NOTE: We do not provide the desexing ourselves, we just publish information about deals so please contact the specific organisation directly if you have any questions.
If you know of any deals that we haven't listed here please pm us so we can update.
If you donβt see a desexing deal advertised for your area, we advise you to:
1) check the dedicated SPCA desexing website: www.spcadesexing.nz, and
2) phone all the area vets for a cost comparison, as vets do have different prices, and
3) contact your local SPCA centre to discuss desexing options in the area.
NZ WIDE
Humane Society of New Zealand will pay up to 50% of the cost of desexing a pet, one animal per household for those in genuine hardship. A Community Services card is required for this assistance. For an application form, please email [email protected]
KittyCat Fixers - provide financial assistance to help desex cats to those who genuinely cannot afford it around NZ. They use 150 vets around the country and pay full costs. You must complete an application form. If approved, you will be asked for a $70 upfront deposit per cat and you will then be issued with a voucher. You will then be asked to repay the rest of the cost of desexing, from as little as $1 per week, to help continue being able to get other pet cats desexed. This is considered a donation and is tax deductible: you can claim 33% back from IRD. NORTHLAND
SPCA Snip n Chip campaign for cat owners in Kaitaia, Kerikeri, WhangΔrei, and other areas in the Northland region - From 5 March to 30 June 2025 SPCA is working with local participating veterinary clinics to offer this service to cat owners who need a helping hand with desexing and microchipping. Vouchers help those in need get their cat desexed and microchipped for $30. Go to SPCA Desexing Campaign to check if vouchers are available in your area and to register for your voucher. If your cat is already desexed, you can use your voucher to have your cat microchipped and registered on the NZCAR database.
SPCA and Northland Vets Partnership Desexing Campaign β until 30 June 2025 - SPCA in conjunction with Bay of Islands Veterinary Services and Coast to Coast Cat Rescue to offer a FREE desexing service to CAT AND DOG owners in Hokianga, Kaikohe, Moerewa, Kawakawa, Kaeo, and Okaihau who need help with the cost of desexing and microchipping. Kerikeri Highway Vets SPCA Animal Desexing β Kerikeri Highway Vets in conjunction with SPCA New Zealand and local volunteer organisations, announced their desexing and vaccination programme for the entire Hokianga region out to SH1 (including Kaihohe out to Ohaeawai and Okaihau from 1 November 2022. NOTE: To be eligible for this campaign, you need to be on a low income and unable to pay for your animals to be desexed. This offer is still available as of date of this roundup. Cats and Dogs will be picked up from central locations by volunteers, delivered to Kerikeri Highway Vets for free desexing and vaccinations, and then returned to owners at the pickup location. Customers can also drop their animals off directly if they wish to. Any resident in the Hokianga region who is on a low income is eligible. For bookings please call 09 407 1195
Whangarei - Forgotten Felines Foundation has a Community Partnership Program that helps with providing carriers and transport for desexing, pre and post operation holds and in-home microchipping. From time to time, they receive funding for desexing cats in the Whangarei area. Mog and Dog Desexing Clinic Whangarei in partnership with SPCA New Zealand and Kainga Ora β are offering 200 free cat and 200 free dog desexing bookings for cats and dogs of Kainga Ora home residents in Whangarei. Please contact your housing support manager to get your pets booked in asap.
The Best Dog Trust (formerly Ruakaka Dog Rescue) β works with the community to desex and support dogs across the WhangΔrei and Kaipara region. The Community Dog Desexing Program is currently free thanks to funding from generous funders and supporters, and includes a microchip. Available only for dog owners in the Whangarei and Kaipara districts who are CSC cardholders or in genuine financial hardship. There are other terms and conditions. GREAT BARRIER ISLAND
Cat owners who live on this island are offered free desexing and microchipping of their cats, as part of an initiative by Auckland Council and Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board to promote responsible cat ownership. Mahurangi East Peninsula - Restore Rodney East is has secured funding for free cat desexing in conjunction with their partner clinic Coast Pet Care in Silverdale. EMAIL them at [email protected] with your name address and phone number to find out more. Priority will be given to cats and owners living on the Mahurangi East Peninsula. NOTE: this initiative has been going on for some time, please check with them that they are still offering this.
