Each and every year, we treat pets who have ingested the following foods/items and require veterinary care.

๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ—Fatty Foods and Bones: Avoid giving pets fatty foods and cooked or uncooked bones, as they can splinter and cause injuries or blockages. One that causes a lot of issues is BBQ meats like sausages.

๐Ÿฅœ Macadamia Nuts and Walnuts: These nuts can be choking hazards and cause digestive issues. Macadamia nuts, in particular, can make dogs vomit and feel weak.

๐Ÿ”‹ Batteries: With new gadgets around, batteries may be left out. If chewed or swallowed, they can cause serious injuries like obstruction, chemical burns and poisoning.

๐Ÿฌ Xylitol: Found in many sweets, sugar-free products, and some peanut butter, xylitol can be life-threatening for dogs, leading to low blood sugar and liver failure.

๐Ÿชด Certain Plants: Some plants like poinsettias are mildly toxic to pets. Lilies are particularly dangerous for cats and can be fatal if ingested.

๐Ÿ‡ Grapes, Raisins, and Christmas Treats: These can cause kidney failure in dogs. Be especially cautious with Christmas pudding and fruitcake.

๐Ÿง…Onion and Garlic: These can upset your pet's stomach and damage their red blood cells.

๐Ÿซ Chocolate: Keep chocolate away from pets, as it can lead to seizures and other serious health issues.

๐ŸŽ„Decorations and Tinsel: Christmas tree needles and decorations can be hazardous to pets if they chew on them.

๐ŸพAlcohol: Even small amounts of alcohol can harm pets and lead to serious health problems.

If you think your pet has ingested anything mentioned above, contact your vet immediately.

Check out this amazing science project by our neighbor, who also looks after our clinic cat, Meatloaf, when weโ€™re closed! ๐Ÿพ She did a fantastic study to determine Meatloafโ€™s favorite color by observing which food bowl he preferred most. Weโ€™re so proud of the work she did and grateful for her dedication to our beloved Meatloaf. Science and cats make a purr-fect combination! ๐Ÿ˜ป

Fireworks season can be a stressful time for our beloved pets. ๐Ÿพ Follow these tips to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable during this noisy season. ๐Ÿกโœจ

1. Keep your cats indoors and ensure theyโ€™re microchipped with updated details.
2. Take your dog for an early, stimulating โ€˜sniffโ€™ walk to tire them out.
3. Create a cozy den where your pets can feel secure away from loud noises and bright lights.
4. Consider using over-the-counter calming products like Feliway, Adaptil, Thundershirts, or Calmex, and consult your vet about any anxiety concerns.

Letโ€™s keep our pets happy and safe this firework season!

New forever home needed due to owner having to move into assisted living.

We have been asked to help spread the word about these brothers MARMALADE and TIGER LILY. Their mum is having to move to assisted living accommodation and is not allowed to take the cats, so the search is on for a new home. She has already asked family and friends but no one's in a position to take the cats as they already have their own pets.

The boys are almost 7 years old, have a clean bill of health, are neutered & microchipped, and have just had their vaccinations updated. They are inside/outside cats โ€“ having free rein to come and go as they please, but are used to being shut inside at night. During the day they love to 'go bush' on adventures (or sleep in top secret hidey spots) as their current home is rural and surrounded by greenery.

Theyโ€™re not fussy eaters, just the usual mix of cat biscuits and jellymeat and theyโ€™re happy lads. Personality-wise Tiger Lily is the boss, which suits Marmalade as heโ€™s a little bit shyer than his brother, but both are loving cats who like to snuggle up on the bed at night.

To replicate their current living environment, the boys would be best suited either to someone living alone, or a couple, with no other cats. They are used to a peaceful home life and havenโ€™t been around the busyness of children or dogs. Ideally it would be absolutely AWESOME if they could stay together, because thatโ€™s all theyโ€™ve known - having been hand raised from tiny kittens when their mum was killed.

If youโ€™re interested in giving these boys a wonderful forever home, please do reach out to Teresa ph: 021 026 098 79. She will be happy to answer any of your questions and arrange for you to visit.
