Yesterday afternoon was very scary for us. We walked into the front porch to find that Polo was seizing, twitching and was soaked on one side with drool and p*e.
Polo started to lose feeling in the back feet at the start to mid November. This started to make him curl his toes as he walked but he was still getting food and water and still very happy. We knew putting him down was the option but when we did it was just a matter of time.
With his brother Mack he lost feeling in his feet and then his legs followed quickly after so we expected the same for Polo. Polo was showing us that he could make it until Christmas. Last weekend that idea changed.
We knew it would be this week or next that we would have to say goodbye to him but we took it day by day. Sunday we decided that we would have him put to sleep on Thursday. But by Monday night it was seeming like Tuesday night would be the best option. Then we come to Tuesday afternoon. It was emotional and scary. He still bruxed and boggled through the pain when we were patting and kissing him. We managed to get an emergency appointment at our cats vet since our regular vet for the mice and rats couldn’t get him in until 5.
We thought he was going to pass away in our arms or even in the car on the way to the vet. But just after 4pm yesterday the vets at Pet Vet Lower Hutt, took the utmost care of him and helped him cross over the rainbow bridge.
Polo was always the sweetest boy anyone could ask for. We’re glad to have had some since he was a baby and 2yrs 4months isn’t too bad for the old fella. Now we just have to watch Arnott and CJ and make sure they grieve well.
Love you forever Polo Mint, rest easy with Mack and the others. 💕🐀
