The team is looking forward to Group racing at Te Rapa Racing this afternoon! 🏇

TIME TRAVELLER (Masa Hashizume, barrier 2) will line up in race 3 at 12.45pm. He looked to enjoy Te Rapa last start, will lap up the mile and will be aided by Masa, who's riding in top form.

LEX REX (Masa Hashizume, barrier 9) will line up in race 7 at 3.16pm. He's had a long break following a set back. He may improve a wee bit with his first outing, but should make a good account of himself today and is one to watch next start.

WAITAK (pictured) (Masa Hashizume, barrier 13) will line up in the Gr.2 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate at 3.49pm. With the weather forecasted, out wide may be the place to be. He's trialed well heading into today and has worked well at home. He sprints brilliantly fresh up, handles all sort of conditions and we're expecting him to be very competitive.

The team is heading to Taupō Racing Club today! The track is currently graded as a Soft 7 and rail is in the true position 🏇

JUJU POP (Masa Hashizume, barrier 3) will line up in race 3 at 1.07pm. She’s been off the scene for some time and has had two trials to prepare for raceday. We expect to see her hitting the line strong and she should be in for a good spring.

WINEXPRESS (Ace Lawson-Carroll, barrier 6) will line up in race 6 at 2.52pm. He faces a strong lot today and is possibly looking for slightly wetter ground, but he’ll be aided by Ace’s claim and should be hitting the line strong.

REPTAK (Masa Hashizume, barrier 10) will line up in race 8 at 4.04pm. Our best winning chance of the day, the form has been franked with stablemate Lux Libertas going on and winning again. He always works to a very high standard and we’re hoping he can get the week off to a winning start for team Devine, who also race WAITAK.

TE ATATU DREAM (pictured) (Masa Hashizume, barrier 8 ) will line up in race 9 at 4.34pm. This will be her first attempt around two corners, which she’s bred to do and we believe will suit. Her last two runs have both had merit and we’re expecting a strong performance today.

Earlier in the day, GRAIL SEEKER will enjoy a quiet trial to further her preparation towards the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy. She’s come back bigger and stronger and looks right on target!

Making the win all the more special, LUX LIBERTAS carried the NZ Horse Ambulance Trust silks and off the back of her win, we will be donating $500 to this vital service. A big ‘thank you’ for all you do, ensuring the wellbeing of our beloved equine athletes.

The 2024/25 season kicks off for Wexford today, with our first runners set to line up at Te Rapa Racing! 🏇

TIME TRAVELLER (Masa Hashizume, barrier 6) will line up in race 3 at 1.45pm. With a hood on for the first time and stepping up to 1400m, we're expecting a much more competitive performance.

LUX LIBERTAS (pictured) (Warren Kennedy, barrier 9) will line up in race 6 at 3.37pm. An impressive last start winner, she's continued to thrive and we see her as our best winning chance of the day.

TE ATATU DREAM (Billy Jacobson, barrier 4) will line up in race 7 at 4.12pm. She ran the quickest last 400m of her race last start. She's a winner on the track, will wear blinkers for the first time and should go close.

SILVER JAVELIN (Warren Kennedy, barrier 5) will also line up in race 7. She's been racing without a lot of luck this prep. She steps up to the mile today, is a fit mare and is due some good fortune on raceday.

WATERGATE (Masa Hashizume, barrier 8 ) will be one of three Wexford runners in race 7. She needed her last start, has taken good improvement from that run and we're expecting a big improvement.

As the sun sets on the 2023/24 season, we reflect on a breakthrough year for Wexford Stables.

Securing 3rd place in the trainers’ premiership, we celebrated 67 winners (in NZ and Australia), including 9 at stakes level and two Group 1 victories. Among the top 5 trainers in New Zealand, we hold the best stakes-level strike rate for our number of starters. From our 407 starters, 1 in every 2.46 horses finished in the top three.

MOLLY BLOOM was our glamour girl, winning the Gr.1 1000 Guineas, Gr.2 Eight Carat Classic, Gr.2 David and Karyn Ellis Fillies Classic and being crowned NZB filly of the Year. With the original ownership group retaining shares, we eagerly anticipate her Australian spring campaign.

A Derby contender in his 3YO year, WAITAK turned the corner as a sprinting sensation. He won the Gr.1 Sistema Railway in truly devastating fashion. He went on to compete at the highest level against some of the best sprinters in Australasia, filling Trackside Media and Perth Racing’s slot in The Quokka. What an experience that was! Keep an eye out for this lad in the spring…

Our other stakes winners included New Zealand Derby winner ASTERIX (Gr.2 Avondale Cup), DRAGON LEAP (Gr.2 Foxbridge Plate), GRAIL SEEKER (Gr.2 Wellington Guineas), KARMAN LINE (Gr.3 Rotorua Stakes), and I’MUNSTOPPABLE (Gr.3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes).

We are incredibly proud of our achievements on the track, but perhaps our proudest achievement is our team - both horse and human. ‘Team Wexford’ is more than a name; it’s a family. Walk through our barn, and you’ll find our horses are quick to pop their heads out for a pat, each with their own vibrant personalities that come about only through receiving positive experiences. We believe that our horses genuinely love being racehorses at Wexford.

Our heavenly grandstand gained our founder, mentor and much loved family member, Dave. We know how proud you were of the team’s achievements, you taught us all well.

As we mark 63 years since Dave O’Sullivan founded Wexford Stables, we’re still going as strong as ever, driven by the same passion and dedication that started it all 💛

Our final hurrah for the 23/24 season is here! Finishing our best season yet...

