Paddock Pups

Paddock Pups 22 acres of fully fenced paddock for your pups to run, walk and play with others or by themselves. Experienced handlers and walkers.

Operated in collaboration with Head to Tail. Paddock Pups is the culmination of years of planning, training and fencing a property large enough to provide your pups with the walks that our dogs get - every day. We are very happy to share our property with your pups so that they can have a great adventure with other pups or by themselves. They will experience grassy paddocks, woodpiles and haysheds

, woodland and creeks. We will collect them from your property and return them once they've been walked and dried off ready for a snooze. All you need to do is book whether it's a morning or afternoon walk, whether in a group or solo or whether you need a weekend walk.

We do have a pond but it seems these guys and gals like something a bit smaller.

(Don't worry - the troughs get a thorough clean before stock go near them)

When two labradors get together you just know there's going to be water play and hooning. These two didn't disappoint.

What a busy weekend - and for many of you (like us) the back to school dance is almost done!

On that note, we are considering a school drop off route for Tai Tapu and Halswell schools.

Drop ALL the kids off and we'll drop the fur babies back home once walked.

If you're interested - drop us a line with the number of dogs and your preferred day 😊

Couple of great walks this morning. Lots of pond action!

We walk in groups or with individual family groupings - whatever works best for the dogs. In either case, the pups are destined to get a good run and have a dip in one of the many waterholes.

If you're in need of some help walking your dog - drop us a line. Happy to help on an adhoc or repeat basis.

If you're headed out to Banks Peninsula to enjoy the on Saturday 20th, have you considered letting someone walk the dog(s) so that you can be out a bit longer?

If that's something you'd like, drop us a line. We've got spaces on our morning runs. Also got room for early afternoon if you're based Spreydon / Barrington side of town.

It's going to be hot hot hot so the walks will be shady and watery 🤣 ... probably with some mud for good measure.

We are blessed in Christchurch with some fabulous public facilities and dog parks.

However ... it's not always as fun for the pups as we think. There are HUGE advantages in taking your pup out for a good socialisation session with other dogs and people. They are well designed for dogs, safe, secure, clean and have good facilities.

What they don't always have though, are dogs that know how to socialise and owners that know what healthy dog communication looks like. Often ... we are the problem.

Found this great article from the Association of Professional Dog Trainers - take a read: https://apdt.com/resource-center/dog-parks-good-bad-ugly/

Paddock Pups exists for those dogs that want a quieter interaction with other dogs and a private and smaller group. If that's what you need, connect with us.

Monday's only a day a way and for many it's the day they go back to work after Christmas holidays. Your pup is going to miss you and the time you've spent together over the last few weeks.

If you begin to notice some changes in behaviour perhaps consider your pup is suffering from some separation anxiety or is super bored by themselves at home alone. It's really hard to distinguish the two when you're away from home but, in either case, using a pet service to check in on the dog and perhaps take them for a walk can alleviate symptoms and possibly stop destructive and other negative behaviour.

We're here to help 😃so just drop us a line.

Don't have time to walk the dog but wondering if a dog walking service is worth it?

The answer is yes! Regular walks can enhance your dog's happiness, improve your well-being, and contribute to their overall health. Dogs are social creatures, and the one-on-one attention from a trusted and reliable dog walker can prevent depression and anxiety. Plus, it ensures your dog stays physically active, reducing the risk of destructive behavior. Socialisation during walks is crucial for developing your dog's communication skills and can help prevent aggression, and hiring a reliable dog walker can make a significant positive impact on your life as well as your dog's life.

So ... what are you waiting for?

Who'd wear a fur coat today? Unfortunately your pup doesn't have a choice. Remember those tips on keeping your pup cool in this weather:

1. Half-fill a shallow kid's paddling pool for your pup to wallow in. Just make sure your pup can get in and out easily. Also - put a towel in the bottom so it's not too slippery!
2. Try putting ice cubes in an indoor water bowl, and freeze a big block of ice for your pup’s outdoor bowl.
3. Pup ice blocks are also a great way to keep them hydrated. Just freeze your dog’s favourite treat in water, inside a Kong, or even an ice-cream container.
4. You can find cooling mats at most pet stores. These can be used as crate liners or as beds, and can be helpful for other animals too.

If you can't get out later this evening to walk the dog - drop us a line. We've got spaces for a 30min walk between 6pm and 8pm today.

Introducing "the Woodpile" - well one of them anyway. This is is a favourite sniffery at Paddock Pups and an important part of the mental stimulation and development a dog needs.

Did you know that your dog's nose is up to 100,000 more powerful than yours? They have up to 300 million sniffing receptors to our 6 million! Amazing. Here are some more facts we've sniffed out for you:

1. A dog's nose has 2 functions - smelling and breathing. The air splits when it goes into the nostril and is 'sniffed' and 'breathed'.
2. Dogs have the ability to breathe in and out at the same time!
3. Dogs smell in 3D - they can smell separately with each nostril!

Giving your dog the opportunity to have a good sniff is an important part of their day to day life. If you don't have a woodpile ... let us show your Pup a good time.

Contact us today for your free consultation on whether Paddock Pups might be something to consider.

It's getting hotter! Imagine wearing a fur coat in this weather!

Dogs react to heat very differently to humans and so it's very important that you understand how to keep your pup cool on these hot sunny days. They can only sweat small amounts through their paws, and rely mainly on panting to cool down. Here are some great tips from the SPCA:

At Paddock Pups we offer early morning and evening walks on the hottest days so that your Pups are in the shade, have access to lots of water to play in and can still get their mental stimulation and physical exercise.

Drop us a line if the last thing you want / can do is take an early morning or late evening stroll with the pup that's been inside all day.

Our smaller pups love this paddock - as you can see, lots of room to run around and plenty to sniff and - if they're lucky - a few friends to chase.

If you have a Pup (or two) that needs a walk from time to time as you venture back into the office, check out the website and drop us a line.
