Kane Farms

Kane Farms A diverse family run farming operation incorporating a dairy farm, Hereford and Angus beef cattle
(6)

In 1929 David and Nellie Kane bought 'Westholm' on the edge of the Pomhaka River, Tapanui. A mix of flats and rolling ridges, they raised their 5 children here and Murray took over and added Burnfoot to this. Burnfoot is also bounded by the river and has gravel outcrops at the base of the Blue Mountain. A third block was added by Robertand Mary-Anne in 1996, with Luke and Nicole adding Oyster Cree

k in 2015. Today Peter, Luke and Nicole run a very diverse farming operation which incorporates 660 dairy cows, plus young stock, hereford and angus cattle studs, with the aim of rearing all stock born on farm. We aim to breed stock that performs well and has high production on a grass based system.

Due to our long-term team member Hamish leaving us for an overseas adventure we are on the lookout for a new team member.
We are a family owned and operated business situated 5km south of Tapanui, currently milking 630 cows through a 54-bale rotary shed. Alongside this we have a beef stud and cattle fattening operation which gives a wide variety to the role. You will be working in a medium sized team with a variety of skills and knowledge so a great chance to learn and develop.
The position is tailored towards a junior role, but we would prefer the person to have at least 1 years’ experience on the same farm. Some understanding of modern farming technology may be useful but otherwise a strong willingness to learn. We have a strong belief in off farm training in the likes of primary ITO to help aid in your development and help to achieve your goals.
Some of the things involved in this role include milking, , working with young stock, effluent management, some tractor driving and general day to day farm jobs.
Roster during - summer/autumn two weekends off then work the third.
-winter is alternate weekends off
-calving time is 6 in 1.
An hourly rate is to be negotiated depending on your level of experience.
There is single/couples’ accommodation available off farm in Tapanui.
Start date is preferably late March early April.
If this sounds like you and you have relevant visa please contact us at [email protected] or give Luke a call on 0276998406.

Due to other commitments, our student is sadly no longer able to come and work for us. So, we are on the hunt for someone to join the team at Kane Farms.

We are currently milking 630 cows through a 54 bale Rotary Shed. A wide variety of tasks would be on offer as we also run a Beef unit alongside our Dairy.

We are keen to find someone who is honest, reliable and hardworking; experience of working on dairy or beef farms is not essential as we can provide training. A Restricted Driver’s License is a minimum requirement, with you working towards your full license.

We have a flexible roster which during the summer months could see you getting two weekends off and then one weekend on. An hourly rate will be set to reflect experience, this would be open to negotiation. The position could be a drive in, or we have a 3-bed house available which we can help to furnish.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please private message our page, or give Luke a call on 0276998406.

We look forward to hearing from you!
