Kate is kindly letting me use her office for a second 'Taster' session in November. Kate's K9 Help is located at 1662 Carrington Road, Koru, New Plymouth. If you would like to book a session please get in contact with me. Last time the day booked out quickly and we had to offer a second day.
For your dog's comfort, I only offer bookings for a 1/2 hour session. If you decide this is something you would like to do, after we touch base and set a time, I will require you to email your vet to give them permission to forward your dog's medical history to me. As you can appreciate it takes me a bit of time to read the entire history of each dog, so if you book earlier rather than later I would appreciate that. It gives me time to read and process these. Of course, if you attended the first taster you have been there, done that and I would totally love to see you again.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you and your dog. I greatly value your patronage.

I have just completed a professional development course on Fascia. Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue which holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle and cell in place. It is so important for human and canine movement. When it is healthy it is flexible and stretches with us. However, when restricted it will affect movement locally and also can restrict movement away from the issue due to networks of fascial lines. Inflammation and trauma can cause knots/trigger points. These knots can be latent or active (which cause pain) and they will be there long term unless they are worked out of the body. Myofascial pain is often an overlooked cause of pain and restriction.
This was a continuing education online vet course associated with the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) to help me be the best practitioner I can be.

A big thank you to Kate Hocking for hosting me this weekend at Kate’s k9 help and swim fitness for a ‘massage taster’. And a big thank you to the people I met over the weekend who trusted me with their fur babies. Such a large variety of dogs and I was totally in heaven! This weekend has gone waaayyy too fast.

Today marked the end of my massage services with Mickey. He was one of my maternity leave cover dogs. After 6 months, the bond is pretty close and it is extra special as Mickey was my first paid massage client. Just as all firsts are special, the memory of this extra cool dog will be with me always. Thank you Ohana Animal Physiotherapy for the opportunity to look after your clients and to Mickey’s owners for permission to post and being the amazing humans you are.

I am now available to work Thursday-Sunday. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

It was my pleasure to spend this weekend at the NAMC (Northern Alaskan Malamute Club) Northern Speedway Classic held at the Huntly speedway. I got to watch mushing of 6,4 and 2 dog rigs, scooter racing, and a weight pull event where I watched a dog pull a weighted trolley. The winner pulled over 500kgs!! This was a completely new experience for me to see and hear these dogs in action. Boy they love it and get super excited- nothing like some healthy competition.
In addition to the entertainment I got to get my hands on many of these beautiful dogs like Cookie and Blaze pictured . Thank you so much NAMC for having me, Ohana Animal Physiotherapy for inviting and taking me and the owners for letting me work on their dogs and allow me to post these pictures.
Would love to come back next year.

Here are my fur children. They make my life better and I would do anything for them. Beau is a 9 year old headstrong golden retriever who walks me twice a day. The ginger and cream cat is Sparkley (11) and the grey one is Treasure (14). Unfortunately, Sparkley has osteoarthritis in his elbows equivalent to a retired All Black so he now has trouble jumping.
Beau is my second golden retriever. Tig passed away 17 years ago but he was the one that made me realise I wanted to work with and help animals. He had cruciate surgery late in life and really suffered with arthritis in his senior years.

Hi everyone, it seems I have inadvertently sparked some interest. Thank you for your curiosity and queries over the last couple of days. I will put up some details and pictures so you can see who I am and what I do soon.
I graduated from the Canine Health and Wellbeing Remedial massage course last October wanting to change career after covid and realising the huge need for canine bodywork here. This study took me a full year to complete. I am not qualified to work on horses- sorry-mainly dogs but will work on cats (although cats need shorter sessions as they are less tolerant and are often very sensitive).
My business is pretty new,.
Until April I have worked on friends and neighbours dogs for experience and any dog I could basically get my hands on for free, koha or coffee. Obviously there is huge variation between the breeds. I know there is much to learn.
I have purposely kept a low profile and not advertised because at the moment this business is very part time. I currently work .6 some weeks and most weeks .8 in my other job. Thursday is my only dog day. I have three sports mad teenagers so I am often the Uber to sports at night at the moment.
Amazingly for me, I walked straight into a maternity cover gig. I am currently covering for Ohana Animal Physiotherapys clients providing maintenance massage and dogs referred to me via hydrotherapy. These are my priority. I love my Thursdays!!!!
My books are not really open as such at the moment. I am slowly meeting and building relationships with the vets to create a high trust collaborative relationship between owner, vet, other therapists and myself. I will not work on your dog without its medical history. I am happy to get this myself from your vet so I have a full understanding of what has been happening . From an insurance point of view they will not cover me unless I have it.
Massage basically provides drug free pain relief to your dog and is especially beneficial if your dog has osteoarthritis or has mobility issues. Think about how your own muscles weaken after a few days in bed.
I am happy to start a waitlist if you are interested in me working on your dog. If you just want a couple of treatments after a surgery or something I can try and fit you in on a Thursday or some Fridays or during a weekend. In September, I will be returning the current clients I am looking after and will be taking my own. My work situation could free up depending on how much interest there is. If a dog is struggling I will try and help if I can. At the moment I travel to people as I don’t have a building. Turns out websites are pretty expensive so that will be a while away. I am not a great fan of social media so just text me in the first instance if f you want to make contact.
Nga mihi

I am so excited to be starting doing the work that I love on the animals that you love. It is such a privilege to be able to provide soft tissue and body work services to companion animals in New Plymouth, Taranaki. I am looking forward to seeing them move better, decrease their pain and reduce their stress and anxiety.
