A few weeks ago on a very wet day it felt like spring was a very long way away. I decided to make a list of everything I grow throughout a typical growing season. Using the wonderful photos from the library (😍thank you) I created a pinboard of all of annuals, perennials, roses, shrubs and bulbs that I grow on my micro suburban flower farm. Being a visual person it’s the best way for me to plan the season ahead. It’s both reassuring and overwhelming (how do I fit it all in🤔?).
Knowing I’ve done the work in autumn with hardy annual & bulbs and spent time planning for summer blooms helps to keep me grounded when I wonder if I’ll have ‘enough’. I stare at it everyday and it makes me very happy😍

One of the perks of my day job was to be able to join an adults evening class making an LED Neon Sign. So instead of teaching STEM & making skills to young people I made myself a water lily neon for my LooseBlooms workshop. It was great fun meeting new people with such brilliant ideas. Over the three sessions we designed and soldered our signs together. Looks pretty cool if I do say so myself😂. I’m already thinking of my next one - maybe a ‘LooseBlooms’ logo…

Who says romance is dead? I got a rather sweet & thoughtful present from my partner today. A super big grow light to help with all of my seed sowing😍 My sweet peas are testing it out before being hardened off.

Summery sherbet blooms went out this morning destined for a wedding in the weekend. Locally grown flowers are grown with joy then designed with joy to make someone’s big day extra special - from beginning to the end. I love it.
Many thanks to my flower friends & for a few extra blooms when I discovered too many nibbled ones of my own. You two are the best🧡.

Today is the perfect day for seed saving - dry and sunny. Here is one of my favourite sweet peas Lathyrus chloranthus. So many seeds for next year which makes me very happy. .

Locally grown flowers are super fresh, long lasting and are grown by passionate flower growers. These flowers were picked last Friday and are still looking good. I’ve edited out a few spent blooms, refreshed the water and recut the stems and I can expect several more days of loveliness. Meet your local grower and you’ll never look back🤍. DM to order yours.

My first interesting dahlia seedling - parentage could be Totally Tangerine & Honka Fragile as these were grown in pots separate from my main dahlia beds. Another possible contender is Rip City who was close by. I quite like the fluted light orange petal tips & the darker centre…What do you think?

Being a flower farmer in late December is not as romantic as people imagine - summer dresses and straw hats. It’s squelchy jandals and a heavy duty raincoat😂. The flowers are, however, lovely whatever the weather.

At various stages in the season I think to myself ‘this is my favourite time of the year’ . Late spring and early summer blooms are frothy & textural - bursting with luscious colours. But I also know that I’ll say the coming dahlias and mid summer flowers are my favourite as well. I just love growing flowers and that’s why I love what I do 🤍.
