Is your pet scratching more than usual? You might have a flea infestation at home! Don't worry - we've got you covered with some handy tips on how to tackle it.

Remember, the adult fleas you see are just the tip of the iceberg. Flea eggs, larvae, and pupae make up the other 95% of an infestation.

Start by treating all your pets with a quality flea treatment like Advantage™, Advocate™, or Seresto™. Don't forget to wash bedding in hot water and vacuum regularly.

Your garden can be a hotspot for fleas as well, so keep it tidy and limit areas where pets and wildlife can leave flea eggs.

Want to know more? Check out our full article here: https://mypetandi.elanco.com/nz/parasites/fleas/how-to-remove-fleas-from-your-home

And remember to always talk to your vet clinic to see what flea treatment is right for your pets.

Is your feline friend scratching more than usual? 🐾 While fleas are often the first suspect, it's possible that lice could be causing your cat's discomfort.

Though it's uncommon, cats can get lice - typically from another infected cat or unsanitary grooming tools. Unlike fleas, lice are more active in winter and they attach themselves to strands of hair, feeding on dead skin and skin debris.

Signs of lice on cats can include excessive itching, a dull or dry coat, and hair loss, especially around the ears, neck, shoulders and bottom.

The good news is, lice are species-specific, meaning they can't spread from your cat to you or your dog. However, other cats in your home could be at risk.

If you suspect your cat has lice, it's important to talk with your vet about the best treatment. Regular grooming, washing your cat's belongings, and treating other cats in your household can also help manage and prevent lice infestations.

Did you know fleas can be a year-round nuisance in New Zealand? These resilient critters can survive both outdoors and indoors, regardless of the season, thanks to their ability to withstand low temperatures.

With New Zealand's mild winters and the use of indoor heating, fleas can find a cozy home in our houses year-round. In fact, our warm interiors during the colder months can actually speed up flea breeding, making an infestation more likely.

That's why it's important to keep up with flea treatments for your pets, even in winter! ❄️

Talk to your vet clinic for the best flea treatment for your pet.

Remember, prevention is best!

It’s another Myth Monday! 🐾 Today, we're busting a common myth about pet health.

Myth: "My pet isn’t sick, so it can’t have worms." 🐛

Fact: Your furry friend doesn't have to show signs of illness to be carrying and transmitting worm infections. These silent invaders can pose a risk to other animals and even humans in your household without you noticing any symptoms in your pet.

Remember, prevention is the best medicine! 🩺 Regular de-worming treatments can help keep your pet, and your family, safe from these pesky parasites.

Not sure which de-worming treatment is right for your pet? Your vet clinic can provide expert advice tailored to your pet's needs.

Let's keep our pets and our homes worm-free! 🏡

Did you know that kittens are more vulnerable to worms and other parasites than adult cats? These tiny creatures can carry and spread worms without showing any visible signs of illness, which is why regular de-worming is so crucial.

From roundworms to tapeworms and even lungworms, there are several types of parasites that can infect your kitten. These worms can cause a range of health issues, from weight loss and vomiting to stunted growth and severe infections.

Starting worming treatments early, from 2-8 weeks of age, is recommended for preventing these issues. Products like Drontal™ Allwormer for Cats 4kg can be used from 4 weeks of age or Milbemax™ Tablets for Small Cats from 6 weeks of age. Once your kitten reaches 9 weeks, they can start on monthly Advocate™ treatments to control intestinal worms, fleas, and lungworms.

Check out this comprehensive article about worming and kittens to learn more about the types of worms, signs of infection, and treatment options.

Fleas are one of the most common health issues pet owners deal with and unfortunately, they’re a year-round problem; as it takes very low temperatures to kill fleas about -1°C for 5 days, which means they can survive in most parts of New Zealand all year round, even in winter! Yuck!

Break the flea lifecycle in your home by treating ALL your pets for fleas with a trusted flea treatment ALL year round. Talk to your vet clinic for more information and find a treatment that is best for your pet.
