We are a non-government funded charity and we a funded solely on the support from our local community. Every year we care for thousands of lost, sick, injured, abandoned and abused animals. We rescue animals from harmful situations, attend hundr

eds of animal emergencies, and investigate hundreds of complaints about the ill-treatment of animals. SPCA Hawke's Bay has the power to protect all animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, including prosecuting people under the Animal Welfare Act 1999. 🎊 Forever Home Friday 🎊

Do you remember Henry and Timothee? They are now Tom and Jerry, and living in their dream home with Rob and Claire, showered with toys and love. We were over the moon to see them rehomed together - and it seems they are quite happy about it too!

"They appear to be very settled in their new digs, and have big purring engines that’s for sure! There goes our sleep once they transition onto sleeping with us. 💤 🤣
They definitely love the fireplace warmth, and love our coffee table with holes in it to play in, play fighting throughout the lounge room, chilling together, really I think just enjoying their new world. Thank you very much for picking Rob and I to adopt them - we are in love" 🐈 😺

😸 Whacky Whisker Wednesday 😸

Miss-Sing Whiskers here came to us an unclaimed stray with some peculiar looking grooming - short, stubby cheek and eyebrow whiskers! She was a very friendly and brave girl, and when it came time for her to find a home, she was a perfect match for Zoe! She now goes by the name Luna, and is living a life of luxury 🥰 🪴

"Luna really enjoys finding perches around the place, hopping up onto our laps for a cuddle or stretching out in the sunshine. She's the sweetest wee purr machine ever. In the evening as we get ready for bed, she takes herself off to her room, finishes her dinner, hops in her fluffy cacoon and we read her a story. Our hearts are just wiggling all of the time! Im so pleased we met her and got to welcome her into our family" - thank you Zoe! ☀️

❤️ Special love needed! ❤️ From today until Sunday 21 July, there are ZERO adoption fees for our longest-waiting residents.

We have countless animals in our care that have been waiting a long time to find their forever families 😢 Some may be a bit older, some may have health or dietary needs, or some may simply be a bit shy. For these special animals, we’re removing all adoption fees in order to find their forever homes.

All of our usual adoption vetting processes still apply, so we can ensure every animal finds the right home for their specific needs.

🤩 Transformation Tuesday 🤩

Little Gus was bought to us by a member of the public in April as a vulnerable newborn, without a mother, and in need of urgent care. He was taken home by one of our amazing foster parents, who has cared for him until today - and what an incredible difference this has made 😻

Gus is one of the many animals who have beat the odds and thrived into a brave, playful and curious young companion, due to the hard work of our foster families. Without our fosters, who play an integral part in ensuring positive outcomes for vulnerable animals, success stories like this would not be possible.

Not all of our kitties are on the website, due to staff being occupied with rainy afternoon blanket distribution and mandatory cuddles 😻 ☔️
As the Napier SPCA is also closed to the public on Friday 28th, Matariki would be a good chance to stay home with your new family member to help them settle in. Our 35 cats and kittens look forward to meeting you on Thursday evening!

⚠️ A State of Emergency has been declared in Wairoa, Heretaunga and Te Karaka as heavy rain and strong winds hit the East Coast ⚠️

For those in the affected areas, please ensure pets are indoors, and that farm animals are secure and have access to shelter, food and water.

If you need animal welfare assistance, please contact the MPI hotline on 0800 008 333 or your local Council for Civil Defence information in the first instance.

Please ensure you have an emergency kit/bag ready to go in case you need to evacuate, and make sure you have supplies for your pets. This should include items like food, a labelled carrier, their registration and microchip information, blankets and medication.

We are also here to help – our SPCA Hastings, Napier and Gisborne Centres all remain open, and we have blankets, bedding, crates and pet food available for those who have evacuated.

🌷 Helen the Brave 🌷

This very special Mama is available for adoption at last. She's had a long road to get here, and has been a sweet and resilient cat every step of the way. She came to us through no fault of her own in March, and not long after, had a small litter 🐱

Her babies have all grown big and strong - not to mention cute as buttons 😻 Now it's Helen's time to enjoy the adoption room while she waits for the purrfect family to take her to a loving home.

Those nights are getting cooler, so if your re-stocking your linen cupboard or having a summer-sheet clear out, please keep us in mind for any unwanted bedding, face cloths or towels. Dealing with nasties like Ringworm, Parvo and Mange means we rely heavily on our community for support while we keep our animals warm. Little baldy man Bohdi here is finally growing some fur back after having a hard start to life. He's thankful to have a snuggly warm bed to rest his little naked head while he waits for his happily ever after. 🐾

Did you know that New Zealand's ban on live exports by sea is under threat?

According to our survey, 63% of the New Zealand public aren't aware that the Government is planning to reverse our world-leading ban 😧 This would be a national embarrassment, and a huge step backwards for animal welfare in New Zealand.

Photographs taken on board live export ships show the horrific conditions these animals are forced to suffer through. Cramped spaces, standing in their own urine and faeces, many are subjected to extreme temperatures and suffer from heat stress.

🥰 Happy Home Update 🥰

Thank you to Karen and family for the following lovely update. These two kitties certainly won the lottery!

"Roxy (now Pixie) and Gomez (now Stanley) are 7-9 months old now. We brought a second hand kids trailer and take them out biking, they go in their carry cot for drives in the car. They have their coats for the chilly mornings and their reflector colours so that cars see them when they decide to chase leaves out on to the road. These two are the light of our lives, no two days are the same and coming home to them is just the best." 🐾😻

We are thrilled to see Tiny Teddy find a home with Cristina and her son. He is "going to be spoilt rotten" which is music to our ears! It's been a big journey for this little man, so we are beyond happy for him that he will have a loving family 🥰

Thanks to one very special volunteer, who is committed to the enrichment of our dogs, Nova is living it up at the beach this morning...What would be a totally normal outing for an owned dog - is an exceptional event for a shelter dog. New Year, New Kitten! Our Feline team have been hard at work socializing this sweet young ginger boy, Buddy. It has taken him a while to come out of his shell, but he is becoming so brave - even crying out for pats and treats! If you are thinking of expanding your family in 2024, or maybe offering your home as a socialization fosterer, you will be giving shy kitties like Buddy here a chance at a happy and healthy forever after 🦁🐾😺

Beach Boy the brave

Beach Boy the brave 💙 This is Beach Boy. Found wrapped in a blanket on the beach and rushed into our Napier Centre, he was in a lot of pain when we met him. We found he had a historic injury to his hip which made his life pretty unpleasant, and the poor boy was enduring a lot 😭 Despite this, he stole our hearts from the very beginning here at SPCA. He is an absolute smooch, loves making biscuits and chirping away, and was so brave and gentle despite his suffering. We got Beach boy the surgery he needed, and as you can see he’s sporting a seriously stylish shaved ‘do while he recovers! Our team are doing physio to strengthen his hip post-op, and he’s as social and sweet as ever. He’s going to make someone the best pet one day soon. When you donate to SPCA, these are the journeys you’re making possible. It’s never an animal’s fault they have wound up enduring pain – whether from injury, abuse, or accident – and they deserve a chance at recovery. Here at SPCA, we do what we can to treat animals and get them to a point they can be adopted – but we can’t do it without you!
