Smart Shepherd identifies magnificent mums, who have raised magnificent lambs.

We have a new initiative called the Smart Ewe Project which is super exciting - it aims to build a system to identify magnificent ewe lambs as replacement ewes that have been raised by magnificent mums in commercial sheep flocks.

The process is simple......
Collars are hired for a short period to capture the data and then the collars are returned to to download the information and send back the results.
New customers will receive support from our fabulous Smart Shepherd team as a first time user.

It may surprise you but there are no IT skills required to complete the task!

During the collar event the animal’s lifetime identification is matched to the collar ID, and once this has been completed, the remaining IT tasks are completed by software and the Smart Shepherd team.

7.10 pm - The Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund (TTAF) was announced today for vocational education and training. The dairy industry is desperate to employ staff as calving approaches and many skills will have to be learnt on the job. Farm 4 Life's, Tangaroa Walker, joins us about the launch for the Farm 4 Life Life Hub.

7.20 pm - New Zealand exported $859 million of lamb, mutton, beef and co-products in April despite Covid-19. Sirma Karapeeva, CEO of the Meat Industry Association, will discuss the tariff savings from CPTPP on New Zealand beef exports to Japan & how red meat has a recovery wishlist.

7.30 pm - Queens Birthday honours saw cattle legend, Bruce Mackenzie, of Maungahina Stud receive a Companion to NZ Order of Merit as the stud celebrates 75 years. Bruce will join us to share his families journey selling three breeds of cattle in the Wairarapa.

7.40 pm - A cutting-edge tracking device collar technology for sheep fitted to ewes and lambs using Bluetooth to accurately identify lambs raised by each ewe will help New Zealand sheep become more productive in the process. Aimee Charteris, director of Four Good Foods will join us to discuss the new Smart Shepherd technology.
