A proud day for New Plymouth trainers with JUSTASKME's amazing feat and CATSACHARMER for Tawhiti Hina who put in a huge effort for third earlier in the day. Happy Mother’s Day!

Today we give a shout-out to one of Australasia’s greatest ever equine mums, the champion broodmare Eight Carat.

While she didn’t set the racetrack on fire herself, she’s regarded as one of the best matriarchs in NZ racing history with five individual Group 1 winners to her name, including the great Octagonal.

In recognition of this remarkable record, she was named the New Zealand Broodmare of the Year three times and was even bestowed the title of ‘International Broodmare of the Year’ in 1996. Eight Carat was honoured with induction into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame in 2016 and we remember her every year at the Boxing Day Races with the running of the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic.

It has been a busy week, trials, races, jump outs and it quickly became apparent that a trainer's job is never done and this week Carrie from Stellar Syndications got up close and personal with all the action.

Preparations are definitely underway for trips to Australia and the spring racing carnival here in New Zealand.

Special mention must go to the performances of the week:

💫 A perfectly timed run saw URENUI way too good in the Flipp Transport 1400 at Awapuni last Sunday. Prepared by Debbie Harris, URENUI is a 3 year old bay gelding, locally bred and owned by Chris Thompson.

🔥 The eye-catching trial of a 2 year old CHARM SPIRIT x ZAFRENZY filly at the Foxton Trials on Tuesday. Prepared by Tawhiti Hina, Chocco is locally bred and owned by Max Dravitzki.

It was a privilege to witness our emerging trainers succeeding and their hardwork and love for their horses being rewarded.

There is some fine equine talent coming through the ranks and followers of New Plymouth Raceway based trainers have a lot to look forward to this season and into the next. It's an exciting time to be apart of the LOVERACING.NZ scene, so if you're not already hurry up and get involved - join the ride, you won't regret it 🏇🏻

👑 with the very special HILARY BANKS, and here she is having her first start in the 1200m Telegraph Hotel Otaki Maiden 3YO a few months ago.

More affectionately known as Hilz, she has since placed 2nd behind ENCIERRO and we are very much looking forward to having our girl back in work soon 🏇🏻

Purchased as a yearling from Pencarrow Stud for 1.3 million dollars, BURGUNDY, son of champion sire Redoubte's Choice from Zabeel mare Grand Echezeaux, has sired group winning champions Bellaconte, Brandenburg, Dijon Bleu, Hard Merchandize and Mondorani and promising 4yo Tanzanite Rose.

Out of dam MINKAM (half sister to the Group 3 performing Tullaroan) who from 25 race day starts had 4 wins from 1400m to 2100m and finished in the top 5 a further 6 times from 1300m to 2200m.

We are really privileged to have the opportunity to syndicate Scooby who we have acquired on lease from Hunterville based owner and breeder, Christopher Grace QSM.
