Angel is now ready to go to her new home.

Angel is a 14.1hh kaimanawa, she is the loveliest mare you will ever meet. Will be perfect for someone looking to hack out as that's what she loves. Never puts a foot wrong no matter where you go (beach, forest etc. etc.) Great to hack out alone or in company, good to rug, for the farrier, vet and dentist. Has recently had teeth done, is paddocked with other horses. Perfect for a teenager or small adult that just loves going out and about. Can pull her in after 3 months off and ride in a halter around the farm and she'll do everything right.

Angel went to the beach after 2 weeks off and was such a sweetheart as per usual. It was pouring with rain and we got home absolutely drenched! I'm going to be sad to see this pony go but she'll make someone so happy. She loves going out and is the same everywhere you go, she'd be great for someone who just wants to hack out as that's her happy place. Keep an eye out as she will be for sale soon

Love working at Equus Veterinary Reproduction and Consultancy with the amazing people!

Meet the team Wednesday, happening on Thursday because we are BUSY this week with new babies!

The wonderful Olive McLeod of Olive Branch Equestrian has been with us for 2 seasons now, and we feel like she is part of the family!

Olive is a Feilding local who started really growing a passion for horses at 10 years old when she got her mare Bailey who was 4 at the time. Olive loves working with "problem ponies" through natural horsemanship to help them learn and grow. She is super talented and even starts and schools ponies which she absolutely loves.

Olive currently has 5 ponies of her own, Bailey who is now 8, Angel the kaimanawa, Poppy who she started under saddle herself, Timmy who is an ottb, and Bacardi who is another Kaimanawa from this year's muster. Olive trained and competed her in the Kaimanawa challenge at Equifest and did super well!

Olive tells us she really enjoys working at equus veterinary and with the amazing people there. We are not sure if Olive actually ever sleeps between horses, school, work and Jiu jitsu, but we sure were happy when she agreed to come back this season!

This amazing pony is now on holiday while I focus on my other ponies! Shes definitely used to being the center of attention and runs up to the gate every time I go past her paddock 🙈 My other ponies however are very excited to be back in work 😂

Bacardi was just the bestest pony at equifest, she had a few little silly moments but considering the environment I'm not surprised. I couldn't of asked for anything more from this once wild kaimanawa! I'm so stoked with how it all went and she's pretty proud of herself too 😂 Kaimanawa Legacy Foundation

Bacardi and Olive

The past month has been very wet and muddy which has made me have to change up what I had wanted to be doing with Bacardi. So I've been taking Bacardi on lots of outings and to a couple of shows to prepare her for an equifest environment. I've been getting her used to lots of things she might encounter at equifest, such as flags, noise and also fun things like bubbles and balloons, and she's becoming quite bombproof! We have also practiced parts of our routine and she's doing so well. We’ve been preparing for the obstacle class a bit as well. She has kept progressing more and more over the past month and I'm so proud of how far she's come. She is feeling very equifest ready!

4-MONTH UPDATE

When Bacardi first came off the truck and into the yards I knew she was going to be a fun challenge. The first couple of weeks she didn’t want to come near me and was very wary, but by the end of the second week she was eating out of my hand. The third week proved to be very slow, just teaching her that being touched was okay and gaining her trust. The fourth week was all about being haltered, she was a super flighty mare so it took a little bit of convincing but once it was on she was happy. Week 5 was all about leading around the yards, preparing her to walk back to the house paddocks, she was very slow at getting the idea. Week 6 was the week I got to bring her up home! She was a bit excited on the walk home but once she was in the paddock with her friends she was super happy and relaxed. Soon after that she started learning about cars, dogs, cats, chickens, electric tape and just life in general. After a week at home it started pouring with rain and I decided she needed to come under the shelter so I bought her all the way into the stables with the other horses and ever since she has been progressing quickly. I've started doing obstacles with her recently and teaching her to be curious and brave. She is now part of the family and such a willing young pony who has taught me so much.

More about Olive:
My name is Olive, I am 14 years old. I have been riding for nine years and working with young and green ponies for five years. I really enjoy learning and have been to many clinics, including multiple ones with Russell Higgins. I love working with young and green ponies and seeing them have lots of fun with their new riders. I believe I have a fun, natural, connected approach to my training which creates a safe and happy environment for the horses. I understand that horses need to be free to learn at their own pace and need time to gradually build trust and confidence. I love having breakthroughs with ‘difficult’ ponies and then seeing them out there doing better than ever. I enjoy working with all ponies whether they are only going to be happy hackers or are going to be show ponies! I find every pony gives you a new challenge and teaches you so much. I like providing a place where ponies have the opportunity to learn, grow and think for themselves whilst growing in confidence. My favorite quote is from Warwick Schiller “What we can learn from horses about ourselves is much more important than what horses can learn from us about themselves”.

So excited for the season ahead!

Today our 2024 breeding season team got together for lunch and some learning. We are so excited to welcome back some super previous staff, and to have some awesome new people join us.

Poppy at the winter training day, she did very well for her first time indoors. She had a few refusals in the 40cm and 50cm. Excited to get her out more, and take her up the heights.
