6 March 2025 - Updated round up of desexing deals around New Zealand, including the new Snip n Chip deals from SPCA. Let’s get those pets desexed! -Helen

NOTE: We do not provide the desexing ourselves, we just publish information about deals so please contact the specific organisation directly if you have any questions.

If you know of any deals that we haven't listed here please pm us so we can update.

If you don’t see a desexing deal advertised for your area, we advise you to:
1) check the dedicated SPCA desexing website: www.spcadesexing.nz, and
2) phone all the area vets for a cost comparison, as vets do have different prices, and
3) contact your local SPCA centre to discuss desexing options in the area.

NZ WIDE

Humane Society of New Zealand will pay up to 50% of the cost of desexing a pet, one animal per household for those in genuine hardship. A Community Services card is required for this assistance. For an application form, please email [email protected]

You will then be asked to repay the rest of the cost of desexing, from as little as $1 per week, to help continue being able to get other pet cats desexed. This is considered a donation and is tax deductible: you can claim 33% back from IRD. Desexing applications are put on a waiting list until funds are available, currently 18 applications on the waiting list. See https://kittycatfixers.org.nz/application/ for full details.

Meet Rosie 🐾

Rosie is a cheeky 9 month old domestic short hair cat, who presented to one of our wonderful vets Dr Melissa Mcginnis at the start of October πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸŽƒ

Rosie had been experiencing persistent vomiting, lethargy and had not been eating or toileting for 2 days. 😰 During her physical examination, there was a noticeable blockage felt in her abdomen, but a foreign body could not be ruled out until Xrays were taken πŸ˜…

So off Rosie went to our neighboring clinic CareVets Rototuna for her X-rays, and clear as day the problem was found! (swipe through photos to see xray) 😱 Rosie then underwent an exploratory laparotomy, where the item was located but had to be removed rectally (ouch!) 😧😡 After cleaning the object, the culprit of all this was a 4mm round Bratz doll shoe! πŸ˜°πŸ‘‘ that's one expensive shoe! πŸ€‘

Rosie's road to recovery started off a bit slow, with her spending a little more time in our hospital, but once she was home, she was back to her normal, rebellious self! 😹

We hope Rosie has gone off her taste for Bratz doll shoes πŸ€— She sure made our list of memorable patients! πŸ˜‰πŸ€©

Meet Frikkie 🐾

Frikkie came in for his puppy booster vaccinations with our nurse and was the bravest wee boy for his injections! πŸ’ͺ😎

This brown eyed cutie definitely left an impression on us and we look forward to seeing him in four weeks for his final shots! πŸŽ‰

⭐️ STAR PATIENT OF THE WEEK! ⭐️

Meet Frankie aka "Frankles, Frank & Beans, Frank the Tank or Fronk" 🀣

Frankie is owned by one our lovely vet nurse's Jo (so not bias at all! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰) and was the most patient "patient" of the day! It's always a pleasure having Frankles in with us, and I'm sure he was glad no nail clippers were involved! πŸ˜…πŸ€£

Cute cat alert! 😍

This is "Baby Bee" another one of our SPCA foster specials πŸ˜„ Baby Bee was in for desexing, microchipping and vaccinating today! πŸ’‰

Judging by his face I don't think he'll be rushing to come back here anytime soon, but we definitely enjoyed having him! πŸ₯°
