Yesterday afternoon was very scary for us. We walked into the front porch to find that Polo was seizing, twitching and was soaked on one side with drool and p*e.

Polo started to lose feeling in the back feet at the start to mid November. This started to make him curl his toes as he walked but he was still getting food and water and still very happy. We knew putting him down was the option but when we did it was just a matter of time.

With his brother Mack he lost feeling in his feet and then his legs followed quickly after so we expected the same for Polo. Polo was showing us that he could make it until Christmas. Last weekend that idea changed.

We knew it would be this week or next that we would have to say goodbye to him but we took it day by day. Sunday we decided that we would have him put to sleep on Thursday. But by Monday night it was seeming like Tuesday night would be the best option. Then we come to Tuesday afternoon. It was emotional and scary. He still bruxed and boggled through the pain when we were patting and kissing him. We managed to get an emergency appointment at our cats vet since our regular vet for the mice and rats couldn’t get him in until 5.

We thought he was going to pass away in our arms or even in the car on the way to the vet. But just after 4pm yesterday the vets at Pet Vet Lower Hutt, took the utmost care of him and helped him cross over the rainbow bridge.

Polo was always the sweetest boy anyone could ask for. We’re glad to have had some since he was a baby and 2yrs 4months isn’t too bad for the old fella. Now we just have to watch Arnott and CJ and make sure they grieve well.

Love you forever Polo Mint, rest easy with Mack and the others. 💕🐀

Sorry we’ve been a bit quiet over here! We’re currently busy with travel, wedding planning and unfortunately the passing of some of our pets. However! Francesca, Violet and August’s babies are over a month old now!

Below are the pics attached with who is staying with us and who is up for adoption. If you are interested in any please flick us a message unless you have already. They will be ready to go to their new homes middle of December or closer to Christmas!

They have names currently. This is just so we know who is who and their names can be changed once adopted! We’ve decided that they are our Crystal litter! Because they’re our little gems 💎

Last Tuesday (19th Nov) we went into the front porch and had a very very sad discovery. August (one of our first litters - the A team) had passed away in his cage. We believe this was due to depression. His brother Alfie didn’t want him back in the cage that they had shared for over a year. Ace was completely fine with August it was just Alfie (he’s always been a drama queen)

We have tried everything to make things work between them and August seemed okay by himself. We changed his cage and added things to it that peaked his interested. However it just couldn’t cut it. We feel so horrible about this and we’re so upset that he’s now gone. This leaves Violet as a solo mum to 8 babies. We’re so happy to have August offspring and love that we can see him within this litter.

Love you forever August, miss you lots 🐭💕xx

Last night we had a very sad discovery. One of our Bridgerton girls and a new mum had passed away peacefully. We have no idea what happened to her but her children and Violet had buried her where she passed (a common thing mice do) Francesca had just had 6 babies and have raised them well.

We’re so glad that we have her offspring and that we had her for the time we did. She was such a snuggly girl and also enjoyed being independent and doing her own thing. She was our little fluffy sweetheart and she will be forever missed by us, her sisters and her children. Love you Francesca 🐭💕

We had a very sad weekend last week. On Saturday Kate was happy and healthy but as you know mice and rats turn very quickly.
By Saturday night, Kate had taken a turn and we knew she wouldn’t make it until the morning.

We went to the after hours vet and we had her put to sleep, the vet agreed with us that she wouldn’t make it to the morning.

Kate had a tumour on her leg that we had been watching and we think it all finally caught up to her. We miss you Kate, thank you for being the most sensible mouse we have had in a long time. You were always looking after the others for it and loved cuddling with them. Love you always Kate x 🐭💕

Look how much the babies have grown! Violets 2 are 10 days old today so we will be getting to see their eyes open soon! Francesca’s 6 are 7 days old today! They are all doing so well! Both girls are taking turns in parenting which is great, even though Violet seems to be doing most of the work 😂.

Violet and Francesca had their babies last week! We have 8 very healthy and happy babies. Violet had 2 and Francesca had 6! Violet has two dark coloured babies with some white patches and it looks like Francesca is having a mixture. We’re so happy with them and how their mother instincts kicked in. We will keep you guys updated with more baby news. 🐭

We have been keeping a little secret (more so we haven’t had the chance to tell you guys yet) butttt we have paired up August from our first litter with two of our bridgerton girlies!

Francesca and Violet have enjoyed their time hanging out with August and have both wound up pregnant! These girls are actually due this week too.

