Northland Veterinary Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Companion Animal Vet to join our well established practice.

Northland Veterinary Group is a mixed practice, multi-clinic environment that services the whole of the greater Whangarei district. You will have a varied and interesting case load. We are Best Practice accredited. The practice is well equipped including digital x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray, fluid pumps and IDDEX.
About the role:
As a respected member of our friendly team, you will have the opportunity to develop a close working relationship with our loyal clients and their small friends, whilst being encouraged to work up cases and take them through from initial presentation to resolution. Each day you will be supported and mentored through an interesting mix of consulting, treatment, and surgical responsibilities.
This is a permanent position with approximately 1:6 afterhours roster
(CA only) with days off after a weekend worked. Full or part-time applicants will be considered.
We value CPD and will support attendance at CPD that is relevant to the needs of the practice.

Whangarei (NZ) is a rapidly growing area where you can enjoy the café, art and culture scene. About us:

Northland Vet Group is a busy, mixed-animal practice servicing the Whangarei district from our three, well equipped and best practice accredited clinics.

Our friendly and valued team of Veterinarians and Nurses contribute a variety of skill sets, experience and a ‘can do’ attitude and bring a variety of expertise to our table. As a team our motivation is to ensure the absolute best in patient care and gold standard practice. We are excited to welcome on board an experienced Veterinary Nurse with similar attributes.

The role offers many opportunities and will open doors into areas of your personal, and nursing skills that you may have never considered before these include;

A consulting Nurse programme
Large animal technician work
Working alongside excellent in-house diagnostic equipment (IDEXX)
In-house ultrasonography
Gold standard dental X-ray, with our nurses actively involved in dental prophylaxis.
An active role in clinical areas such as; blood draws, catheter placement, radiography, intubation, scrubbing in for surgical procedures, Orthopaedic surgical nursing.

About the role:

We are seeking a qualified (Diploma level or higher) veterinary nurse with at least 12 months of clinical experience post-graduation to fulfil a part time position, approximately 3 days. This role offers some flexibility around hours of work, and we therefore welcome any suitable candidates apply for a discussion. Please note, you will need to be willing and able to work weekends and on call within our rotating roster.

Remuneration is competitive and will be reflected by the successful candidates experience and skill set.

Skills and experience:

This role requires the successful candidate to be competent in patient restraint and animal behaviour, alongside proven experience (minimum 12 months) within clinical nursing such as; anaesthesia monitoring, blood sampling/handling, assisting with x-rays and general nursing duties.

The successful candidate will;

Exert excellent professional etiquette
Be passionate about excellent patient care

Advice from the NZ Veterinary Association:

The impact of Cyclone Gabrielle has left many farms in the upper North Island without power or with flooding and infrastructure damage.

It is likely that many cows will not be milked for some days to come. Farmers will be considering their options this late in the season and may look to dry off some cows early. Some herds will be in later lactation but the summer has been favourable, so milk production has generally held up.

Dairy NZ research has shown that mid-lactation herds can tolerate delays of up to a week and, with careful handling, they can return to full or near-full milk production.
If milkings are missed for up to a week, then cows should recover with the exception of very low producing cows (
