Talisman Farm has been missing the presence of a grey stallion for too long, so I just had to do something about that ...

Introducing Kohatu King of the Faeries (Leo). Leo is the result of a frozen semen breeding between Class 1 Connemara Stallion Gentle Cascade (Laerkens Cascade Dawn x Gentle Carra) and Windward Golightly (Crossiebeg Brennan x Biwmares Madonna). His dam was conceived here whilst Maddie was on lease with me and was foaled at Windward pony stud in the SI with Penny Mahy. Her full sister, TF Summer Breeze is one some of you may remember 🙂 and Leo's breeder, Sheila, was responsible for introducing me to Brennan all those years ago.

I've been trying to breed a stud quality c**t from Brennan for a few years, but Lile keeps giving me (beautiful) fillies and the last c**t I sold because, well, needs must, so, when I saw Leo advertised my ears pricked up BUT another horse wasn't really on the cards so I put those thoughts aside. Then, one by one, various people who know me would share the ad with me, ask me if I had seen him and tell me that he belongs here with me so, in a fit of madness, I reached out to the seller and, the rest is, as they say, history.

Leo is a full height pony so offers more height to those of you who really want to be sure you are going to be able to breed a hack or full height pony from your pony or hack mares and he has the potential to breed up significantly with a taller mare. He has excellent ground covering paces and very good manners. He has not been taught to collect yet so he will be live cover only until we have completed his AI training. This means that we will only be taking non maiden mares until we know him better - we may have AI available later in the season at a special price so, watch this space. He will be started under saddle this autumn, and I hope to campaign him lightly myself (or find someone else I can rope in to be his jockey).

If you are interested in a contract to breed to Leo, please PM me. Please note that we prefer not to graze mares here so local breeders are encouraged to have their mare's cycles checked and arrange to bring their mare to be bred when ready and taken away (roll in/roll out). We will offer VERY limited grazing to outside mares.

Because it is later in the season and Leo is new to us, we are offering him at a very special price of $600.00 plus handling ($200.00) but no LFG. The reason for no LFG is that I will make a decision regarding his breeding future next year when his foals hit the ground. And if it proves too difficult to continue to manage two stallions, he will be gelded and pursue a career as a performance pony. However, we are happy to offer a breeding to Brennan instead, should your mare not produce a live foal.

Newly hatched c**t by Brennan. This one is another who appears to have inherited the pangare gene. How cute is he? Congrats to his connections. Only one more to come and that's it for the season. Another season of quality over quantity ❤️

Yay! Mouse scanned with a single heartbeat today so we're on track for another beautiful Brennan baby next season - This foal will be for sale and we also invite anyone interested in an in utero contract to contact us (a great way to experience the excitment of breeding your own whilst spreading the cost out over time and avoiding the stress and sleepless nights).

Mouse/All Fun is a 17HH Hanoverian mare by Anamour. She was a top 5 foal in her inspection year and handy in the sandpit prior to entering the broodmare paddock a couple of years back. Mouse has had 2 foals, the first by Bellario and the second by Brennan. Both lovely upstanding types with sensible brains. It goes without saying that they move well but they also have excellent trainable temperaments and easygoing natures.

Petey stretching his legs today - Lola has been VERY foal proud and has taught Petey how to run fassssssssst! But today she has finally relented and is mostly back to her demanding self meaning that I am again, most of the time, recongnised as her best bum scratcher and treat provider. Still getting the ears back on approach tho, haha!

Crossiebeg Brennan - Class 1 Studbook Connemara Stallion and All Fun (Mouse) are expecting! Another scan in a week to check and see if that is a twin hiding behind a larger embryo but we have our first positive pg for the season, yay!

How's this for cute?! Torchwood Jelly Baby and Karen winning Reserve Champ Pleasure Horse in the hotly contested PH classes at Central Hawkes Bay show (a week after winning Reserve at Wairarapa A&P). Jaffa is by Brennan and out of Clifden Silver Mist so another rockstar purebred Connemara out there being a superstar for her rider. Smaller lady riders note, this is a pony being competitive against horses and showing that rider age is no barrier to riding and competing ponies!
