"Hi, I’m Jack. I’m an 8-year-old heading dog and I’ve lived on my farm, in Wanaka, all my life. 🐾
My farmer says, I’ve got “one hell of a work ethic.” 😮

I have SUCH a desire to work, in fact, that I’ll get 30 yards away from my farmer and I won’t hear him calling me back.
Then, if I notice stock on the nearby farms, I’ll busy myself working those too! 😎

Yeah, my farmer thinks I really need to start taking it easy now.
He’d like to find me a loving new home, as a PET – away from farm life – where I won’t feel the temptation to work. 💛

I've been on a bit of an adventure recently too. Learn my story to find out more!"

We would like to introduce Fletcher

Fletcher is a patient here at the clinic who lives in Lincoln with his loving family. Unfortunately Fletcher went missing for 12 days. He was found all the way over in Rangiora. Yes, you heard us correctly, around 45km away!!

The reason Fletcher was reunited with his family was because he was micro chipped and on the NZ Companion Animal Register. The animal register means that as soon as an animal's microchip is scanned by one of their approved users (vets, spca etc), they can contact you and arrange their safe return.

The NZCAR is for all companion animals (pets) including cats and dogs, rabbits, horses, birds, guinea pigs, and many others!

This is a friendly reminder to have your pets micro chipped and then put onto the NZ Companion Animal Register.

Check in with our friendly reception team today to see if your pet is on the database or how to go about getting them on the animal register.

A big welcome home Fletcher from us all at Prebbleton Vets

Due to the nature of our work, privacy and security are of the utmost importance. This is not only to protect the pets we care for but also the families and our staff. This is because our service is designed to help people take that first step to escape violence. This often means people are still planning their escape, in the midst of leaving, and even in the worst scenario hiding from the perpetrator in fear of their safety.

You may have seen that the names and locations are changed to protect everyone's identities in all the cases and stories we share with you. If any information makes it back to the abuser, we could be putting their well-being and ability to leave a domestic violence situation at risk.

This is also why our shelter is closed to the public and kept under lock and key. We wish we could offer opportunities to our supporters, such as volunteering, shelter visits, and fostering; however, this would put security at risk.

So, to support us we ask that you donate to our cause and help pets find safety while their owners escape abuse. Every $1 goes a long way to providing pets and families with the chance to live violence-free.

We are so excited to be working with many organisations around the country to host six EQuiChip® events this year, with the first in May in Taupō.

EQuiChip® is our national equine microchipping campaign, and they’re wonderful community-driven events where local equine community and vet clinics can come together to work on identifying and protecting the NZ horse population.

Each one-day event will provide microchipping and registration on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR) for a small administration fee. A big thank you to MSD Animal Health for signing up to sponsor these events with their temperature-reading microchips, Thermochip®.

Look out for local event pages and registration links coming soon!

The NZ Companion Animal Register works with thousands of authorised users nationwide, including SPCA, vet clinics, and rescues, who use the NZCAR to help get lost pets home! Pet-lovers put a lot of thought into choosing the perfect name for their furry friend – but only one name can come out crowned the 'top dog'.

23/11/2023

We’re putting the focus on our furry friends of the feline kind and looking to potentially introduce a Cat Bylaw.

Cats have long been cherished members of our households, providing us with endless joy and companionship. However, as responsible pet owners, we recognise the need to balance our love for these animals with the well-being of our communities.

Our proposed Cat Bylaw would focus on the mandatory microchipping and registration of cats, a key step in promoting responsible domestic cat ownership. This is different to feral cat management which is dealt with through our Pest Managment Plan.

Please note, we will not be charging for or making any money from microchipping or registration. If this bylaw is put in place, a cat owner would pay a vet to get their cat microchipped and pay a one-off $15 charge to the New Zealand Companion Animal Register to register their cat - that is all.

Share your views with us online through our quick polls, the cat owners survey, or tell us what you think in your own words in the ‘we’re all ears’ section – we’re asking for early feedback until Monday 11 December.

We’re also paws-itively curious about your cat’s microchip, registration and desexing status. This information will help us to know what proportion of cat owners would be affected by a new Cat Bylaw.

Go to shape.tasman.govt.nz/cat-bylaw – it’s the purr-fect place to share your feedback!
