The Accredited Breeders Scheme used to consume a large amount of my, and the Dogs NZ CHWC time, with us doing comprehensive reviews of required and recommended tests each year. This meant that it was a good resource for anyone looking for the right disease test to do for their breed.

With the discontinuation of the Scheme, and overwhelming amount of information and opinions on which disease testing is best for your breeds it can be really hard to figure out what to do. If you look, you will find, but what does it all mean? For those who have listened to me prattle on about it, DM (SOD1) is the best example of a mis-used test.

The Kennel Club (UK) have their "Health Standard" which is an evidence-based collection of disease tests and breeding practice specific to breed. A lot of work has gone into this, and it takes into consideration breed preservation and relevance of disease to the breed so that tests that aren't supported by science, aren't included.

I’m chuffed to have had my lecture accepted for the 2025 WSAVA congress in Rio!

“Genetic Counseling for Better Breeding; Reducing the Need for Surgery through Informed Decisions”

Presenting in China was an experience like no other. So nervous, imposter syndrome big time, but what an honour, and professionally, I’m not sure I could ask for better. To be able to do it again - is super exciting.

We are back in Hamilton at Hamilton Small Animal Vets for a canine semen freeze clinic on Wednesday 5th March.

We can also do Respiratory Function Grading and Dogs NZ cardiac (auscultation) and patella certification while we are there.

Thanks so much for your support in 2024, it has meant a huge amount to us 🙂

We have had some wonderful achievements, some fantastic litters from extremely valuable semen, assisted in importing valuable genetics into New Zealand, carried out health testing and provided genetic counselling to improve the health of our breeds.

On a personal level, speaking at WSAVA in China was a highlight along with the IPFD workshop in Helsinki I’ve never travelled so much before!

I’m super proud excited to have had a lecture recently accepted for the Rio Di Janeiro WSAVA so I’ll be off again in September 2025 🙂

Making some business and personal goals as I write, so bring on 2025 and ten years of TCI Veterinary Services LTD 🙂

Wishing our TCI GlenBred clients and followers a very Merry Christmas!

As advised I (Becky) am doing AI ONLY from CHB Vets in Waipukarau until the 6th Jan.

We only have the frozen semen with us if we’ve been advised of a breeding, if we don’t have it with us we don’t have access to it until we return on the 6th (don’t worry! Santa and his elves are taking good care of it back in Feilding).

If you need a fresh TCI done over this period, no problem! Just let me know and we can get this done (in Waipukarau).

Thanks so much for the support through 2024. We look forward to seeing what 2025 brings when we celebrate 10 years of business!

- From Saturday 21 December 2024 to Sunday 05 January 2025:

I will be doing AIs only from CHB VETS - 5 NORTHUMBERLAND STREET, WAIPUKARAU

** So that we can package up frozen semen to take with us, please advise us no later than 19th December if you will have an AI due over this time**
(Even if it ends up falling outside the period, we would rather take it with us and not need it! The semen is perfectly safe throughout this time as will be in a nitrogen tank. )

Our last domestic shipments will start no later than the 16th of December 2024 to ensure that shipments arrive before Christmas.

We will resume shipping from the 06th of January 2025.

International shipments not already in progress, have finished for the year and will resume mid-January 2025.

- Normal services resume in Feilding on Monday 06 Jan 2025

Emergency veterinary attention will be available from Totally Vets throughout this period.

UPDATE: Poor old Huntaway boy's (now named Billy) health ended up being a big issue, and he was at the vets for a few days. He's now with a temp fosterer in Palmerston north until we figure out what's going on.
So there is no need for transport at this stage. Thanks for all the offers!

These experiences boost children's confidence with dogs and promote positive interactions. Reading aloud to a friendly dog allows kids to grow personally, as Lynda Cummins of Canine Friends Pet Therapy - New Zealand supervises and offers guidance as needed.

The programme began in November this year, and MCHL staff are optimistic about its growth in popularity and longevity with further plans to incorporate more dog-related experiences
