Seedy toe - we're seeing a lot of it lately. I think the combination of a wet ish winter and sudden dry onset seems to have created the perfect conditions.
There are all sorts of treatments available for seedy toe, but the cornerstone of longer term therapy is to cut the wall back, so the bacteria get exposed to air. If you cut it back far enough, the wall should get a chance to grow down with healthy new white lines.
Donkeys are often very resilient - if you had to cut this much back off a horse, you would often need to consider some remedial farriery shoeing.

Exciting Changes Ahead for Vet Clinic Wairarapa

After 10 incredible years of caring for all species, we're evolving to better serve our community. As part of this change, Louisa Broughton will be re-establishing her own equine veterinary business.

What does this mean for you?

- Business as usual until February: continue to book appointments by calling the clinic.
- More details on booking appointments and infrastructure will follow closer to the handover date.
- Louisa will be covering all horse-related care, ensuring a seamless transition for our equine clients.

The Vet Clinic will still be offering the same excellent service to your other animals as usual.

We're grateful for your continued support and look forward to this new chapter!

Bit of a sh@t start to the day for wee Rosie!
Thankfully her owner noticed her in the septic tank.. and he had the best neighbours in the world with incredible front end loader skills!

It's really important to appropriately medically restrain these cases to stop them further injuring themselves, or others. She looks to be doing well after all her ordeal.

Busy times with baby horses.. check out the size of this wolf tooth! You could barely see it on initial exam, just placed really annoyingly at the bit seat. It goes to show that they are like an iceberg and it's hard to know how long they will take to remove. Definitely look at these well before they are due to have a bit in their mouths =) mostly I say this because I forgot to silly me.
This hanging dental head collar works much better for us also, so you may find us bringing it with us for dentals. Trying to look after our own bodies for longevity!

Sarah Procter and I popped over to Wellington last night to partake in a chronic pain management meeting. Although it's aimed primarily at dogs and cats, there's a lot to be translated across to horses. And people!
Some strange ways that our bodies maladapt to long term pain - I'm sure many of you will have seen the classic sore backs with feet pain as an example. I love going full geek, let me know if anyone wants to discuss further!

A busy day in the sun today - I got to ride a lovely mare that I bred, and my baby horse had shoes on plus Keri and Hayley came out to do his dental. Keri found 2 very awkward wolf teeth so out they came, ready for a good bitting experience ahead! Keri sorted some more teeth while out at Panorama so zonked horses everywhere..
Plus, I found some high SPF lightweight clothes in the clearance section of the Warehouse - I need to stay pale and interesting.

I went down to Welly yesterday to partake in some emergency event planning for animals. So, thinking about what can we have organised in advance, what strategies we could take for when things do go wrong and how to communicate.
An epic bunch of people attended, varying from vets, animal control officers, area council representatives and more. The amazing Shanaea helped steer us all in the right direction.
So - have transport organised, whether that's knowing who you could borrow a float from, tow vehicle etc. Have enough cages for the number of cats you have on hand! Have spare feed and get to know your neighbours and community, especially if you're isolated.
We're a tough bunch but the weather events will surely keeping happening.
Stay safe all!

Either let the clinic know before the day with your details if you would like me to track you down, otherwise ring my work cell on the day so I don't miss you (0275990045)
