Due to a change in circumstances for his current owner, Bear is looking for a new home. Bear has been a much loved, regular attendee at daycare for the last four years.
Bear is a 4 year old neutered Poochon x Shih Tzu and is up to date on all his vaccinations. He is a very charming and charismatic boy, full of energy and character. He adores walks, swimming and anything relating to tennis balls. He is a companion animal that thrives on routine, and isn't the sort of dog to be left at home alone all day - he does well being left for about 4 or 5 hours tops. Kids and cats arent his strong suit, but he does great with other dogs, particularly older dogs. The perfect home for him would be a part time worker, or someone semi retired that has the capacity to give him the attention and exercise he deserves. He does get environmental allergies that are managed with a daily pill (a few months supply of that will be given to his new home), and he can be a bit of a fussy eater. He's excellent at Daycare and also the Kennels. He is a truly lovely boy who deserves a great home.

🐾 COME JOIN OUR TEAM 🐾

The Contented Canine doggy daycare are looking for a casual dog handler to join our team in central Nelson.
This casual position is open to fill gaps in our roster, cover sick leave on short notice, and cover annual leave when required.
This position could lead to permanent shifts in the future.

We are a fun loving team who are dedicated to providing top level care, safety and management in our daycare environment.

Our ideal candidate will have:
- Confidence & experience handling dogs. (Animal care, handling or behavioral qualifications would be an advantage).
- FIexibility
- Have great initiative, be physically fit,
hardworking, motivated & reliable.
- A passion for dogs

While we have fun at what we do, there's no
question it's hard work. We want you to be able to roll up your sleeves and get right into it. This job isn't for someone who just wants to sit down and cuddle dogs. While we get to do a lot of that, there is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

We are looking for someone who is available for shifts between 7.30am-5.30pm Tuesday-Friday.

🐾🏅 What a day at The Contented Canine Pawlympics 2024! Our furry athletes gave their all, with some standout performances that had tails wagging in excitement. The Terrier team, proudly representing Scotland, showcased their agility and teamwork, making their country proud with every leap and bound. Meanwhile, the German Schnauzer team stole the show in the running events, proving that their speed and stamina are second to none. However, not all was smooth sailing. A scandal delayed the Water Bowl Emptying event when the water bowl was found to be, ahem, ‘polluted’ by an overexcited participant. After thorough water quality testing and cleansing, Bee prevailed with the fastest time making it a memorable day for all our canine competitors. 🐶🐾🏆

About Us...

Dogs have always been a big part of my life. I have always had at least one of my own, usually more. Even while flatting at University I couldn’t be without a dog and adopted a wee rescue. I love all dogs and have owned a wide range of breeds from Bullmastiff to Brussels Griffon.

In 2004 after qualifying as a Veterinary Nurse I began working at a local vet clinic where I gained valuable practical experience and was given the responsibly of running their puppy preschool classes. This reinforced that my real passion was dogs and I continued to do more courses & seminars relating to Canine Behaviour & Training.

A few years later with the encouragement of many clients, I established and built a successful Luxury Boarding Kennels on the outskirts of Wakefield (The Canine Retreat). I enjoyed running the kennels for several years and a lot of regular guests became a big part of my life. It was a very hard decision to sell the business but by then we had two young kids and one more on the way.

Our kids are now older and once again I’m loving working full time on building a business I’m passionate about, The Contented Canine.
