As well as caring for your pets, we also care about our impact on the environment.🌱 In an effort to become more sustainable, we have installed a solar panel system! β˜€ We rely heavily on electricity to run our diagnostic and surgical equipment, computers, lighting, heating/cooling systems and much more. The solar panels will generate a large proportion of the electricity required to run the clinic each day.

Other eco-friendly measures we take on a daily basis include recycling (plastics, paper/cardboard, metals etc),♻️ minimising waste wherever possible and reducing our use of single-use plastics.

We believe our efforts, however small, all help towards a more sustainable future for us all. 🐾🌞🌳

This One Health Day, we urge you to consider the impact have on people, animals and the environment.

πŸ”₯ Since 2019, Fire and Emergency NZ has seen 676 fires caused by fireworks, 513 of which were vegetation fires.

πŸ§“πŸΌ Fireworks can be a source of anxiety for many people, especially those with PTSD, autism or other conditions that cause sensitivity to light and sound.

🐎 Every year, vets are called to see horses that have been badly injured from fireworks-related stress. Horses often panic from the loud noises and try to run through fences, or onto roads (endangering themselves and motorists).

πŸ• Cats and dogs often get anxious and try to flee when fireworks are going off. As a result, many pets are injured or go missing each year.

πŸ„ Large animals suffer from fear and stress related to fireworks.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Fireworks can have a huge impact on surrounding wildlife, who can't retreat indoors when they're scared.

🐈 Around Guy Fawkes Night, vets often see cats that have developed stress cystitis because of the noise.

UPDATE - Lilac is now on trial at a new potential home.

NEW HOME NEEDED. Lilac is a lonely bunny.

Having lost his brother, he needs a new companion or group of friends. He would prefer a home that has experience with bunnies, and has large cages or safe free ranging.

Lilac is a neutered purebred seal point mini lop. He is 2 years old, loves an ear rub, crazy full body zoomies, and eating his weight in his favorites greens, puha and parsley.

Lilac is free to the right home. He prefers a pat and being hand fed rather than being picked up. He is very tidy, and always toilets in one area only.

Please contact the clinic if you would like Lilac to join your family. πŸ°πŸ‡

Yesterday a kind member of the public brought a very special patient to see us - a little blue penguin! 🐧❀️ This little cutie was suffering from neurological symptoms and exhaustion. After some supportive care from our vet Ellie and the nurses, he/she was transferred to Massey University’s Wildbase hospital in Palmerston North for specialist care. We all have our fingers crossed that this special little bird will recover🀞.
Below is some great information about what to do if you find an unwell seabird. Plus more photos in the comments. πŸ₯°

Unfortunately we have had a deceased cat bought into the clinic. She is a female cameo and white cat (light ginger) no microchip. Young to middle aged and likely passed in the last 1-3 days. She was found on Puflett Rd near the Keirunga gardens entrance. Please ring the clinic on 8778156 if she is yours. πŸ’”πŸ˜’

UPDATE…we’re very happy that Fred & Bob now have an amazing home together πŸ₯°

Please share so we can find these deserving boys a home asap! πŸ™ Fred and Bob are in desperate need of more space and a family to call their own ❀️. They are great little cats who are very affectionate when they get to know you. If you have space at your place for these lovely boys, please come and meet them! 😻😻 They are approx 7 months old and have been de-sexed, flea/worm treated, vaccinated and microchipped. Trial-basis adoption is also an option.
Having owned a black cat myself, I may be a little biased, but I think black cats are pretty special! πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬›β€οΈπŸ₯°

Guinea Pigs in need of a new home - Posting on behalf.
Please phone 027 481 0440 if you are able to give these two cuties a home.

Their names are Peanut and Jelly. My daughter bought them in February 2023, they were supposed to be babies but looked the size of adults. She was told they were both spayed females. We have had no babies so I know at least one of that information is correct.

I'm happy for the cage to go with the guinea pigs, it is homemade and currently lifted off the ground as the area where they are housed floods - another reason why I need them to be rehomed. I believe animals should be able to at least eat and feel the grass under them.

Cage details: Length - 179cm, width -105cm (with roof overhang 130cm), height - front of cage 79cm, back of cage 65cm

READY FOR ADOPTION SOON πŸ˜»πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬›
These 3 VERY handsome young boys will soon be ready to go to new homes.
Rescued as strays, they were initially pretty shy and nervous. We are spending a lot of time slowly building their confidence and gaining their trust. Everyday they reach new milestones …eating from our hands, coming out for pats, enjoying head scratches, playing and even purring. They haven’t been with us for long, but we are already seeing great progress.
They may take a little while to fully settle into a new environment, and will require patience and kindness.
If you think you may be able to offer one of these handsome chaps a home, please contact the clinic. The adoption cost is only $90. This goes towards their neutering, initial flea/worm treatment, first vaccination and microchipping.
