The team is looking forward to getting back to Ellerslie this afternoon! 🏇

MY SHARONA (Masa Hashizume, barrier 13) will line up in race 3 at 4.50pm. Her debut run was encouraging and she'll be better for the raceday experience today. She's got a tough gate to contend with, but with a bit of luck in the running, she'll be finishing on.

SABRINA HALL (Craig Grylls, barrier 10) will line up in race 4 at 5.29pm. She lacked luck last start and with better fortune today, she can get a more positive result.

Wexford Weekly – 10/12 🏇

Our three-year-old team have been making waves, and Saturday at Ellerslie proved no exception. SETHITO and PROSEGUR delivered a one-two finish in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes! This marked our second age-group feature win in just seven days, following Checkmate's Listed Armacup 3YO Stakes victory last Saturday at Ellerslie. As of this Saturday, our 2024/25 3YO class boasts 17 wins from 50 runners. ... And this was before DUA DANCE flashed home for a deserved win at Te Aroha on Sunday.

The team bookended the card at Te Aroha on Sunday. A $115,000 Wexford Stables purchase at the Karaka Yearling Sakes, DUA DANCE has always shown plenty and it was fantastic to see her put it all together on raceday, sporting the Bluestone Trust colours that have enjoy great sucess of late! In the last on the card at Te Aroha, those same colours were carried to win by JUNGLELAND. Congratulations team Bluestone!

Earlier in the week at Arawa Park, Cheaha left us shouting “yeaha” with a stunning debut victory, coming from last on the bend to win in style. Owned by one L A O’Sullivan, this Karaka Yearling Sales graduate is another exciting 3YO prospect for the team.

Tuesday’s trials brought more positive signs. GRANDE GALLO is in top form and will head to the Boxing Day Races at Ellerslie. Standout performances also came from TOMODACHI and WAIATA, both of whom look set for bright campaigns.

If you've taken a look at the noms for this weekend, you'll see that the team is in for a busy one at Te Rapa! Keep an eye on this page as we preview every runner.

Go well!

The Bluestone Trust colours have been to the fore in the past few weeks, with Wexford-trained winners TEXAS HOLD ‘EM, SAX ‘N’ SILKS, DUA DANCE and JUNGLELAND.

“Sethito was Andrew’s first pick of the lot in this race, while I might have been favouring the runner-up. But Sethito grew another leg when we put the blinkers on last start. She had to step up again today, and she’s certainly done that. All of our staff have done a wonderful job with all the three-year-olds this season. “ 💛

The outstanding form of Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott’s three-year-olds continued at Ellerslie on Saturday with a one-two finish by Sethito (NZ) (Super Seth) and Prosegur (NZ) (Proisir) in the Gr.

We're in for a Sunday session at Te Aroha this afternoon! 🏇

DUA DANCE (Masa Hashizume, barrier 2) will line up in race 1 at 1.06pm. A promising filly, we’re expecting better today. She’s trialed well at Te Aroha in the past and has the ability to do it.

MODELO (Niranjan Parmar, barrier 5) will line up in race 4 at 2.48pm. On debut today, he’s pleased at the trials and at home. He’s an improver, but we’re expecting a solid debut to kick off his racing career.

DEADLY DESIRE (Masa Hashizume, barrier 9) will also line up in race 4. Another promising type, she brings good levels of education to her debut and we’re expecting a competitive performance.

VIVACE (Matt Cartwright, barrier 9) will line up in race 5 at 3.21pm. He was unlucky on debut and if he can bring a similar performance today, he’ll be right in the finish.

GIPPSY GOD (Lynsey Satherley, barrier 7) will also line up in race 5. A stayer in the making, he’ll be better over more ground and whatever he does today, he’ll only improve on.

CUPID'S ARROW (pictured) (Masa Hashizume, barrier 13) will line up in race 7 at 4.32pm. Getting out to a more suitable distance today, she’s worked well and we’re expecting an improved performance.

JUNGLELAND (Craig Grylls, barrier 7) will line up in race 8 at 5.04pm. A similar story to his owner mate, he gets out to a more suitable trip today and should be right in this today.

Three cheers for SETHITO! The blue-blooded filly takes out the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes in style today at Ellerslie, with stablemate PROSEGUR storming home for 2nd and providing the team with the quinella in the 3YO feature 💛 🥂

A big congratulations to team Waikato Stud and owner/ breeder Garry Chittick on the win.

