Our beautiful bull calf Finn has left us to a new home and new adventures! His new family are extremely happy with him and we are so excited to see what this wonderful lad produces!

We will be posting up how many heifer and bull calves we will have available after weaning in March/April 2024 so watch this space!

The wee cuties are starting to trickle in. 2 heifers and 2 bulls. The weather hasn't been too kind around here so we are thankful for the slow start to calving.

Out early again today making sure everyone is ok. Snow was heavy enough to drop most of our chow fences but luckily no one got out!

The work is never ending here. Since our last update we have pulled the bulls out, weaned and preg tested. We have 27 out of 28 confirmed pregnancies.
Our calves have settled really well after being separated, we try to spend as much time with them as possible with a few already eating chow stalks out of our hands.
Luckily the weather is playing nice with us, for now. But soon the temperature will drop, grass growth will slow and it will be onto the chow paddocks for our mobs.

Had the wind bring down a couple of pine branches so gave it to Braco & his girls. Did you know pine needles contain huge amounts of vitamin C!

Update : yes we are aware it can cause abortions if fed at the incorrect time. Our cows have only just gone to the bull & there is also a mob of sheep in the paddock helping too so they won't be overdoing it

So it's been a year of surprises for us here at Kyle Hill highlands. First with getting our beautiful white bull calf and now this young las!
Apparently this is what you get when Bandit (specklepark bull) has fun with a dark highland cow 🤔.

Will try to get better photos of her and will keep everyone updated with how she grows out.

Lucy and her daughter LJ are looking for new pastures! Lucy is a 2 yr old Speckle Park x that was bottle raised so will come up for treats and scratches, can be brushed but we haven't attempted while she has a calf at foot.

Her daughter LJ was sired by our brindle highland bull Boris of Kyle Hill, who has a sweet and placid temperament and is easy to work with.

We expect LJ to grow out well, she will produce a shaggy coat and horns like a highland and because of her parents temperament we believe she will be a pretty chilled out cow to have around.

LJ is 8 weeks old (born 24-09) so they must go together.

We have been so busy here at Kyle Hill Highlands. Calving is going well with 7 heifers and 4 bull calves on the ground so far. The snow storm we got here in southland a few weeks ago unfortunately caused us to lose one calf that was born in the cold night and we also ended up with an orphan heifer calf that is now being well looked after and loved by the family. We have named her Olwen of Kyle Hill. I will try to get photos of her but she just wants to play all the time.

Yesterday we were blessed with another calf, a very special calf as it is a first for our fold so I had to share photos, a white calf!
We were a little disappointed to discover it is a bull calf but means he will be available after weaning. We will keep you updated with his progress and the progress of all our calves and will let you know if any heifers become available.

Isn't he just cute! Still thinking of a name for him.

It is with a heavy heart that the time has come for our magnificent bull Angus of Munro to move on to new pastures. He has served us well in his tenure at Kyle Hill producing some amazing calves.
He is currently unregistered but can be re-registered with the NZHCS, he is 13 years old however & as we don't have the heart to dehorn him & send him to the works we are open to offers for him. He can come with 1 or 2 older unregistered cows in the pics as company too.
We are open to all options

Kyle Hill 2021 born calves available after weaning. 4 highland heifers, 4 highland bulls and Buster our high-park bull calf. We will be messaging the people on our wait-list tonight.

Fell free to message us if you would like to be added to the wait-list. Please note a deposit will need to be paid on the bull calves to keep them entire otherwise they will be steered.

Well introducing his brother Buster!

Buster is the same breeding as Bandit but has come out red like his father and isn't he just the cutest!

Buster will be up for auction after weaning as I have been told I can't keep everything 😭

If he is anything like his brother he will develop the highland shaggy coat and horns.

Sooo fluffy!

When in doubt, pull it out
Tilde is a heifer and was only presenting with one foot so we decided to get her in and assist. Luckily the other foot wasn't hard to find and within no time we had a live bull calf on the ground.

We will leave mum and bub alone now and check back in later to make sure everyone is ok.

Unfortunately our calving rope was in the wash so we had to improvise! If you don't have a calving rope make sure what ever you use is soft, strong and easily removable that won't cut into calf's legs and won't leave any foreign fibres inside the cow

ITS A BOY!

Kyle hill Highland's calving season has officially started with today's arrival.

Calves will be available for purchase once they are weaned so hit us up if you would like to go onto a wait list. If you have already messaged us in the past please let us know if your still interested and you will go to the top of the list. A deposit will need to be placed on bull calves prior to weaning otherwise all males will be steered

Let the fun begin!
