The big day has come! ❤️ We are thrilled to have had 57,357 people sign the petition to on live exports by sea, and we were honoured to witness this being handed over to Labour MP Hon Damien O’Connor today at Parliament, by petitioner John Hellström.

Today we saw the power of our collective voices, speaking up for the animals 🙌 The rain couldn't dampen our spirits today, and it was wonderful to see so many people come along to show their support.

To everyone who took the time to sign and share the petition – thank you. By joining us in speaking up, we have shown the National-led coalition that New Zealanders will not remain silent while they plan to bring back this horrific practice.

We would also like to thank our team who worked tirelessly to help organise the petition alongside HUHANZ, SAFE, World Animal Protection New Zealand, Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa, Animals Aotearoa, End Live Export New Zealand, and Animal Save Aotearoa New Zealand. What an amazing result we have reached together!

Did you join us today at Parliament? Share your pics in the comments!

Do you remember Fitz? We shared this boy’s story a couple of weeks ago when he was in foster recovering from ear removal surgery. He has since developed what foster mum Jade calls “some pretty epic ear floofs!” We have to agree.

We were overwhelmed by the response to Fitz, with so many people sending him love, and lots asking about adopting him too! In a very happy ending for this darling, he has found his forever home…

Jade and her household’s existing fur residents – black cat Pirate and small dog Goose – all absolutely fell in love with Fitz. Initially so timid, they all helped him come out of his shell, and Fitz learnt to play, to cuddle, and has started exploring the outdoors. He’s becoming the curious, playful kitten he always deserved to be.

Seasoned foster carer Jade is no stranger to handing animals back to SPCA, but something was different with Fitz. “We bonded strongly from the start... although there would have been plenty of other loving homes out there for him, he really was home from day one,” she says.

Happy Fitz – and thank you to EVERYONE who sent love this boy’s way ❤️

Can you help us find a home for Rufus?

Rufus and Rosie are the last 2 out of a litter of 6 to find their forever homes, and Rosie is due to be picked up TOMORROW which will leave Rufus all by himself 😢

Rufus is a 12 week old mixed breed pup and will grow about medium sized. He is very playful and likes to collect all of his toys up in his bed, we have been working on basic manners and gaining confidence and he is doing SUPER well. Rufus is a bright little man and will make an amazing companion.

If you have been looking to add a loving pup to your family, please consider this little dude!

Wilma hit the jackpot the day she was adopted from our Wellington Centre! 🥰

This , her new family have told us how well she's settled in. "She's very playful. We introduced her to a paper bag last night, which she's pretty pumped about!" 😂

It seems Wilma has even found a fan in the older cat named Max who lives upstairs. "He takes ages to warm up to anyone, but he's come down to visit a few times, and Wilma is always keen to say hello."

"We're really grateful to have met Wilma, and that she was looked after by you before she came to us - as I'm sure that helped her grow into the lovely kitten she is!" ❤️

We never get tired of getting updates like these!

Hello Hutt Valley! 👋 The SPCA Mobile Desexing Clinic is officially here in Seaview, ready to continue desexing and microchipping cats and dogs, free of charge 🙏 We're fully booked, and looking forward to meeting you and your fur-friends!

Preventing cruelty to animals is at the very core of what we do, and desexing plays a huge role in this. By reducing the number of animals being born unwanted, we can help end the cycle of neglect ❤️ As always, koha donations are greatly appreciated from those who have booked, so that we can continue to fund initiatives like this in the future.

Did you know that New Zealand's ban on live exports by sea is under threat?

According to our survey, 63% of the New Zealand public aren't aware that the Government is planning to reverse our world-leading ban 😧 This would be a national embarrassment, and a huge step backwards for animal welfare in New Zealand.

Photographs taken on board live export ships show the horrific conditions these animals are forced to suffer through. Cramped spaces, standing in their own urine and faeces, many are subjected to extreme temperatures and suffer from heat stress.

There's less than three weeks left to sign the petition ❤️ Please speak up for the animals that can't speak for themselves by adding your name here: https://petitions.parliament.nz/79ff1ae2-f2e8-43c5-6c98-08dc33f5abe2

We would like to say a big Thank you to Evelyn and Ruby for their AMAZING fundraising efforts! These two girls along with the help from Saint Mary's school, put together a large food parcel and fundraised $500 for the animals here at the Masterton SPCA 😻

We are extremely grateful for people like Evelyn and Ruby, their passion for helping animals and supporting organizations like the SPCA is admirable. Thanks again to everyone involved 🥰

Do you have any old printer paper boxes no longer in use and not sure what to do with them? We desperately need them!
We would love to have any cardboard box lids, or trays that you may have! Alternatively, the cardboard trays from canned products or beverages would be useful too! These lids make PERFECT disposable litter trays for the over 100+ ill or injured kittens in our care 🐱
They are a great size and shape, and are a hygienic option for sick and vulnerable hospital animals. It's also a lovely way to give these products a second life before they get disposed of.
Please drop off any photocopy paper box lids to our Newtown centre - 140 Alexandra Road, Newtown.
Thank you!

Layla has been waiting to be adopted for over a year - 388 long days, to be exact 💔

Currently at our Wellington Centre, she was an amazing mum to her ten puppies, who have all found their forever homes. But this loving girl is still waiting!

Layla is goofy, sweet, energetic, and whip-smart, and needs an active home that will provide her with lots of enrichment (and a high fence!). If you’re looking for the perfect balance of zoomies and snuggle time, she just might be the girl for you.

Let’s get Layla home 💙 Meet her here: https://www.spca.nz/adopt/animal/578260/dog-layla-wellington

💙 Can you help us? 💙

As you all know, rescues all over New Zealand are full and struggling to keep on top of the amount of animals needing to find new homes.

It is no different here at the Masterton centre, and we are asking for your help! We have so many amazing dogs and puppies waiting for someone to take a chance and give them the loving home they deserve.

When you adopt through a rescue like the SPCA you aren't just helping 1 life but countless others by freeing up space for us to accept in more vulnerable and homeless animals.

We ask you to share this around so we can try find homes for all our lovely canines, and in turn, save another by giving them the temporary home they need before their forever comes along.

Photos are of everyone currently available for adoption at the Masterton SPCA, if you are interested in any of these beautiful dogs, please click the link and apply through our website.

Are you wanting to adopt a puppy but can't commit to a dog long term?
Do you want to be a part of a puppy pile like this one?!

We are in desperate need for more foster homes for puppies, from one day of age to six months of age, in both our Masterton and Wellington Teams.

If you have time, space and love to give, we'd love to receive your application. ❤
We give you all the materials you need and you provide the secure environment for them to grow until they're ready for adoption.

The puppies featured in this photo were fostered by our amazing fosterer carers, and have now been adopted. It's been so rewarding to see the pups grow and thrive before heading to their new homes, and you could be part of this journey!

Bingo is one tough cookie. This poor girl was brought into our Wellington Centre by a concerned member of the public, and her injuries were consistent with a dog attack 😢

Our team were quick to give her all of the medical treatment and love that she needed to get back on her feet, and it wasn't an easy journey ❤️ She went on to spend some much-needed time in foster care learning that humans aren't so scary - and we're thrilled to hear that she's now found her forever home!
