Stop over for South Islander Riders on their way to HOY.
In a joint project with our equestrian neighbour's Grant Blackwell & Suz Bassett (Battle Hill Eventing folks), we were able to offer South Island riders in transit to HOY a place to stop overnight so drivers and horses could rest up after their Ferry trip.
Our Stable Venue facilities (kitchen. lounge area, toilets & showers), human accommodation, and horse yards & paddocks along with Suz & Grant's large paddock bordering our Stable Venue area, which they generously made available for parking, worked well.
Clive & Grant with help from local farmer Russell Williams put a double gate entry between our properties to make it easier for big trucks & floats to access the parking paddock from our Stable driveway.

You'd think Autumn had come early by the amount of leaves on the ground but the trees lost them as stressed from the lack of rain. Nice to have a couple of showers this week.

Our apologies to riders & coaches who have been using our SJ arena over the past several months as the SJ poles have been looking very tatty. Today with the help of our neighbour Emma Blackwell, and her wonder woman Mum Suz Bassett, we renewed the coloured tape on half the poles (5 sets in all) - so a good start. The SJ stands and the red brick wall will also be repainted over the next few weeks.
Looking forward to having jumps we are proud to have riders use.

Our XC is open 🥳 After several weeks of being closed due to persistent overnight rain, the last few days of sunny weather have dried out the XC Paddocks sufficently for riders to use the jumps.

Abby became proficient at the XC phase of Eventing in part because she was able to take her young horses over a variety of jumps and heights, including banks, water & ditches, on a regular basis on her XC Course at Dragon Equestrian. Now Abby is in the UK "living the dream" she wanted her XC Course to still be available for local riders to use whether it is for pleasure or more serious training especially of younger horses. We try to be open 7 days/week all year around although there are times when the weather means the XC paddocks are not safe for jumping so we have to close the XC.

Can you tell by the smiles that Mollie & Darcy had some fun on their ponies earlier this week on our XC course. Mollie is particularly proud of herself and her pony having jumped the Key Hole for the first time 🤩

We are open during the winter months, our Dressage & Show Jumping arenas can usually handle the rain but the Cross Country grounds can get wet and therefore soft at times. Any time you want to come just fb message us and we'll let you know if the XC grounds are ok to use 🙂

Nadine Francois is a former student of Nuno Oliveira, whom she trained with for a decade at Quinta do Brejo, Portugal.
Nadine continues to closely mirror his methods and is best described as a classical trainer.
Whether it be riding, in-hand or lunging work, Nadine's approach is to respect the horse and his balance through your position.
