Dear friends,

We are in the process of finalising some additional signage around the zoo. Please ignore any typos, as these are only drafts. We believe these signs will enhance your awareness during your visit and help you engage with us in a positive and constructive way. We will continue upgrading our facilities to provide a wonderful home for our animals. We aim to support the community by offering a memorable recreational and educational experience for visitors of all ages. We also live within zoo grounds and strive to set a good example to our own children. They even help us time to time with a little enticement (pocket money...)

Looking forward to your next visit!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who care for and love their children. Thanks to the mothers in the community who have supported our zoo by bringing their families generation after generation. And let's not forget the precious mums in our zoo, like Silver, one of the best mums in the world, with her two offspring.

Aleekah is fully camouflaged! Almost... Some of our visitors wonder why we don't have our grass as tidy as Pukeiti Gardens? Well, that's because this is how Aleekah likes it. ❤️

Yes, it looks messy! Did you know emus love mud baths? It's also a cooling mechanism for them. Although we provide a natural source of mud for our emus in only a very small quarter of their living area. Warning: this is not recommended for humans! Just ignore our emus if you see them enjoying themselves in the mud. Or share your enjoyment with them. 😊

Dear friends,

Unfortunately, we have lost our beloved meerkats, Gold and Silver, due to old age and health complications.

They were like family to us, as are many of our animals. They represented love, positivity, curiosity, and compassion towards life for us.

Some of you may have witnessed Gold's health deteriorate, especially towards the end of his life. It must have been difficult to observe, especially for our younger visitors. We would like to thank our community for providing valuable memories, approaching us with empathy, and sharing their thoughts and care about our meerkats towards the end of their lives.

We would also like to express our gratitude to our veterinary team, who cared for Gold and Silver with compassion, love, and professionalism. Additionally, we extend our thanks to Wellington Zoo for loaning us these precious animals.

They will be dearly missed,
Pouakai Zoo Family