The team is looking forward to a busy afternoon at Ellerslie 🏇

ALAVISTO (Lynsey Satherley, barrier 5) will line up in race 2 at 1.26pm. He's been patiently handed and we're hoping to see him left the bar today. He gets out to a trip that should suit today.

WAITAK (pictured) (Masa Hashizume, barrier 7) will line up in the Gr.3 Concorde Stakes at 3.14pm. Our best winning chance of the day, he went a top race last start and with more luck in the running today, he'll be right in this. We've mixed his worked up with a wee bit of dressage and pony jumps and he's had a really enjoyable fortnight between runs.

CRACKERCOL (Ashvin Goindasamy, barrier 6) will line up in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes at 3.49pm. The little brother to Waitak, he continues to lift the bar and should be right in the finish tomorrow. He's a promising 3YO that keeps on improving.

RIBKRAKA (Lynsey Satherley, barrier 7) will also line up in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes. A gritty win fresh and he's continued to improve since that run. He's a promising staying horse that will be better suited over more of a trip, but is ready to give a good account today.

PROSEGUR (Masa Hashizume, barrier 2) will line up in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes. She brings the most raceday experience of our runners. She continues to grow in confidence, has a beautiful draw, is flying on the training track and should be very competitive.

SETHITO (Sam Spratt, barrier 10) will line up in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes. She fulfilled our hopes last start. She's gone the right way since that run and if she puts in a similar performance today, she can get valuable black type.

SICILLIAN (Warren Kennedy, barrier 9) will complete a Wexford Quintet in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes. A beautiful staying filly in the making, she's gone the right way since her last start win. She's a really interesting runner - she should be hitting the line strong, but will really be hitting her straps once she gets up over more distance.

DESERT MYSTIC (Billy Jacobson, barrier 1) will line up in race 8 at 4.59pm. He's trialed very well and is aided by a good draw today. The real bolter of the day, he can end the card strong for team Wexford.

TOKO ONO (Lynsey Satherley, barrier 16) will also line up in race 8. She went a real improvers race fresh-up and has taken good benefit with this. She's drawn a little awkwardly, but she'll be competitive and her next one will be her best one.

“A lot of these horses haven’t raced at two and we’re fortunate that we’ve got patient owners that are prepared to wait. The horses tell us when they’re ready to go and we’re making sure they’ve got very good education levels at home and at the trials before they debut."

The team is heading to Arawa Park - Rotorua Racecourse this afternoon, with eight horses set to step out 🏇

SLOANE SQUARE (George Rooke, barrier 11) will line up in race 2 at 3.2pm. A promising horse kicking off today, he’s still at the improving stage but is one to follow, with good natural improvement to come post raceday.

PHOEBE BUFFAY (Warren Kennedy, barrier 1) will also line up in race 2. Our best winning chance of the day, she went a blinder on debut in a strong form race. We think she’s better left handed, she looks fantastic in her skin and coat, and can go two better today.

CARAMEL SAUCE (Wiremu Pinn, barrier 14) will line up in race 2. A staying type of filly, she’ll take great improvement with her debut today and will only get better as the distances get further.

CHEAHA (Warren Kennedy, barrier 12) will line up in race 3 at 3.56pm. A promising horse that brings good levels of education through the trials. He's galloped in a manor that suggests he’ll debut strongly.

WOUNDER (George Rooke, barrier 16) will also line up in race 3. Another filly that will take good improvement with today’s outing, she’s one to keep an eye on as her confidence and experience levels increase.

SHE’S ALL THAT (George Rooke, barrier 3) will line up in race 4 at 4.30pm. She doesn’t have to improve much to be winning today! She went a nice race on debut and has trained on well since. She should be right in the finish.

KING OF NORTH (pictured) (George Rooke, barrier 10) will line up in race 7 at 6.23pm. He’s had two trails to set him for today and is a horse with a good season in front of him. We’ve always liked him and we’re expecting a bold run fresh up.

MONDAY MELODY (Craig Grylls, barrier 5) will also line up in race 7. He’s has trailed well heading into today and continued to work on well at home. From a good gate, he should make a very strong account of himself in a fresh state.

Wexford Weekly - 2/12 🐎

CHECKMATE’S outstanding win in the Listed Armacup 3YO Stakes at Ellerslie takes the cake for our favourite moment this week! Not many win a Listed race in their third start and the team are certinally excited about his future. But first, he’s off to the Kearney’s farm for a quick reset in the paddock.

