Just a friendly reminder that there will be a lot of fireworks going off this weekend and to keep your pets safe!
Here are a few tips to help reduce your dog's anxiety:
πΎ Feed your pets before the fireworks start - a full belly can help them feel relaxed and sleepy.
πΎ Get out for an early walk and take them toilet before it gets dark - this will help them to settle into the evening.
πΎ Make sure they have their favourite toys and bedding.
πΎ If your dog prefers to hide, let them! They are trying to do what works best for them to cope with the noises and lights.
πΎ Be cool. Avoid cuddling them and giving them more attention than normal as this will perpetuate the fear and also serve as a reward for being afraid. Instead, casually talk to them, stroke them, and make sure they've got a safe place to curl into.
How does your dog act around fireworks? Would you add any tips to the list?
