Very exciting to have this little goodie in my toolbox! Can't wait to put it to good use Nele Svensson- Equine Therapy & Naturopathy ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
The importance of taking time. Time for the horse to stop, relax, process and understand. To some it may seem like Rocky is just standing there, but when you look closer and notice the smaller details, you will see there is so much happening in this moment of stillness. His bottom lip, his nostril, his eyes, his ears, his shifting of weight, all show signs of internal processing, and then given the time he needs he gives a nice lick of his lips and shows me he has hit "save" in his brain.
Be patient. Give them time they need, and you'll find your answers come a lot quicker, from a happier horse.
Rocky has been ticking away nicely, learning something new every day and gaining confidence. Here is a clip of his first canter, with a pretty cute little stop on him already!
Tommy had a great time exploring down the river today. Even managed to drag the old girl Tess out for an adventure!
All ready to head back to his owner tomorrow and continue his adventures.
3rd canter for Tommyhawk. A relaxed horse will always be my top priority, and Tommy shows exactly that!
Wini is learning the importance of standing patiently at the mounting block. Park up nice and close, with no fidgeting or walking off before I'm ready
Kody is at the stage where he is ready to head home to be a station hack, so we are getting him out and about a little first. Today was river's and water crossing, which he took like a champ and was curious but confident. He is going to make one heck of a horse!
How lucky am I to have such a great paddock for my babies to explore and learn their feet!
Galliano had his second session on leading and feet handling today. I absolutely love the brains on the babies I breed ๐๐๐ผ he will make someone a true gentleman! Available once weaned.
Whiskey had her second ride back in work today, and her first time playing with bridleless work. This mare really does have the best mind out there. Whoever buys her will have a superstar in their paddock ๐
Mr Hunter is getting the hang of parking up next to a mounting block, not bad for a first session. Makes life so much easier getting on ๐
When you become a good leader for your horse, they will choose to seek you for comfort. Not through restraints of a halter or bridle, simply because they find comfort in your calm and confident presence, and enjoy the feeling of being with you harmoniously.
Do scary things around your young horses. Help them learn how to control their own emotions and understand that life might be scary but people won't ask them to do anything they can't handle. Young minds are like a sponge, we don't want to flood them but we want to fill them with as much understanding as we can, while they're still open to the world.
Off for a Wednesday arvo stroll with young Splash. Little Blue was highly unimpressed that he had to take a baby out for a drive ๐
I love finding ways to get the young ones brains engaged and processing scary things correctly, it's so important that they learn how to handle their emotions correctly when they are young, or it becomes such a bigger issue when they are older.
Buster enjoyed a nice cold hose today. Think I could've done with one too after our workout ๐
We kicked off the year to a great start with the ponies! A wonderful ride up in Hamner Springs with so lovely views. Even found out Whiskey is part hippo and loved the cool off at the end ๐ well deserved after traipsing through the hills and bogs. Next weekend she will be prettied up as a show horse.
Happy Saturday!โจ
You guys loved the screenshots, so I thought Iโd follow it up with the video of Tess - with my own weanling Koda showing some far less impressive moves๐
itโs always nice to see horses looking and feeling so good, as they seem to do around here at Clandeb!