We think Francesca will have a small litter whereas Violet is going to have a huge litter! We are so excited to keep you guys updated with pictures of them and their babies. 🐭💕

Last night we found that Briar had passed away. Almost a week since her best friend Clover passed. Briar however, was slowly on her way out so it wasn’t a massive surprise. She had an abscess in her ear so we have been expressing it, saline and creamed it. (This did give her a very funny Emo fringe when she would clean herself and move the cream around) She was loosing feeling in her back legs as well. Safe to say her age was showing. We are so happy that we had Briar in our life. She was a great aunty to the A team, amazing with newbies coming in (that was after a couple of icky feeling squeaks). We will miss you B-Ball, our little emo, love you always. 💕🐭

This morning we found that Clover had passed away overnight. She was the head of the girls cage and a mum to 4 babies. We are so glad to have 3/4 of her offspring.

She was the best head of the cage since Lottie’s and Pascal themselves. She always checked the food and water first. Checked out what we were doing in the cage so her girls were protected. She stayed with the sick and passing. She overall was such an amazing mouse to have.

We love and miss you so much Mama Clova, Clover Rover, Clover. 🍀 🐭💕

We had a feeling it would happen this week or the next but we were hoping to put her down. Maisie passed away peacefully overnight with her sisters by her side. Maisie started to get ovarian cysts so we knew she didn’t have much time left. She’s now with her sister Blake and we think she’ll finally have some peace and quiet away from her sisters 😂 love you forever Mais 💕 Thanks for being such a great older sister to the young ones. 🐭

Unfortunately, age finally caught up with our sweet boy Franklin, at 2yrs 5months. (He has been the eldest mouse in our gang for a wee bit now) For the past year he had a tumour on his behind that we thought would be the first thing to take him out. Clearly it wasn’t going to stop him. He passed away peacefully in our hands as we cried and encouraged him to go over the rainbow bridge. We’re so happy to have had him in our lives as he was one of the best male mice we’ve ever had. Never made a mess of his food or water bowl and he was a very clean boy with his cage. We love you so much Franklin, Franky Lin, Mr Lin. Miss you so much.

Introducing two new family members! Meet Prince and Remy! (Prince is a wild rat brown and Remy is Black and white)

These two boys needed to be adopted out as their original owner’s children lost interest in them and she would rather they went to a home that had the time and love for them. We were happy to take them and have had these handsome guys for two weeks now.

The cool thing about them is that they have a disability/mutation. These boy’s front paws were formed funny. Some are shorter, some are crossed over and some have no nails at all.

Luckily this doesn’t stop them from being cheeky boys with great climbing strength 😂 We’re very happy to have them. Welcome home boys, we love you so much 🐀💕

Introducing our two newest girls. Meet Asha (brown and white) and Willow (white). We were called by the SPCA a week after we came up to adopted a baby budgie. We saw these two girls and they said if we are interested that we could have our name down to adopt them when they were out of quarantine. We said 100% (this was the week before putting Bug and Eloise down)

We knew we didn’t want to introduce these girls to Bug, Freya, Luca and Oakley until they were ready after we put Bug down. They needed time to grieve. They’ve now met twice and I think surprisingly it’s what the girls needed. They love them and accepted them the second they saw them. They haven’t moved in with the big girls yet but in a week or two they will.

We will be making a post about the horrific backstory that these babies came with. That aside, Welcome home Asha and Willow. 🐀🐀

On Wednesday, not only did we have one of our mice put to sleep (Eloise) but we also had to say goodbye to our very last OG rat. After 3-3.5 years of life, Bug was put to rest. We adopted her and her sister, Sprout, from HUHA. Our sweet girls were saved from science (animal testing). We had heard that some people had very aggressive rats from this programme but we must have been the luckiest when we got Bug and Sprout. Yes we had nips and light blood drawing bites but nothing serious. Even though Bug lost her boyfriend, Cook, and her sister she became an older sister to Oakley, Freya and Luca. Bug loved these girls so much and they loved her. It’s going to be very tough not having our Lady Bug out for cuddles, plays and TikTok time and we know the girls are missing her too. We are so grateful to have had such a sweet little s**t like Bug in our life. Hopefully we will be able to adopt more rats and even mice saved from science as Bug and Sprout had shown us all the love they desperately so had to offer. You will be forever missed Bug. Love you always and forever Buggy, Bugaroni, Buggybear, our sweet Lady Bug. 🐀💕

On Wednesday we had to say goodbye to one of our Bridgerton girls. Eloise had grown a hard lump in her tummy. First it felt like it could be constipation but as the days went by it became clear it was either a cancerous lump or an ovarian cyst. She was closing her eyes and was just wanting to be cuddled and warmed. Even though we tried all we could it just wasn’t fair to let her suffer. We wish we had more time with her and could see her become a mum, however, life happens. We will miss you Eloise. Love you always Elowsee 🐭💕

I find these girls every morning in the biggest cuddle pile. It’s so sweet to see how much they all love each other. It’s also usually the same ones curled up on the bottom getting the most warmth 😂 🐭
