We are excited to announce our base move to Taranaki! Some of you may have already met me as I've been working alongside Jock Good.

Our book is open for more clients who are wanting quality farrier services in the region!

Encouraging a horse to be curious about things which are new rather than freeze and become closed.

This young girl is a closed book when it comes to interacting with things which move and make noise. Made great strides today as she started to interact and play with the tarp over coming a fear and learning how to constructively deal with new situations.

Welcoming a new member on board the team, Rosie!

Some days you’ll catch me with Leigh as I learn the ropes about what it takes to be a farrier (yes the squat gains are real) other days I’ll be out and about helping you with all thing’s ponies, from first touches with young stock to working through behavioural issues and everything in between. I’ll even be the face behind most of the posts which are made on here, going forward.

A bit about me… This is my big girl… Yep a chestnut mare hahaha and she is every bit the moody stereotypical chestnut mare your thinking of. I have ridden horses most my life, coming from an urban family I worked hard to fulfil my passion and love of horses. My first own horse story started a few years ago when I first got this 17hh, pushy and hormonal mare with horrendous feet. It’s been a journey of understanding when is the time push her around and be the dominant leader, and when she needs a quiet word whispered in her ear and some time to think (and lick n chew). Together we have come to the ultimate goal with a happy healthy horse, which is safe and fun to be around both on the ground and under saddle.

A lameness issue that is definitely going under treated, mostly due to lack of understanding of how severe the problem can become. An infection in this area is painfull, can stop horses from jumping, open you up to constant abscesses and misbehavior when trying to pick out hooves.
Many horses in New Zealand present with fungal infections due to the wet, muddy conditions. What can be done? Get onto it early! Try to get your horse on dry ground for a few hours a day, regular hoof care, treat them with a proven and effective thrush treatment. (There are many on the market.)

Highly recommend following The study of the equine hoof for more content. 😎
