EXCITING NEWS
For the first time I will be having a stand at the North Island Showjumping Championships at Manfield on the 6th/7th Dec, so please come along and say hello and have a browse around the 2nd hand gear I will have for sale - you might find some good Xmas presents at reasonable prices.
I will also be promoting all the activities West Wind has on offer over the coming months and answering any questions you might have.
If you have any clinics or camps you would like to run and are looking for facilities then come have a chat and see if we can help you out.

As most of you are aware I coach at Stanway Pony Club. We are a small club looking for new members and also some fundraising ideas. As I was at Taupo NEC today I took the opportunity to ask Lucinda Green to sign a saddle cloth for me ( signed on both sides ) I have decided to raffle this saddle cloth and donate all the proceeds to Stanway PC. We will start with numbers 1 to 50 so you can either comment on this post or msg me with your preferred number and your name and phone number. Once your payment shows in the account I will put your name on the number. The numbers are $5 each. The draw will be made at our xc/sj open day on 18th Dec and winner will be contacted.

Having a trip away today and tomorrow watching Lucinda Green coaching xc at Taupo NEC.
There was also a Penny Pearce ( Castle ) fundraiser clinic on in the indoor arena being hosted by Muzi/ Bundy and Jesse. It was amazing to have so many top coaches in the same place at the same time. Lots of learning to be had by the riders and us spectator coaches.

Another Sunday away with one of the West Wind Eventing Team. Zeus and Arden competed at Eventing Wellingtons Horse Trial at QE11. After a bit of a panic on the Saturday realizing she had learnt the wrong dressage test Arden and Zeus entered the dressage arena to complete a basic test - not one of Zeus best but a decent score anyway. This time the xc came next and yet again Zeus made light work of it. We then finished with the showjumping which Zeus breezed around to mean that they finished on their dressage score and came 6th in their class.
Well done you two.
Hopefully Tayla will be out competing on Jo after Xmas.

Had a great time last night out with my West Wind Eventing Team at Stanway Pony Club's Open Cross Country Evening. We had Arden on Zeus just having a quick practise before Wellington Horse Trial at the weekend. Then we had Tayla on Jo having their first outing over some xc - just to see how Jo behaved and didn't get too hot but as usual he was a real gentleman. And then we had Holly on Reggie who are both complete beginners over this sort of obstacle. Reggie is very green and Holly a bit nervous but they got there in the end and we look forward to see them possibly out competing at the beginning of next season

A great weekend away at Eventing Wairarapa. I had 2 amazing riders and their parents with me this weekend. Day 1 was not the best start to the weekend with constant heavy drizzle and windy conditions but the girls rode nice dressage tests with their mounts and all scored well. Showjumping wasn't easy either - the rain had stopped but it had made for rather wet and slippy footing in the jump ring. This led to Arden and Poppy having a rail and Arnie and Tayla having a stop but as usual Zeus did his thing ( and I had also put studs in so he wouldn't slip ) and popped around the course clear.
Day 2 was a great day - the sun was out and ground conditions had dried abit so made for good going. The cross country was a meaty course built to test both riders and horses but nothing that should have phased the riders. Unfortunately Poppy and Arnie had other ideas and after a rather sticky start both Arden and Tayla retired their ponies early on. Zeus decided he needed moral support from Poppy to go in the start box but once under way he took all the jumps in his stride and produced a lovely clear cross country round with Arden to finish the competition on his dressage score.
We were soon to find out that he and Arden had actually won their class so what a way to finish the weekend. There's something to be said for these older horses - at 23yrs old Zeus is still enjoying competing ( at lower levels ) and is teaching Arden so much about the Eventing World. As long as you look after your older pony they still have a lot to give.
Well done both girls on an amazing weekend away.

We are now offering overnight stays for you and your horse. A comfy sleepout for you and your friends and either yarding or paddocking for your ponies. Or if you prefer you can sleepover in your truck/float or tent.
BBQ facilities available
We can cater for camps or clinics if you wish to organise one.
Overnight in truck/float etc = $10/person
Overnight in sleepout = $20
Overnight yarding = $10/ horse/pony
Overnight paddocking = $15/horse / pony or $10 for 2nd+ horse if sharing paddock

Below is the message that Equine Films sent me about their Liberty Clinic. As you can see they have listed a few dates available so if you are keen please nominate your preferred date and I will endeavor to get the most popular one booked.
You have until Fri 15th to give me your date because I would like to get a date locked in asap so that people wanting to book a spot can get organised.

That sounds great! The clinic mostly starts with the basic groundwork, getting the horses respect then moving onto basic liberty. In the first school he had most horses bowing, but they all were coming in and following with the whips. He will work to each person/horses level and work with each individually as well as in a group. I think these dates are free, 25/26 jan, 1/2 feb, 8/9 feb, 1/2 march. Look forward to hearing from you. I have been in touch with EquineFilms who run these clinics and they are happy to come to West Wind Equestrian if I have at least 6 people wanting to book a spot.
They are going to forward some options for dates so if you are keen then comment below and give some dates that would suit you and let's see if we can make this work.

Tayla had quite an excited Arnie today. She rode him well and he jumped beautifully after he finished bucking

Looking for his new best friend. Jo is 17.2hh tb gelding. At 17yrs old he has been there and done that especially in the Eventing world. An Ideal prospect for the Pony Club teenage rider looking to try out for Bruce Forbes / Timberlands and even Champs. He is good for the farrier and the dentist. Easy load in truck. Happy to ride out alone or in company. As you can see from the first video he spent last year just giving a nervous teenage rider her confidence back but before that he had been my daughter's competition horse at Pre- Novice Level Eventing. He is an all round cool dude and I am only looking for a new home for him as he is too big for me even just to hack out. I struggle to open gates from him even though he stands perfectly still.( my fault for being too short ) Jo has been out of work for a couple of months now so hence the price drop, but the plan will be for me to get him back in work and find a rider to compete him again. Once this happens the price will increase accordingly. ( Don't know about other people but I would pay good money for a horse I know will safely carry my daughter round a xc course.) SUN 9th June - pop up obstacle course 10am til 3pm $10 + $15 ground fee Our obstacle course yesterday seemed to be a great success so I am going to leave it up in the arena this week.
