There is a little interesting 'bit' in this article that says 'Any horse that is suddenly stall-bound will undergo some decrease in bone mass and density even if they are not fitted with a cast.'. I struggle with the concept of box rest as horses are migratory. It is well known that 'Exercise can make bones stronger and help slow the rate of bone loss. '. Not forgetting muscle activation and mass.
Something to think about :)

While immobilizing a limb helps the primary injury heal, prolonged casting can be problematic, resulting in bone, joint, and soft-tissue degeneration.

Although Volatern Emugel might be nice for us and some use it on the horse it is VERY TOXIC to our cats and dogs. As little as just licking it from our skin.

Love it when science agrees with what the horses 'say'. Lucerne/alfalfa is so often what is 'said' by the horse for fiber.

Feeding alfalfa is an effective way to help reduce the occurrence of gastric ulcers in the glandular region of the stomach.
