Smart Bowen Therapy is designed for athletes. It releases connective tissue that becomes glued when the muscles contract. From a lymphatic drainage point, the treatment heaps remove toxins from the body. It also gives the animal back its freedom of movement. When unwell in a specific area, the body off-loads until there is nowhere to shift the weight to. This is when an arm or knee collapses.. Or
in animals, a stifle, knee or hock. The warning we get in horses is a splint, lameness, on one rein and a change in demeanor. If the pressure is not taken off that leg, the horses tendon are generally the next thing to go. The bio-mechanics show up any imbalances when there is a problem. My treatment is holistic. In order for me to complete the treatment, i must also look at all other aspects - teeth, feet, saddles, the balance of the rider and in some cases-diet. I travel thoroughout nz if i have enough animals in far away places to make the trip feasible. I look forward to meeting you & making your horse and/or dog a happier more comfortable animal.. Kind Regards,
Jo Jenner

COLLECTION TO COMBAT KISSING SPINES
Kissing spines seems to be the lameness du jour these days. Iβve seen a bunch of posts and articles on the subject lately. Here are a couple of my observations. Nobody in those posts talks about training proper collection by engagement of the hindquarters. Most only mention lowering the head/neck. The thoracic sling is not, does not, and can not lift up the front end of the horse. Thatβs the job of the hindquarters.

Here is the ulcer recipe and later I will go over some of the reasons why horses get ulcers.
As with any ulcer treatment that raises the pH to stop further erosion of stomach tissue through acidity, only use it for a few weeks at a time because the low pH is essential for good digestion and for killing pathogens like salmonella and to ensure the pH is correct throughout the digestive tract.
If the pH is at the incorrect level, then it is a recipe for compromised gut flora.
Stage one which starts in the mouth is the most important ingredient to protect form ulcers. A horse must produce 20 litres of saliva to buffer the pH.
Make sure your horse has access to long stalky roughage that stimulates saliva production through massaging the roof of the mouth with rough vegetation.
We have a couple of minis here for my horse fix and they get hedge trimmings to nibble at all day and they also get white willow branches.
They place a tiny hoof on the branch and pull away contentedly at their aspirin fix that will protect them from laminitis.

Such a good idea..
I know trees take a while to get up. Just in case you have some of these available to you or on your property?
Some good tips in this post

With the anxiety over the supply and availability of feed I think this is a good time to introduce alternatives which are well within everyone's reach
SO HAY COSTS AND ARM AND LEG
So let us go back to old systems of feeding livestock and still is practiced today in the Middle East.
It is called
TREE HAY
The image is of willow branches hung up in bundles to dry. We grow white willow which would be one of the best willow species not only for its anti inflammatory qualities but also feed values.
Ideal for laminitic prone horses.
We can all do this here and i will make up a list of species that we can used here in New Zealand.
I have summarized this from a short article on line
Ted Green MBE. He is a Founder President of the Ancient Tree Forum and Conservation Consultant to the Crown Estate Windsor. Ted is a pioneer of the theory that ancient trees were once βworking treesβ and argues that they are gene banks and reservoirs of disease and pest resistance in a similiar fashion to old races of our commercial crops.

Tree Hay: A forgotten fodder
History
β’ The collection of tree leaves for feeding stock, usually from pollards,
β’ Believed to have been widespread across Europe until recent times.
β’ There is evidence that the practice pre-dates the making of hay from herb rich meadows and has been a farming practice for at least three millennia.
β’ The leaf fodder or βtree hayβ was stored for feeding to stock during the winter, especially in mountain areas, but was also a vital source of animal feed in periods of drought especially in free draining soils.
β’ It was also an insurance against failure of the hay crop due to cold, wet summers
β’ Trees with deeper root systems and mycorrhizal fungal associations can access moisture and nutrients and produce green leaves when other plants have dried up.
β’ The leaves may also be richer in nutrients because of this.
β’ Some tree leaves are known to have medicinal benefits and stock will self-medicate where they have the opportunity..
