Training Retreat for Icelandic Horses & Riders

I‘m excited to finally be able to offer this training retreat to Icelandic horse riders in NZ and from overseas. It is an intensive 1- or 2-Day course for enthusiastic and ambitious Icelandic horse riders who want to grow their knowledge and improve their skills. You can bring your own horse or use my horses.
Training-topics will be tailored to each rider but will include:
- Riders fitness
- Riders seat
- Gait training/ Tölt training
- Groundwork
- Horse behaviour & management
- Icelandic Riding Badge preparation
1-Day retreat (max 2 People)
- 30min riders strengthening and stretching
- 2x 45min riding or groundwork sessions
- 45min theory session & QA
- Lunch provided
2-Day retreat with overnight stay (max 2 People)
- Each day 30min riders strengthening and stretching
- Each day 2x 45min riding or groundwork sessions
- Each day 45min theory session & QA
- 1x breakfast, 2x Lunches & 1x dinner provided
- Privat room with bathroom
Training facilities:
- Sand Round pen
- Grass arena with poles, cavalletti and jumps
- 5km ride possible through hilly farmland
Airport pick up/ drop off possible. I’m located 35min from Auckland Airport.

Ösp has finally arrived in her forever home ❤️ all the travelling in the last 4 years has come to an end. From Iceland to Dunedin to Christchurch to Auckland. Can‘t wait to meet her beautiful foal from Prins in December. The boys are happy too 🥰👏🏼 Exciting times 🐴🎉
Traustur Session with Silke
Finally managed to put a clip together from my lesson with Silke Feuchthofen. It is just so great to see how well my Traustur can do with a little more fine-Tuning. It is so important to be precise with your aids and have a clear picture in your head of what you want to achieve while riding 🙌🏼🐴❤️
Watch out Aucklanders!
The days are getting warming, Spring is already in full swing! This means the grass is changing into growing mode!
It is important to monitor and restrict your ponies accordingly to prevent the risk of laminitis in the next couple of weeks.
For Freddy this means very strict 5 min of freedom (which he really enjoys 😂) and then back into what he calls „prison“ with lots of hay and water. Once we are through the change in season he can go back out with his buddies 😊🐴
Warning signs of laminitis that require quick action:
- stiff and reluctant to move
- prefer to walk on grass rather than gravel/ concrete
- cresty neck (Shake the neck - it should be nice and flexible, not hard)
—> take to horse off grass immediately. You have about 24-48h to prevent the worst!
If your horse is:
- shifting weight from one leg to the other
- showing signs of lameness
- has hot hooves and a pulse in the front feet
—> your horse has laminitis and you need to call the vet immediately! Early treatment can‘t make the disease manageable. BUT it will never go away 🫣
