🐈 Meet Bindi 💛
This morning we have a transfer from the Waikato After Hours Veterinary Hospital: Miss Bindi.
Bindi is a 13 week old kitten who presented to the after-hours after her owners found lily 🌸 petals on the floor and pollen all over the wee one.
She has been transferred to TRC to see Trudi today for further work up and care.
Many people are not aware that many kinds of lilies are very toxic to cats. Lilies in the Lilium spp and Hemerocallis spp families are very dangerous eg Easter lilies, Day lilies, Tiger lilies. The entire plant is toxic: the stem, leaves, flowers, pollen and even the vase water.
Once ingested lilies cause kidney toxicity and can cause complete kidney failure within 36 hours without prompt treatment. Fortunately lilies are not toxic to the kidneys of dogs. Prognosis can be excellent if appropriate treatment is obtained as soon as possible!
Bindi is doing okay so far, but needs to stay in hospital for another day or 2 for monitoring, and more blood and urine tests to make sure her kidneys are working normally.🩺
If you are ever concerned that your cat has ingested lilies please contact your local vet as soon as possible. 🏥
