I have managed a couple of rides on the lovely young c**t Kermit (Rakau McDreamy) since he came back from James & Jozette Hazeldine who have done their usual wonderful job of starting him. I am sure he would have preferred to stay up in the dry for a bit longer rather than our swamp at the moment!

NEW PRODUCT: Perfect for lambing time with the horrible weather we have been having. Similar to a starter drench in cattle this has short and long energy supplements in it plus magnesium and calcium. Comes in a 1litre with a draw off tube for ease of administration (100ml dose per ewe). Handy size to carry on quad or side by side for emergency treatment.

A more detailed write up of what occured in the flood. While the picture makes it look like daylight it was dark when we first got the horses out, with the street lights at the other end of the road to aim for - fortunately the power didnt go off until after we were out.

Jason Woods (Farrier) will be in Wairoa from Monday for a couple of days. He is great with young horses and can also do remedial trims/shoeings for problem feet.

The 'Twins' Ishma and Indy. Both are the same on genetic tests (classic champagne dun). One quarterhorse and one paint. Both have lovely friendly inquisitive natures. Qh has double whorl on forehead, paint has a single is the easiest way to tell them apart at the moment in all their wooly winter glory!

We will be breeding less of our own mares this season so are offering spaces for mares for frozen AI. This can be to any of our own stallions in the stallion album or your own frozen semen. We do frozen semen up to Xmas.

The beauty of a well broken in horse. We had an emergency flood event in the area of town where Amber (Rakau Melting Twist) and Maple (Rakau Red Hot Maple) were paddocked. The CD alert came through just after 6am (still dark here) and by the time I got to them probably only 20mins later the water was up to their bellies. Not far from their gate an older friend was caught in the floodwaters in her car and with the waters approaching waist deep on me by this stage we decided to lift her onto Amber and lead her out on the horse. She was very brave about being put on the horse in the dark (she had just had her 83rd birthday yesterday) and I am sure never expected to have a horse ride as a birthday present! We had to walk about 800 meters with driftwood floating by and firewood and other obstacles underfoot. Grateful for everyone getting out safely (though I will need another ute!).

Edit Mare SOLD Due to buyer default this mare is back up for sale. Rakau Love Potion is a registered perlino tobiano mare who will always have cream based foals (buckskin/Palomino). She injured a back hoof when younger and is missing part of a back quarter but there is enough good hoof to put a shoe on when needed. She was started under saddle and going well in round pen before developing a foot abscess and was turned out, had one foal recently weaned. She is a people horse and loves attention. Last two pics are her foal who is also available. (Cream pearl splash white gelding)

These young Colts have been in a bush paddock for the summer and just came in for some attention and refreshing basic training. The two 2yr are both 150cm and Johnno (coloured yearling) is pretty close to them in height! Khan will be gelded in the next 4-6 weeks unless there is enough interest to keep him entire for start of breeding season or he is sold as a c**t. If we geld him will get his stallion classification first then get some frozen straws.

Dual registered AQHA and APHA he is.versatile all rounder that has shown he can turn his hoof to any discipline and do well. 6 panel negative. Happy to have mares come to Wairoa for insemination or have semen shipped to your vet. We haven't decided yet who we will put in foal to him of our own mares but if you know a mare of ours you would love a foal by him, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Woohoo, our second confirmed grulla champagne filly. She was always a greyer shade than the other filly so had my thoughts she maybe grulla early on and when the other redder looking filly came back as grulla I thought she had to be and nice to get confirmation that she is. She is gbed positive, rest of 6 panel negative by parentage. Negative overo. Has just been weaned and ready to go to a new home. Recently we had another filly confirmed as grulla, this one I was a bit unsure of since birth as because of her white the dorsal stripe wasnt visible. Unfortunately for me she doesn't have silver so regretfully she will be available at weaning. By Tuffs Fancy Jack out of Rakau Dun N Sepia we are pleased to offer Rakau Tuf N Sepia. Due to demand the ridden classes have been opened up to All Breeds for the first American Paint Horse Breed Association New Zealand E Show. Get a group of friends together and set up courses at an arena and give it a go! Deadline now extended to 19th May to give people an extra couple of weekends.

Its with a lot of reluctance that we offer up Sassy (Rakau Stars N Stripes registered with Aphanz). A favourite with the kids despite her extra height she is very good at adjusting to rider level. Will canter if running beside her with kids on board and has given several leadline kids their first canter experiences. She is GBed positive. 2015 born. Good with dogs, floating, catching etc. can be a bit pushy for attention at times. Done mustering, a bit of barrels and a small amount of flatwork. Eoi welcome.

Wow - the beauty of genetic testing so you know what you have! This little filly I assumed was bay from her new born foal colour (and mum being bay it was certainly a possiblity). Instead recent testing has shown she is black EE, with NO Agouti! Also carrying Champagne and dun - so she is a classic dun champagne. Will never have a chestnut foal. Was definitely a surprise as never suspected she was black based!
