**FULL NO MORE SPACES**
We're almost halfyway to our goal of des*xing 100 cats in the community. Let's fill as many of the next 50 spaces as we can before Christmas.
Do you need help getting yours des*xed? Thanks to some funding from the Companion Animals New Zealand Trust we have been able to launch a campaign to des*x 100 cats in the community at a reduced rate. We wouldn't be able to do this without their generosity or the support of Central Hutt Vet Clinic.
For just $30 we are able to offer des*xing and microchipping of owned cats in the Hutt Valley and Wainui. This is open to both male and female cats. To apply please fill in the form here
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeR6cEP7WAsjTN4VHC92oRt6KLmvBotboAhh7I651U2eWwBZw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Please note this offer is limited to 2 cats per household and due to capacity constraints there is an expected wait time of 2-8 weeks before the surgery date.
Please be aware that if your cat is pregnant the procedure will go ahead unless the vet has significant concerns.
If you'd like to support us with the program and the costs associated you can donate here https://givealittle.co.nz/org/for-the-love-of-cats-rescue
Every little bit counts and may enable us to extend the campaign beyond the initial 100 cats that we have planned.
Lets get ahead of the problem and des*x these cats before we end up with more unexpected/unwanted cats in our area

We have some very important news to share.
It's hard to know whether to pose this as a celebration of the work we have achieved or to apologise for not being able to do more.
With regret we must announce that as of the end of this year For the Love of Cats Rescue will cease to exist.
Being involved in the rescue and rehoming of cats from all sorts of backgrounds takes a lot of heart and soul. It also takes a lot of time and money. It really is all consuming and so it should be when lives are involved. But what this means is that we've all given up a lot of personal opportunities to make sure that we can do our best for the cats.
It's time for us to take some time for ourselves and reassess our priorities.
I believe the whole team who have been involved since our inception in late 2020 have done amazing work. We have des*xed and rehomed over 400 cats and kittens and by the end of the year will have des*xed and returned home around another 200 either free of charge or at a very low cost. None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the wonderful people who have chosen to give up their time to help us so a big thank you to them. And of course to all of our donors as none of this comes cheap.
For now we'll be focusing on rehoming the last few cats and kittens that we have in care and continuing with our discounted des*xing campaign.
While we'll always wish we could do more now is the time to focus on ourselves so there is the possibility we can come back to doing this important work in the future.
Thank you all so much for your support and understanding. -Sam

Special cats for adoption
We need your help to get our longer term residents and harder to home cats and kittens into their forever homes
Below is a short summary about each of them. They will be featured on our page individually over the next week or 2. They are all des*xed and microchipped.
Murphy and Toby
DMH tabby M, DSH tabby M 3-4 years old
With us for almost 2 years these boys have a very sweet bromance and must go together. Most active in the evenings when everyone else has gone to bed. Shy, do not like to be touched
Riley
DSH tabby F 3 years old
With us for almost as long as Murphy and Toby. Beautiful but does not want human interaction. Would make a great barn cat or condescending overlord to be admired from afar.
Mr Ginger
DSH ginger M 1.5years old
Huge solid ginger tabby boy. Does not like to be picked up but really likes a good firm headscratch once he gets to know you. Has a tiny meow for a fella of his size
Little miss grey
DSH grey F 7 months old
A petite little girl with the silkiest ultra short coat. Can be easily startled but is very curious and likes a pat.
Smokey
DSH smoke tabby M 9 months
This guy really wouldn't be hard to home. He's in your face over the top affectionate. But he has a chronic sneezing thing going on. More investigations are underway but we're looking for someone committed to following the vets recommendations to get him 100%. Initial vet costs will be covered.
The Twins
2x DSH tabby and white M, 9-12 months old
Recent arrivals these boys are full of character. They spend most of the day playing with each other or sleeping together. They're still warming up to people but if you go slowly they'll come and sit on the couch with you.
Please message us if you feel like you could give any of these wonderful cats a home. Trial adoptions of a minimum 3 weeks duration are available for all of them.
Aggie and Rex's sleeping arrangement for today
Sleepy little toes after some playtime.
Let's see your best, 'not spoilt' snaps of your cats and kittens.
For the Love of Cats Rescue is closed for intakes until further notice
As anyone in rescue understands it takes a lot to care for the cats and kittens we've been asked to help alongside promoting the rescue and making sure we have the funding and resources available to keep the doors open.
This past kitten season seems to have been longer than ever, we are still receiving requests to help young kittens and are struggling to re-home those already in our care.
All of this is leading us very close to burnout.
In order to keep the rescue open long term we have made the tough decision to stop all intakes and focus on rehoming the cats and kittens we currently have and on our community des*xing program.
This will hopefully give all of our team a chance to refocus and come back later this year refreshed.
You can help us out by:
*Considering adopting a shy kitten or older cat
*Donating money or goods (just because there are no intakes doesn't mean we won't still have ongoing costs for the cats currently in care)
*Encouraging friends, family and neighbours to des*x their cats
Thank you all for your support and understanding. This has been a really challenging decision for us but we do need to prioritise our people so that we can continue to help in the future
Let's see your cats putting your window sills to good use.
How do bonding cats help each other?
This fluffy tabby with her poofy tail was so anxious and nervous about house living and humans. She made friends with a timid but slightly more outgoing Tortie friend. Together they have become heater loving, lap warming snuggle bugs. There journey to being totally relaxed around humans is well underway but wont be complete till they've settled into their new adopted homes and had plenty of time to settle at their own speed. They will be a rewarding pair for any future adopter will to follow there lead.
Adoptions tomorrow morning.
Our kittens and cats spend their foster days with us in family homes. This helps develop their social skill from a very young age. These two kittens are too cute.

