facilities. Hence the cross country course, show jumps & the Cowboy Challenge paddock. The later was built for the horses we had in this years Dunstan Ex Factor Competition at Equidays. It’s for TB’s who’ve retired, & had less than 12mths of sporthorse training prior to the competition. 2018, was the 3rd year we’ve had horses competing there. Meersbrooke Miss Mindi won the Cowboy Challenge class there this year.
