Anakattz New breeder of distinction - Bengal & Maine C***s in Taranaki We are a very new cattery based in New Plymouth.

Four years ago I bought my first Bengal "Jag" from my mentor Sue Blair of Celerity. Our family totally fell in love with everything about the breed and two years ago got the opportunity to purchase our first breeding queen "Suri" - again from Sue. Suri has presented us with two litters to date - the first gave us "Skye" & the second has given us "Ice" - who are going to be the stars of our cattery

for the next few years while we continue to build our reputation and breeding lines. My eventual aim is to develop strong brown rosetted Bengals with the "wild" look unique to the breed with qualities that meet the accepted standard. I do have a huge side interest in Charcoals and Melanistic colourings - the masked faces of the charcoals & the black panther look of the mels, along with the ghostly markings which only appear in the sunlight have always fascinated me & my eventual aim is to get both these colour-varieties accepted by Cat Fancy. As you may gather from the above spiel at present we only have the Bengal breeding program up and running at present. However over the next three years, with the help of my daughter we will be working on getting our Maine C**n program started. Our focus for the next few months will be planning our next matings and the development of a web page & I will keep everyone updated on the progress as we go.

I would like to apologize to anyone that I haven't replied to as yet . . . My only excuse is that somebody keeps stealing time from my days

My recent project is re-building a home for my boys who had been moved inside when their original exterior enclosure got invaded by wasps in the walls . . . not only was the noise driving them crazy, but I am allergic, so the enclosure had to be demolished . . . there was also some flaws in the original build that I needed to fix as well - it is taking slightly longer than anticipated to put back together - due to weather and me getting a concussion. It is now around 2/3 finished and I think my boys will love it.

New anouncement- Skye had her babies yesterday - 5 new bengals with two of them possible marbles . . . See if you can spot them . . . Skye is a 3rd time mum (& Andies mum) so she doesn't mind her babies being touched as much as Andie.

A shot of Andies babies - unfortunately I haven't been able to get decent pics of the individual babies - Andie is still very protective & as the Kitts are only a week old I don't want to upset her too much. But their eyes are starting to open & they are beginning to wander around their box

The birthing box I originally made for Andie, which was stolen by Skye - used the Warehouse storage bin for this. Like the result although I broke a cutting wheel while cutting g out the opening.

The opening has sloped sides as the storage box has a shaped section which I just cut around

I got a couple of storage bins 1 from bunnings for $8 and 1 from warehouse (see 2nd post). Used my new rotary tool (again from the warehouse) and cut out an opening - note that I left the lip to give is some strength when the lid goes back on. Once I cut it out I tidied up the edges (again with the rotary tool), put a dry bed in and clipped the lid on. Andie immediately moved in and made herself at home.

One thing I was a little disappointed with was the frailty of the bunnings storage box - if you look close enough you can see a small Crack that occurred during the cut phase - but I will cover this with tape when I line the openings.