SILVER JAVELIN (Sima Mxothwa, barrier 14) will line up in race 3 at 12.37pm. She's been threatening all season and we believe a win is close. She'll be aided by Sima's 4kg claim and will be hitting the line hard.

WATERGATE (Warren Kennedy, barrier 16) will also line up in race 3. She's been freshened and may find the conditions today a touch tough. She looks great, will be aided by NZ's leading jockey and is one to keep an eye on next start.

SASSY LASS (pictured) (Warren Kennedy, barrier 3) will line up in race 6 at 2.19pm. Shooting for three in a row, there's no reason why she can't repeat the dose today. We believe she's capable of handling the step up in grade and should put in another bold performance.

EDIT: Following the first six races, this meeting was abandoned. The team is Arawa Park - Rotorua Racecourse bound today 🏇

TIME TRAVELLER (Warren Kennedy, barrier 1) will line up in race 1 at 11.49am. Drawn 1, race 1, number 1, number 1 jock - here's hoping we're starting the day with a 1 finish! He's familiar with the Rotorua track and should start our day on a positive note.

ALAVISTO (Ace Lawson-Carroll, barrier 12) will line up in race 5 at 2.09pm. He put in a real improvers run first up. He's familiar with Rotorua and has drawn the right side of the track.

SASSY LASS (Warren Kennedy, barrier 5) will line up in race 7 at 3.21pm. Gunning for three in a row, she's had two placings on the track from two attempts. She continues to race in strong form and there's no reason why she can't repeat the dose.

SILVER JAVELIN (pictured) (Sima Mxothwa, barrier 10) will line up in race 8 at 3.59pm. Drawn the right side of the track, she's been racing better than it looks. She's super fit, will be aided by Sima's 4kg claim and should go close.

WATERGATE (Warren Kennedy, barrier 7) will also line up in race 8. She's been freshened and although she may need this run, she's coming up well and is one to keep an eye on.

23/07/2024

The team will be represented in two events at Cambridge today 🏇

FORSETI (Masa Hashizume, barrier 1) will line up in race 6 at 2.54pm. Dropping back in distance today and from the ace draw, we're expecting a very competitive performance today.

BAGGIO (Masa Hashizume, barrier 5) will line up in race 7 at 3.29pm. He lacked luck last start. Having his second attempt over ground today and from a better draw, we're hoping he can finish his season strongly.

ALL THE WAY TO THE POST BOYS 💪🏼 🏆

Here it is, final team list for 2024.

As we go into our last game for the year, we look back at the many people who have contributed to getting our team here. From our awesome physio Janet holding the team together (with lots of tape 😉), the many partners/families holding down the fort at home, the groundsmen who keep our fields in tip top shape, sponsors, supporters, coaching crew, management, there are so many contributing factors that come to play within not just the team but the community and extended whanau who play their rolls.

We’re asking for one last push this weekend! Don the Red White and Black, get down to Bedford Park, support our boys as they take on Fraser Tech for the Lone Star Championship Trophy!

Let’s get it done boys 😤

🖤♥️🤍

Update: These races have been abandoned.

The team is Pukekohe Park bound today! 🏇

LUX LIBERTAS has been scratched from race 5.

REPTAK (Masa Hashizume, barrier 10) will line up in race 6 at 2.54pm. He has worked particularly well heading into today. We've opted to take the ear covers off which we think should sharpen him up a little. He's a super fit horse and should go close.

We post a lot about the good things that happen at Wexford, but today we experienced real tragedy.

We lost our stable sweetheart in Highligther. From the day we purchased her as a yearling, she cemented herself as a favourite among the team with her sweet nature and willing attitude.

Highlighter always gave her all, no matter the track conditions – she could run 1.09 or 1.15. She won six races and placed in a further 16.

Our thoughts go out to her connections and the entire Wexford team. In particular, Megan, who rode Highlighter almost every morning.

Today is one of the sad days for Wexford. Rest easy, girl. We will miss you dearly 💔

HIGHLIGHTER will be carrying the Wexford colours today in race 8 at Trentham, with the field set to jump at 2.50pm.

She's had a wee freshen since her last start and drops back in distance today. She's a course winner and has also partnered with Lemmy to win in the past. She always tries hard and looks to be a nice E/W chance.

Lemmy Douglas is booked to ride and the pair will jump from barrier 3.

A huge thank you to Entain TAB for bringing the Industry Excellence Awards to life, recognizing and celebrating young talent in our industry 🙌🏼

Congratulations Shannon and Caitlin - Lance, Andrew and the entire Wexford team are incredibly proud to have two of our very own nominated as finalists for the inaugural awards.

The team will be represented in two events at Cambridge Jockey Club this afternoon 🏇

FORSETI (Kozzi Asano, barrier 2) will line up in race 3 at 1.07pm. She finally draws a gate! She runs well on the Poly, should be suited by the step up in distance and looks to be a nice E/W chance.

BAGGIO (Sam Spratt, barrier 13) will line up in race 7 at 3.29pm. He's found the soft ground a fraction testing, hence the switch to the Poly. He's a super fit horse that should stay well over the 2000m and is another that looks to be a good E/W chance.

About us

Established in 1961 with legendary trainer Dave O’Sullivan, Wexford Stables is one of the oldest training facilities in New Zealand.

Wexford have won every major race on the New Zealand racing calendar, various group 1s in Australia, including the Cox Plate and the Japan Cup, which at the time was the world’s richest race.

Our highly experienced staff, vets, farriers, chiropractors and trainers ensure that every horse at Wexford is provided with the best care possible. We recognise that every horse is a unique individual and we tailor extensive training plans for each horse, preparing them for specific targets.

Constant communication with our owners is a priority, with Lance and Andrew sending weekly videos, photos and updates of horse's progress via Ardex.
