Fun weekend up central.
We were catching up with family who had just come back from a USA trip. Turned out there was a fundraiser on so I rang up an ex student and she took Bud. Did very well considering he’s in winter mode. which consists of just following the child and his pony around.
Also snapped some photos of the folks mammoth donkeys

A day of firsts for Merlin and Rhys. They had an awesome day at the Otago Dressage Winter Series event. Very relaxed Merlin for his first time in a new environment. Thank you organisers.

Weekend of firsts at the Winter Show Jumping Series. Merlin’s first show/outing! He went superbly with Rhys on board. Didn’t bat an eye at anything. Cole and Charlie did their first show jumping round too. Happy boys all round.

Buddy’s Season has come to an end and what a season he has had. 3 years ago I wasn’t able to even ride him… fast forword to now.

This seasons achievements; doing his biggest trip away travelling 3 days from the Deep South to Taupo for his performance at Equifest and then 2 weeks later horsemanship session at Otago Equine Expo Plus, to leading my final horse trek in the middle of the Lindis Pass, to his mental health work with Stand up for Kids, to looking after student Selene Roberts in eventing (something he’d never done) and coming away with a 4th and a 5th. We’re just so proud of how far he has come.

Lessons we’ve learnt;
- he doesn’t like leather girths 😅
- has developed allergies
- has a week immune system.. Picked up another virus 😔 this time not as bad - thankfully!

He’s really a magnificent being who is so happy in his world teaching us to be better humans.

A well earnt break is on the cards for him now til we perform as part of the Equine Enchantment crew in Wanaka in August ⭐️

Buddy and a telford student horse enjoying their CWT Equine Treatments session today. Buddy went into a deep relaxed state while the TB enjoyed his very much.
So thankful to have CWT as part of our team in helping keep our horses 100%

Great weekend away with friends and enjoying our horses. Merlin had his first off farm trip while Rhys and Buck got more and more confident jumping together.

Welcome to our newest addition to the Barkridge Family! Meet Sirius. A fabulous 3 year old 16.2h (obviously still growing) German warmblood Out of Rdiva H by Swarovski Old. We are thrilled to have him as part of our family. Thank you Belinda for trusting him with us. We are so excited for the future with him. He’s already been a demo horse at two Mental Well-being clinics here at home and now his first photo shoot today 💗

Always on our calendar is Easter Weekend Show in Middlemarch.

Today was the Gymkhana.
I learnt Buddy doesn’t like a leather girth 😅 which ended with me hitting the ground. VERY unlike him. Hitting my head has meant that my weekend will be purely cheering on Cole. Thank you to everyone that helped me and helped Bud. He’s back to his happy self.

Cole had an incredible show.
His first Easter weekend on Charlie. It’s been a big step up coming off his beloved Sugar (added a photo of them from last year)

Massive Thank You to my Equine student Sarah for all your help, grooming the horses & running alongside Cole. Your amazing!

No plaiting for us tonight now but Charlie is competing in the A&P tomorrow at 8am so a good night rest is in store!

We’re quiet on the Barkridge front as I am teaching equine at Telford full time & Rhys is busy on the farm also working with our own young ones. TJ and Buddy had new riders today! One student even had a ride around on Buddy without the bridle!

We were incredibly lucky and thankful to have CWT Equine Treatments equisage over the weekend and boy did June LOVE it. Assisted in keeping her feeling amazing for her first ridden weekend away.

Well well well Charlie Boy… I didn’t plan on teaching this but here we are. Love when expectations are left at the gate and we just move together. Magic happens!

THE REAR!

I started teaching the rear with Skipper but stopped as soon as I found out about his navicular. I didnt want to hurt him with the heavy landing. Although he enjoyed to rear. Lots of videos of him on Instagram doing it.

And with Buddy, he is a just a sensitive soul who is still fragile. I told myself it would be the very last thing I teach if I ever teach him at all.

Then Charlie today, I just thought I’d play around with some liberty/energy/intention work and see what happened. Right before this he gave me so much energy (in the draw) so I asked for the rear by pushing my energy back at him. Then praised.

I Love how every horse is so different in this journey. Charlie could we’ll make some performance debuts in 2024?!

Our cup and hearts are full after hosting our very first Soul Journey Retreat.
5 beautiful souls joined us for a magical weekend of laugher, exploration, yoga & meditation, creation, horsemanship, getting into nature, eating and so much more.
We are very grateful.

It’s a Stitch up are gonna be at the Milton A&P show tomorrow. If you’re in the area go and see them.
We love our products - they have been tried and tested for years. They are made to last and are funky!

We also have a large horse bean bag that Nat custom made for us!

Happy horses

Do your horses like sea lions? First time these two have encountered them on the beach. Today we had two 🦭 One very big male which we did not film as it was coming towards us!

Together as one… We’re always striving to strengthen our bond. There’s no finish point to the depth of connection. For us taking the bridle off is about moving together, happily, relaxed and in sync with each other’s energy. True partnership. And yes I talk to him 🥰
