Zorro styling his own hair this morning
Merry Christmas š from Zorro who is enjoying some Christmas carrots this morning which must look really good as Milo just had to steal some š
So we had a busy weekend last weekend, we went along and did the morning sessions in Maree McKateerās clinic working on exercises that help create calmness and balance. Zorro was nervous but also had some good calm moments and we came away with some good ideas, didnāt get any pics at the clinic but here we are working on what we learned at home. I think weāve hit the teenage stage so to speak where the hormones are kicking in and heās not sure what to do with himself yet but also being away from home which isnāt something we have gotten to do very often at this stage made for an interesting learning experience and great to be around a small group of lovely people while we are out and about trying to create as positive a learning experience as possible. Also really great that they allowed me to bring him along š
Zorro happily mowing the roundabout
I think we are all getting a bit over the wind šØ
We had a lovely Inhand lesson yesterday which was held by the Taranaki Working Equitation group. Zorro was a bit nervous but got more relaxed as time went by and I think he did really well overall especially considering we havenāt done much with the weather etc beforehand and also with this only being the second time weāve gone anywhere and the first being a few months ago now. The focus for the lesson was to get the young horses used to the obstacles and confident/relaxed. Would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about giving it a go.
Havenāt done anything for awhile again but today did a little bit with some obstacles and also asked him to back on the float which he remembered straight away, such a clever boy. Also when I give him treats at the end it reminds me of the line from the the movie āShow me the money!ā Hahaha

Havenāt done much lately as itās a busy time of year here but did give Zorro a brush this evening, was a bit tricky to get a good photo as the light was fading quickly, but definitely seeing more grey coming through now. Had a go at measuring with Eliseās help, probably not overly accurate lol but came out at 158cm. Also Milo the puppy decided to make good use of the cover sitting on the ground lol
Bringing the boys up by riding Regalo and leading Zorro as they are grazing a bit further away at the moment and I canāt be bothered walking lol
This boy certainly knows how to entertain himself!
Zorro modeling his new cover yesterday which will be keeping him cosy now as the rain š§ļø is coming down. Moved up to a 4 ft 9.
Giving the boys a brush and managed to start a mutual grooming session š
Turned Zorro loose in the arena while I did some stuff with Regalo, so he decided to have a good run around, horses feeling a bit fresh seems to be a theme today š P.S note to self, do not leave Regaloās bridle hanging on the fence while Zorro is around as he will find it and it will end up in his mouth lol
I put some pool noodles up today, he wasnāt too sure about them, thought he better see if he can chew on them lol
Another play with the float today, backing on from a bit further away, such a good boy!
Zorro learning to back onto the float. This is just the second day weāve done this (and filmed the second time doing it today) and the first was a little while ago now.
Apparently Iām sitting over the good grass š
Zorro having a good Zoom yesterday just before moving them to the new paddock (had already moved Reno so probably the reason for the excitement) makes some pretty tight turns at times! After he got that out of his system he was quite patient and went back to eating while I took Regalo and did a few things before going back to get him.
Having a go with Zorro at liberty after milking this evening, have practiced this with the halter first ofcourse. seems Iām having trouble getting good camera people lately though š
Zorro while waiting for me to bring his breakfast and move the fence. entertaining himself in the meantime.
Took Zorro to the show at Stratford this morning and did the Recreational horse Inhand section, was a bit of a last minute thing and was also milking this morning so we werenāt really āturned outā but thought it was a really good experience for him, he was a bit distracted at times which is fair enough but settled well and was really good overall, so super happy š
Yesterday I was playing with Regalo a little and had Zorro joining in, he really likes to be a part of whatās going on. Thought Iād try and get a bit on video today as I thought it was really cool. We really havenāt done training on this, I think he just likes being involved. P.S think my daughter had the phone the wrong way lol
A little bit of obstacles today too.
Bought a new cover for winter which arrived today so we tried it on, blue for the boy, maybe should have bought a size bigger though as looks like he might grow out of that pretty quickly.
So Iāve been trying to do a little something regularly with Zorro lately, whether itās going for a little walk or looking at some obstacles. He has started waiting at the gate, I give them a new break of grass down the other end but he will often still wait at the gate we usually go out of. If I go off and do other things heāll go and graze after awhile but walk back up as soon as he sees me coming. I think itās safe to say heās enjoying his little outings.

Had a quick little practice loading onto the float since itās out before going for our walk. Zorro was mostly interested in chewing everything at the front lol.
