This is what a 5āļø Wool Puppy looks like. When I say my sheep are friendly, this is what I am aiming for! This little girl was ewe-raised in the paddock (not a pet on a bottle!) and look at her š so snuggly! They arenāt ALL like this of course, some prefer their personal space a little more than Madeline here, but they all come running for treats and attention when I walk in the paddock.
Abomasal bloat is the leading cause of death for young bottle fed lambs. The best way to avoid it is to feed cold yoghurtised milk, in small frequent feeds.
Itās easy and it actually saves time, making the day to day feeds easier!
Guess who's going to be at the Waihi A&P Show ? The Wool Puppies performance team (which includes our Blacknose Valais boys, plus a special Babydoll or two)!
Most of our friendly Babydoll WoolPuppies are not weaned yet so the ewes and lambs have to stay home, but Chance our bottle-raised Babydoll lamb is now 10 weeks old and is busy learning tricks so he can join the big kids in the performance on the 18th November.
Don't miss it!
We love performing with our Wool Puppies and showing people how clever sheep really are! We show off our tricks, teach the audience about reward-based training and share about the different breeds and personalities on our team.
Gingernut has recovered well from her C-section and her lamb Hope was very happy to be outside in the paddock for the first time today! šØ SPROING!!
I know heās not technically a Wool Puppy but I thought youād enjoy this video of Baarnaby, my Blacknose Valais wether. Baarnaby lives with the Wool Puppy training flock.
I am doing my professional animal training certification this year (putting the letters / certificate behind the 20 years of actually doing the work!) and for one of our assignments we had to shape a new behaviour on another species. So hereās our early attempt at going around the cones āŗļø
We spent the morning bringing some new breeding ewes plus our purebred Babydoll ram, Basil, over from Bullswool Heritage Farm.
Basil is going to make beautiful babies with our girls over the next 5 weeks - looking forward to lots of lambs in August/September!
(Wool Puppies is a joint venture between Bex of Positively Together (thatās me) and Sue at @bullswoolheritagefarm. Doing it together means we can swap genetics and share our complimentary skill sets. It also means we have someone to brainstorm with and just ātalk sheepā all day long!)
Blossom (4 months old) has a new trick! What shall we call it??
Blossom is so keen on training, she has great potential as a trick sheep! This wee girl isnāt for sale, - her career will be as a Wool Puppies breeding ewe and also will be helping me run animal training workshops.
The Wool Puppies love skritchies
I canāt stop laughing at this video š
This is Paige leading the icebreaker name game at the start of one of our Junior Animal Trainers classes.
Dora the sheep has definite ideas about what Paige *should* be doing instead.
