When we think of grief, we often associate it with the emotions and pain we experience after losing a beloved pet. However, grief can begin long before that final goodbye.
The grieving process is deeply personalโno two people experience it in the same way. There is no set timeline, no right or wrong way to grieve, and the depth of our sorrow is unique to each of us.
Alongside supporting people after the loss of their cherished pets, I also offer guidance for those facing the heartbreaking reality of a pet diagnosed with a terminal illness or a severe injury with a poor prognosis. In these difficult situations, emotions run high, and the weight of making end-of-life decisions can feel overwhelming.
The confusion, sadness, and anxiety you feel in these moments are all part of anticipatory griefโthe sorrow that starts before the loss occurs.
I am here throughout this difficult journeyโfrom the start, through the goodbye, and beyondโuntil you no longer need my support.
Pet loss is no less heartbreaking than any other loss and should never be dismissed as such. Grief is grief, and it is just as real and valid.
If you know someone who is about to lose their pet or has recently lost oneโor if you are going through this yourselfโplease be kind to them and to yourself.
