We had the team out again this weekend at Whangaehu Sports Day. It was yet another successful trip. This time the girls ( Arden, Tayla and Holly ) did the flat classes on Poppy, Arnie and Woodstock. This was a bit of a mixed bag - Holly with Woodstock came away with a handful of ribbons including Reserve Champion - well done Holly. Arden and Tayla weren't quite so successful but both ponies ( Poppy and Arnie ) behaved beautifully but possibly weren't the type the judge liked. Holly's confidence has improved greatly over the last week or so. Her and Woodstock went off to do games which I think went well but unfortunately I didn't see them competing as I was off judging another class.
In the afternoon it was the big boys turn to show what they can do in the jumping ring.
They started with something a little bit different this time - round the ring jumping hay bales - both were a little bit confused by this at the start but got into the swing of it by the 2nd jump.
This warmed them up for the showjumping. The boys did 70cm and 80cm. Unfortunately Jo got a little lazy in the 70cm and took a silly rail but redeemed himself in the 80cm going clear with Tayla. Zeus came out guns blazing with Arden and zipped around both the 70cm and 80cm to go double clear.
Arden then finished the day doing 70 cms on Poppy - who was a little slow today and they ended up with 8 faults.
Again we came home with everyone happy at their results. ( winning isn't everything ) and improvements made all round.
I'm so proud of these 3 girls going out and representing West Wind Equestrian .

What an amazing day the Team had at Ashhurst Sports Day today
Thank you to APPC for holding such a great event and all the volunteers that helped it run so smoothly.
We had Arden on Zeus / Tayla on Jo / Holly on Woodstock doing the pleasure classes this morning. Not really Jo and Zeus thing but they all came away with ribbons. It was only Holly's 2nd outing on Woody and they were both stars so we had a happy horse and rider.
This afternoon was Showjumping - this was were the boys came into their own.
Arden and Tayla both jumped double clear rounds at 70cms and 80cms on Zeus and Jo First time for both of them doing 80cms. Jo stepped up a gear at these higher heights but Tayla had him under control.
After jumping Zeus round two double clear rounds Arden then went on to do 2 double clear rounds on Poppy at 60cms and 70cms.
We didn't go to win any ribbons in showjumping - it was purely a learning curve for the girls to jump the bigger heights so you can say they were all winners at the end of the day.
Great work all 3 of you.

2 more saddles have just come into my 2nd hand gear shop.
The first is a little leather pony saddle aprox 15 to 15.5 inch seat. Needs a little work done on it hence the price - $150 ono
The second saddle is a Farrington Jump saddle in good order. Black. 17.5in seat I think it's a MW gullet. $1700 ono.
Can bring your horses/ponies over and try the saddles on them in our arena if interested.

Had the 2 big boys out at Pony Club Chesterfield Sheild showjumping last night. Both horses went brilliantly with double clears in the 70cms and just 1 unlucky rail by Zeus in the jigsaw round. We'll done Tayla and Arden

Had a great time last night out with my West Wind Eventing Team at Stanway Pony Club's Open Cross Country Evening. We had Arden on Zeus just having a quick practise before Wellington Horse Trial at the weekend. Then we had Tayla on Jo having their first outing over some xc - just to see how Jo behaved and didn't get too hot but as usual he was a real gentleman. And then we had Holly on Reggie who are both complete beginners over this sort of obstacle. Reggie is very green and Holly a bit nervous but they got there in the end and we look forward to see them possibly out competing at the beginning of next season

Tayla and Jo getting to know one another under the guidance of Muzi Pottinger during their lesson the other day. Looking forward to these 2 joining the West Wind Eventing Team in 2025.
