The Spring Calving Season is underway...
And production at SF HQ is ramping up for an increased number of freshly made batches of our calf starter, Supa 20.

We are with you every step of the way. The back-to-back cold and early winter mornings, the daily rounds, the highs and lows of the hours spent in the calf sheds.

From day one, give your calves access to fresh and quality meal.

While the calves will only eat very little, the important thing is to introduce and encourage them to eat solid feed.

A few fresh handfuls daily for the first few days will be sufficient, until you notice their consumption increasing.

Winter Feeding.

Feeding horses in winter requires special attention to ensure they stay in tip top condition.

Here's 3 top tips to consider...

🌾Increased Forage | Horses generate heat through digesting fiber, so provide more hay or forage during winter.
🌽Supplementary Feed | Depending on their workload and condition, horses may need additional feed.
🐎Exercise | Despite the cold, horses still need regular exercise to maintain muscle tone and overall health.

Reaping the harvest.

We are a good chunk of the way through harvesting the maize crops that have been grown on pockets of land around the Far North.

These crops are trucked into our depot, dried, screened and then put into our storage, to be used as a base to the products in our extensive range.

We call it keeping it local.

The Fall Armyworm continues to present us with a challenge, but after a couple years of trial and error, we think we have determined a way to minimise the damage they can cause.

From maize-growing practices that still remain today, to working with our beef cattle on our hill farms, from sunrise to sunset, every moment holds a lesson in patience, resilience, and gratitude.

Just like that,another maize season is drawing to a close as the harvest begins to roll into SF HQ.

We have ridden the rollercoaster ride of every maize season since the 1980s. And will continue to do so, to bring you premium quality NZ Grown Maize. Already, we are planning for next season, with field rotation, new gear and so on all coming into play.

The Autumn Calving Season is in full swing.

Come onsite with us at one of our local and loyal dairy farms, where the Autumn sun is shining and it's breakfast time in the calf pens.

As per usual, we are getting amongst it and rearing calves along side our Autumn Calvers, This allows us to stay on top of the game, trialling how our calf meals can pair with any new equipment or rearing methods to determine the most smooth and effective transition from purely milk fed to a fully functioning ruminant.