This young lady is working hard on being snuggly. She is very cautious around humans but coming out of her shell more everyday. Let's see all your once cautious, shy cats. Share your stories and encourage others to take the leap.
My cats certainly meows at me. Bless his meowler heart.
I can't believe we missed it!
We've been so busy running the rescue and focusing on the cats in our care that our charity registration anniversary slipped past without us noticing.
May 13th 2023 marked 2 years as a registered charity for us. In that time we've helped over 400 cats and kittens get des*xed and rehomed and many more get des*xed and returned back to their owners.
We want to thank all of our fosterers, volunteers, and supporters. Also a big thanks to the Wellington Animates Vetcare clinics, Central Hutt Vet Clinic, Wellington After Hours Vet Clinic, the Wellington SPCA, Royal Canin, New Zealand Companion Animals Trust and Hutt Mana Charitable Trust for the services and funding that they have provided. We wouldn't be here without the support from all of you.
We look forward to another year of getting cats off the streets and into homes and seeing the impact our community des*xing campaign has on the number of requests for help that we receive.

Daisy loves to interact with people. She can't wait to met her future family at adoption day. Until then her foster family and the T.V. will just have to do.
This little lady is enjoying the good stuff She's such a friendly playful kitty and is looking for her forever home. Ideally she'd be adopted along with her sister. They'll both be available to meet tomorrow at Vetcare Petone, please send us a message if you'd like to meet them
These two really want to go home with someone at adoptions tomorrow. They are practicing getting ready to be sneaky and slinking into your bag. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=680663077392833&id=100063474395204&mibextid=Nif5oz

**Adoption post** Murphy (fluffy one)and Toby are looking for their forever home. They are a bonded pair which means they have to go together. They are cats who are looking for either a lifestyle/rural property to be barn cats or a quiet home where they are given the chance to explore and trust at their pace. They like to watch the sunset from the catio and sleep in the sunshine. Murphy loves to bop your toes if you wriggle them under the blankets on the bed. Toby is Murphy's shadow so wherever Murphy is Toby won’t be far behind. In time they likely will allow more human interaction but that will be on their terms. They are currently not able to be picked up or held. They are desexed and microchiped. If you think you could offer Murphy and Toby a place of their own please message us. Due to their shy nature they will not be available for a meet and greet prior to adoption but instead will be able to be taken out on trial with the adoption to be formalized at a later date.
We're down at Neko Ngeru Cat Cafe for adoptions today. There are still appointments left to meet the kittens. Send us a message if you'd like to meet them.
Do you need this handsome cat in your life? Hughie is looking for his forever home and will be available to meet at Neko Ngeru Cat Cafe this weekend. This December we have some special cats looking for a home for Christmas. Their adoption fees have been partially covered by some generous sponsors and they come with bonus take home goodies to help them settle in. To help us spread the word everyone who likes this post goes in the draw to win prize. Today's prize is a premium cat food sampler. Our next cat looking for his forever home is Hughie. He is estimated to be around 1 and a half years old. Hughie is a quiet boy who will need some time to get to know you first but once he does he'll be your best buddy. He can be quite vocal in the evenings when he thinks it's dinner time. He really is the sweetest fella but needs someone who is willing to go slow and put in the time to build trust. He purrs up a storm when you get the right spot for the scratches. He will he desexed, microchipped and registered, vaccinated and will be current with his flea and worm treatments at the time of adoption. His adoption fee is $50. If you think you've got the right home for him please message us.
