Don't let your dog play you for a FOOL today.🤣

If your dog is testing you, breathe.🧘‍♂️ It's totally normal.

Dogs will adjust quickly to a balanced, consistent routine and a confident leader.

But when they experience inconsistency (ie when your training slips) they'll start to test YOUR boundaries, and see how serious you actually are about taking on the role of leader and protector. Dogs won't follow an unstable leader, so if you aren't confident and consistent with maintaining your energy, you'll quickly see regression in your dog's training.

⚡️HOT TIPS to get you through;
- Check yourself; breathe, project calm energy and don't get frustrated.
- Make sure you're fulfilling your dog's needs; exercise (physical & mental) and providing leadership.
- Go back to basics by resetting boundaries and reinforcing training around the home and on your leash-walks.
- Limit affection. Remember, affection should only be given when your dog is in a calm state of mind. Don't reward high energy, or unwanted behaviours. Reward relaxation and respect.

Helping your dog stay in a calm state and live a happy, balanced life is easy when you know what to do! Keep practicing confident leadership, and it'll be second nature in no time.💛

❤ URGENT URGENT URGENT - MISS FRECKLES IS LOOKING FOR A FUREVER HOME OR A FOSTER-TO-ADOPT OR FOSTERER ❤

The prettiest sunflower ever, 🌻 Miss Freckles 🌻 is sadly STILL looking for her furever home - it’s been nearly a year 😭

Through the near 12 months, she has been lifted from the pound - thankfully saved in time from the other alternative, been returned after a couple of weeks of adoption, had interest expressed but nothing taken further, shifted foster homes, and now sadly we repeat the cycle as she needs to be moved again from her current loving foster situation 🙁

Oh Miss Freckles - our heart aches for you because you are simply divine 💔

We urgently are looking for obviously her final furever home, BUT because she needs to move to another fosterer NOW, we are open to a foster-to-adopt situation OR a loving fosterer who has no time issues and will lovingly foster her until she is adopted (we know the NZ landscape on animals is dire at the moment, so please be aware it may be months before families feel more stable in making a long term commitment).

Whichever option you could possibly consider for Miss Freckles, she needs the following in order to keep her safe, happy & the goodest girl:
🐕 HIGH FENCING IS A MUST for this bouncy girl!
🐕 NO CATS, BIRDS OR SMALL ANIMALS
🐕 EXPERIENCE WITH BULLY BREEDS IS A MUST!
🐕 EXERCISE DAILY!
🐕 CLEAR & CONSISTENT, SAFE BOUNDARIES SET (AS SHE IS SO DESPERATE TO PLEASE HER HOOMAN)

Freckles just needs someone who can continue to build her up into a fantastic adult dog, and who has experience. She’s HIGHLY intelligent and would thrive in dog sports such as agility / obedience if you’re keen as she’s very focused! Freckles would also be the perfect active partner too if you’re that way inclined!

So in a nutshell Miss Freckles is:

PARVO ALERT! Our parvo cases are rapidly increasing. Please keep your dogs safe.

We have created this list of frequently asked questions (F.A.Q.). If after reading this you have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

1. What is parvo?
Parvo is a very nasty virus that attacks a dog's intestines. It mostly affects puppies and young dogs.

2. What are the signs of Parvo?
As Parvo attacks the intestines it causes dogs to stop eating, start vomiting and they often get bloody diarrhoea.

3. How does a dog get Parvo?
Dogs get Parvo from contact with contaminated poo particles. Dogs can sniff up these particles directly from an infected dog or pick them up from sniffing the ground where a sick dog has been. These particles can survive for many months and they can be brought into your house under your shoes.

4. Is there a way to prevent my dog from getting Parvo?
YES! Fortunately we have a very effective vaccine available, as long as your dog receives its full course of vaccinations it will protect your dog and prevent it from getting Parvo.

5. What is the best way to treat my sick dog?
Most dogs are so unwell they need to be admitted at the vet clinic. They are put on a drip and treated with drugs to stop the vomiting and treat infections. This treatment is intensive and costly but offers the best chance of survival for your dog.

6. Can I treat a dog with Parvo at home?
If your dog is still drinking you can try and treat Parvo at home. Your veterinarian can provide you with medication to help, but your dog will depend on you to pull it through. Water and electrolytes are critical as sick dogs lose so much of these with the vomiting and diarrhoea. Often dogs will be too sick to try treatment at home.

7. How do I stop Parvo from spreading?
Firstly: keep your sick dog away from other dogs and keep unvaccinated dogs away from areas where the sick dog has been. If possible, disinfect all areas the sick dog has been. This can be done with household bleach, using one cup of bleach per 30 cups of water. And remember that Parvo can linger for up to a year, so don't immediately get a new unvaccinated puppy, as it is likely to get sick as well.

It was an awesome walk given we had 4 spicy boys who all think they're in charge 😉

Spent it walking along the waters edge so we had the ability to cool down in this 29° heat. Again super stoked with how these guys just slip back into routine ❤️

New Year and time for a change!

It's been 3.5 years since starting Camille&Billie and as much as I have loved having Bill as our namesake I've been thinking that we need something a little more related to the cause.

A creative mind helped me curate "Balanced Bark" and I don't think it could be more perfect for what I like to put forward.

Balance is essential regardless of where you see its purpose. Whether it be yes and no, having a balance between working hard and having fun, a balanced state of mind ect

As for the Bark I like to think it brings it together as another way to say "the voice of reason". As well as helping relate the name to dogs 😂

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone I've worked with this year!
