Two Brown Dogs at Home makes a monthly donation to Pet Refuge NZ. I have personally made an extra donation today to support this appeal. Please consider doing the same. Even if you give a couple of dollars today, it will be doubled.
Aotearoa New Zealand has appalling family violence statistics and the beautiful pets who are part of many of our families become victims along with the women & children (and at times people of other genders.)

DONATE TODAY for double the impact!
Every dollar donated on Thursday 12 June will be doubled by Pets In The City to help pets like *Snoopy.
Snoopy was at risk of her body shutting down and losing all hearing and vision.
She was in one of the worst conditions our team had ever seen. She was malnourished and underweight. Her legs and tail were raw from flea bites. Infections in her ears and eyes were seeping pus, causing vision and hearing challenges. We rushed her to the emergency vets.
Sadly, pets like Snoopy who come from violence often haven’t had access to veterinary care, either due to financial abuse or being used as a tool of control.
During her exam, the vet discovered Snoopy needed urgent dental surgery to remove decaying teeth. But this wasn’t an option right away; her body simply wouldn’t have been able to handle the sedation.
Given the many obstacles Snoopy had to overcome, our team put together an intensive care plan. She received four meals a day, ear flushes, ointments and oral antibiotics, and three different types of eye drops.
Snoopy was assigned dedicated team members responsible for managing all her medications. There was no room for error. Within a week, we started to see improvement, and her eyes brightened again.
With hope and time, our team can address her other medical concerns as she continues to regain strength.
Sadly, this is becoming an increasingly common reality at the Pet Refuge shelter. We are seeing a marked increase in the severity of violence and its effects on pets’ welfare. But this also comes with increased costs.
Now more than ever, your help matters. Providing all pets with access to veterinary treatment - at no cost to the families - is essential to our program so pets can go on to live new, safe, healthy lives.
Pets in the City are celebrating their birthday, but it’s more important to them that pets like Snoopy get the gifts. TODAY ONLY, Pets in the City will match every donation, up to $10,000.
Just $25 gives pets like Snoopy the chance to receive critical veterinary treatment and recover in safe hands.
