While we’ve had many exciting calves this Spring little Maggie here could be one of the most special. She’s the 1st of 4 ET sisters from Waipiri Sidekick Maggie that have been born the last few days. Sired by either Lambda, Bruins or Dropbox.

Sadly we lost Maggie last November due to a paddock injury in what was one of the toughest days we’ve ever had but these calves are certainly a great result from a tragic day.

Fairly standard these things always happen on a weekend. So a big thank you to Javier from Animal Breeding Services for giving up time in consecutive weekends for both the embryo recovery and implanting. You are a master at what you do and we can’t thank you enough.

It’s been a great Spring for this family line of the Maggie’s along with these ET’s their Great Granddam Waipiri Windbrook Maggie EX2 calving 3 weeks ago and looking as youthful as ever at 12 Years Old while Waipiri Unix Maggie EX is due soon to Sidekick again.

A fantastic night for us at the annual HFNZ awards with our Windbrook and Lambda Progeny teams both making Top 3 in their respective categories.

These were followed up with some great placings in the All New Zealand Photo Comp. We were so proud to see Paris win the Intermediate Age group.

Congratulations to all other winners on the night and congratulations to Wayne Taylor on receiving his HFNZ Honorary Life Membership. A very well deserved reward for his service over a number of decades to the Holstein Breed.

Lot 28 in the ‘75 Years Of Ferdon’ is a Sidekick granddaughter of the legendary SilverMaple Damion Camomile EX95! Who’s progeny around the world have been nothing short of spectacular. Camille is a super milky 2 Year Old (as you can see by the Platform shot just 2 days ago) who featured in the Semex On Farm and is still going strong 9 months into her lactation. She’s only going to get better with age.

We have successfully shown her full sister Waipiri Sidekick Claire - 3rd Autumn Calf NZDE 2022 and there is undoubtedly something special about this family. She’s due in august to Lambda and if Claire’s Lambda is anything to go by then opportunities are enormous.

Our next feature lot in the ‘75 years of Ferdon’ truly is a special one. And upon the catalogue release last week she’s quickly gained a lot of attention. This smart young heifer Candace descends from a family we’ve long admired at Murribrook in Australia and Murray’s success over the years with this family has not gone unnoticed.

A direct lambda from Doorman Candace - an IDW winner and All Australian Winner and then Goldwyn Candace behind her - A Royal Sydney Easter Show Champion, IDW Intermediate champion and IDW Reserve Senior Champion Champion. Add in multiple family members year after year performing this kind of backing in her pedigree Candace has success written all over her.

Our next feature lot in the ‘75 Years Of Ferdon’ is none other than 2023 NZDE Interbreed Junior Champion Waipiri Moovin Toni. To say she is special is an understatement. Just like her outstanding Two Year Old Full sister she’s never followed another Heifer in her class out of the show ring.

To further the excitement around this heifer she’s scanned due in July to Sexed Lambda. If you attended Stratford Show or NZDE this year you’ll know first hand just how good Lambda works over this family with Waipiri Lambd Tonio winning Holstein Junior Champion and Holstein Reserve Junior Champion after winning the Jnr Yearling Class at each show.

Just last Show season Three - yes THREE of her Solomon Sisters won at major shows. Tonio winning the Four Year Old Holstein Class and Hon. Mention Senior Champion, Tottie winning the Snr. Three Holstein Class at Christchurch for Dean Geddes and Topsy winning the Four Year Old Interbreed Class at Stratford and the All NZ Intermediate Cow in June last Year.

That’s just Five of Tonio’s daughters. She still walks in the Herd today at 12 Years old and doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon. A sister to one of the greatest show cows ever in NZ - Tahora Goldwyn Toni EX She has been nothing short of an amazing Brood Cow for us and we’ve gladly seen the success of her progeny around the country.

It wouldn’t be a sale involving Waipiri without a ‘Liza’ featuring. Introducing Waipiri Lambda Lilly - a descendant of Waipiri Oman Liza EX2 herself. Lilly scanned in calf to a July calving ticks all the boxes in what we like in a stylish in calf Heifer and she will sell in the ‘75 Years Of Ferdon’ sale.

Her Montross Dam is one thats hard to miss in the herd. Over 700kgs as a 2 Year Old and Placing 4th in the 4 Year Old Semex On Farm Waikato Ward last year whilst producing over 11,000L in her 305 day lactation, backed by a VG Baxter then Liza herself.

Another successful show for Waipiri at New Zealand Dairy Event. We couldn’t be happier and more proud of how our stock turned out. We took a team of 10 down with 9 making top 7 placings including 5 winners.

A few highlights include EVERY in milk cow winning their Classes, having at least one animal stand in every championship class we could’ve possibly made coming away with 3 Champions and 3 Reserve Champions including Paris and Kristy backing up from last years Intermediate and Senior Championships to stand Senior Champion and Reserve. Sadly with the rules in place we couldn’t take Suri in for the Interbreed Junior Championship but were more than delighted to see Thomas’ success winning Reserve Interbreed Junior Champion with his Jersey Yearling.

Big thanks to Elan Thomas, Carys Davies, Angus Fraser, Brad Cullen, Mal Nikora, Gordon Fullerton, Zane Kite and Thomas Jeyes for their contributions throughout the week. Couldn’t achieve anything we did without you.

💥Waipiri Sidekick Maggie💥

(Sidekick x EX Unix x EX3 Windbrook x EX2 Talent x Lang’s Lead US Maggie EX2)

A truly special young cow who caught a lot of attention very quickly following her win in the Semex On Farm 2 Year Old - Waikato Ward as well as backing that up winning the National Semex On Farm 2 Year Old Championship in June. Whilst looking pretty she was no slouch in the production department giving just shy of 600kgs in her 2 Year Old lactation.

From there she kicked on calving in mid July with a beautiful Lambda heifer calf. Come October she looked a dream, In calf first week of mating again to Lambda and she headed to Waikato Show where like everything else she’d done in 2023 she didn’t disappoint winning both Intermediate Holstein and Interbreed Championships.

Sadly less than 2 weeks later she damaged her hip in the paddock which lead to us putting her down. Fortunately the ever reliable Javier Balladares from Animal Breeding Services not only did an embryo recovery on a weekend but also implanted 8 embryos by Lambda, Bruins and Dropbox the following weekend. For taking time out of your personal life we can’t thank you enough.

A very busy time of year early in mating and trying to get maize in the ground had us nearly pulling the plug on attending Waikato Show. However the idea of presenting our cows to a judge and breeder of John Gardiner’s calibre was to hard to pass up. We pushed on and took 5 cows and 2 young stock and we couldn’t be more pleased with our results!

Some of the highlights range from having at least One animal in each Breed and Interbreed Championship, Two of the Three animals in the Supreme Holstein and Interbreed Championship, Maggie And Paris featuring in the Holstein team to win the Don Ferguson Memorial Trophy and Betty returning to Waikato Show in the Aged Cow Class for the first time since taking home Reserve Jnr Champion as a calf back in 2017.

A big thank you to Zoe, Elan, Carys, Andrew, and Brett for their help throughout the show week.

A fantastic 24 hours here at Waipiri kicking off with a great election result last night and an All Blacks win in a nail biter for the ages against Ireland this morning. Capping off the hat trick this afternoon was 💥Waipiri Mogul Kristy EX2💥 giving us a Chief heifer calf. Kristy (in the video below) now 7 years old is on her 6th calving shows no signs of slowing down. This Chief calf joins multiple Lambda and Moovin sisters.