We couldn’t have asked for anything more at Te Aroha on Wednesday - two runners for two winners! HANKEE ALPHA backed up her impressive debut win, flashing home from last to keep her perfect record in tact. A few races later, it was SAX ‘N’ SILK to the fore, getting her well deserved maiden win.

While winners are grinners, the performances of our beaten brigade at Ellerslie still had a smiling. TANGANIKA ran the quickest last 600m of his race, as did FASHION ROYALE. They’re two horses you can continue to follow with confidence.

It was great to see our Group 1 winner, GRAIL SEEKER, back in action at the Taupō trials. She put in a lovely, quiet gallop and is right on track for summer targets. MOSINVADER was in the same heat and was hitting out nicely. A lovely Proisir filly by the name of PRUDENTIA also pleased. She’s a quality 3YO that the team have put aside for the spring and she’ll be one to watch in the autumn.

We have a few first starters stepping out this week. DEADLY DESIRE and CHEEHA are both nice horses, with good levels of education.

On the gallops, a couple of nice 2YO’s caught the eye, including THUMBELINA and our SUPER SETH x DONNA CATTIVA filly. HURRICANE HARPER looked pretty natural at the jumpouts.

Trials Tuesday, races Wednesday, races Thursday, races Saturday and races Sunday - it’s ALL SYSTEMS GO this week! Keep an eye on this page as we preview every runner.

Go well!

Previously known as the Listed Trevor and Corallie Eagle Memorial, the 3YO feature is becoming a reliable springboard to bigger and better things for Wexford. Our subsequent Gr.1 Sistema Railway hero WAITAK won the race in 2022, while we finished second last year with GRAIL SEEKER, who went on to win the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy and the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas.

We returned again on Saturday, this time with the promising CHECKMATE, who was victorious in just his third raceday start.

The race now known as the Listed Armacup 3YO Stakes (1500m) is becoming a reliable springboard to bigger and better things for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, and that trend looks likely to continu

The team is in for a busy Saturday, with runners at both domestic meetings this afternoon 🏇

Ellerslie bound...

FASHION ROYALE (George Rooke, barrier 11) will line up in race 2 at 1.02pm. She's trailed well and brings good levels of education to her debut. She'll take good improvement from today's outing and a win will be close for this promising filly.

TEXAS HOLD 'EM (Craig Grylls, barrier 8 ) will line up in race 4 at 2.15pm. An impressive last start winner on this track, he faces a rise in class today but has a good load of talent and has gone the right way since his last run.

CHECKMATE (pictured) (Warren Kennedy, barrier 4) will line up in the Listed Armacup 3YO Stakes at 2.57pm. He's been nothing but impressive on raceday to date. He needs to take the next step today, but we've got a good opinion of him and while he's still improving, we believe he's our best winning chance of the day.

UDERZO (Masa Hashizume, barrier 1) will line up in race 6 at 3.32pm. He's taken good improvement from his debut run and ticks a lot of boxes today - loves Ellerslie, a good gate and an inform jockey. He's been training well and is one you can't leave out.

KINGFISHER (Ryan Elliot, barrier 2) will line up in race 8 at 4.42pm. He's got a big weight to carry, but he's drawn well, loves going right handed and has trailed well heading into today. We're expecting a good performance fresh up.

TANGANIKA (George Rooke, barrier 18) will also line up in race 8. He was a real eye-catcher fresh up and has gone the right way since that run. He's had no luck with the barrier draw, but if he can get luck in the running, he'll be right in the finish.

Heading to Wanganui...

SMOKESHOW (Harry Grace, barrier 1) will line up in race 2 at 1.20pm. He's got any amount of ability and if he does things right, he should be hard to beat.

About us

Established in 1961 with legendary trainer Dave O’Sullivan, Wexford Stables is one of the oldest training facilities in New Zealand.

Wexford have won every major race on the New Zealand racing calendar, various group 1s in Australia, including the Cox Plate and the Japan Cup, which at the time was the world’s richest race.

Our highly experienced staff, vets, farriers, chiropractors and trainers ensure that every horse at Wexford is provided with the best care possible. We recognise that every horse is a unique individual and we tailor extensive training plans for each horse, preparing them for specific targets.

Constant communication with our owners is a priority, with Lance and Andrew sending weekly videos, photos and updates of horse's progress via Ardex.