Ongoing β Coast Pet Care in Silverdale (formerly CatsnCare) offers a $50 desex and microchip special for cats at the new, high-spec Community Vet Clinic in Silverdale. Lynfield Vets in Mt Roskill offer year-round reduced prices for desexing. Cat neuter (male) $65. Cat spay (female) $95. Dog castration (male) under 20kg $200, 20-40kg $300, over 40kg $400. Dog spey (female) under 20kg $250, 20-40kg $350, over 40kg $450. Rabbit spey (female) $250. Rabbit castration (male) $190. You do not need a Community Services Card for this. WAIKATO
New Lives Animal Rescue has reinstated their subsidised cat desexing scheme. They have teamed up with CareVets Hamilton and CareVets Horsham Downs to provide subsidised cat desexing for people living in the following Council areas: Waikato (eg Huntly and Ngaeuawahia); Hamilton; Matamata-Piako (eg Matamata and Morrinsville); Waipa (eg Cambridge, Te Awamutu); and Otorahanga. You must contribute $50 towards the cost of desexing, microchipping and registering your cat on the NZ Companion Cat Register, and they will cover the rest of the cost at one of these participating vet clinics. PAWS β thanks to a grant from Pub Charity, Pet Animal Welfare Shops (PAWS) is able to offer free desexing through South Waikato Vets. This is limited to 2 cats per household and a Community Services Card is essential. To book, please phone South Waikato Vets during their opening hours. Limited spaces and subject to funding still being available.
Waikato District Council β has a PUP Fund programme to help you desex your dog β pay only $80 and theyβll cover the rest. Dogs must live in the Waikato District Council area, owner must have a Community Services Card or Gold Card, and you must use one of their vet clinics β they will book the vet appointment for you. Desex a Dog β From time to time, they receive funding for their dog desexing offers. If you genuinely need help and are in the Hamilton area, please private message their page to check on availability. There will be a fee involved: this year the minimum donation was $100 for this service, this may have changed, they will provide the details.
Tokoroa Desexing Assistance β SPCA is working with local vets in Tokoroa to offer desexing to assist cat owners who cannot afford to get their companion animal desexed. Cat owners in Tokoroa who need assistance with desexing should email [email protected] and the team at SPCA Tokoroa will be able to discuss next steps with you.
Te Aroha and surrounding district β Fur Get Me Not Op Shop may be able to offer some help with desexing for those in genuine need. You will need to go and see them at 27 Kenrick Street and show that you are a committed pet owner and they MAY be able to help towards the vet bill. Please note: this is a small charity and funds are limited, and very dependent on proceeds from the op shop.
Animal Care Turangi β from time to time, gets limited funding for desexing cats. No current desexing deals. At the moment, they are in urgent need of volunteers to keep their shelter running β if you live in Turangi and have an hour to spare every week or every fortnight, please contact them through their page.
Waikato Animal Outreach Trust β Have in the past been able to assist with discounted dog desexing but currently we have not been advised of any deals. Please email [email protected] if you need help, as they may be able to advise on low cost desexing options.

Kawerau District - KTown Community Animal Welfare Society (KTown CAW) may be able to help the Kawerau-based community with desexing stray and pet animals, when funding is available. Marlborough Four Paws β offer year-round ongoing assistance with discounted dog desexing. This is available to those with Community Services cards but also dog owners who would otherwise GENUINELY struggle to pay to get their dog desexed. Not available to purebred/designer dogs where the owners have paid to purchase the dog from a breeder. This offer is also available to dog owners in Kaikoura. Cats Protection League Canterbury β Feline Fix Program - $40-$65 male cat; $60-$100 female cat. CSC card holders. Microchipping is an extra cost (between $40-60 depending on vet). They work with 15 vets across Canterbury. If you donβt have a CSC card and cannot afford the normal cost to desex they may still be able to help. Mid Canterbury Animal Welfare Centre β is offering free tom cat neutering β please call Vetlife on 03 307 5195 to book your tomcat in. Limited spaces, offer has been running since 3rd February.
Christchurch β Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue runs a Community Desexing Programme to help those having financial hardship to get dogs desexed. They receive no funding for this programme and are able to offer this to the community by running fundraising events. You will need to apply first and if approved, you purchase a voucher from them for $100.
