This weekend, horse riders across Aotearoa will be taking to the roads to create and raise awareness around their vulnerability on the road.

Organised by Pass Wide and Slow New Zealand close to 50 awareness rides are planned over 14-15 September to promote the important messages and educate drivers around the following tips ⤵️

↔️ 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄: Give at least 2 metres space and slow down as you approach or pass.
⛔ 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝘁: Toot, shout, rev your engine as you pass or drive away.
✋ 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹: Take notice and follow the riders hand signals.
🛻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴: Take extra care when towing, make sure nothing is flapping or making noise as this can scare the horse.

Oxford Pony Club - New Zealand is proud of our members attending the SISS Interschools Championships. The event offers riders the opportunity to take part in Competitive Trail Riding (CTR), Jumping/Show Hunter, Dressage and Arena eventing. Heres a video snashot of the fun they had last week !

🙌Another busy weekend for our Oxford Pony Club - New Zealand ,Working bee on Saturday at the grounds.
🎉Congratulations to Paige who had a great day at Halswell ODEon Saturday... leading after dressage, double clear jumping, to win her class!
❄️Followed by a wintery blast for most families on Sunday! Which included pony portraits in the snow and horse themed board games.

🫢Wow what busy few weeks.

Rally comencing with learning how to do a Vet trot up just like the Olympics, then ridden certificate work. A number of members have been out with their ponies eventing and last Sunday a few competing at Belfast first start and others assisting the club with dressage writing and jump judging.
Today we have our working 🐝 1.00pm at our grounds to build x-country jumps all help appreciated🙌

The Big Shout-out is campaign throughout June, encouraging everyone to give a shout-out to volunteers. Aotearoa New Zealand is a nation of volunteers – more than a million of us volunteer, giving our time and energy to make a difference in our communities.

Lots of fun, smiles & laughter on Sunday at Oxford Pony Club - New Zealand rally. Learning valuable skills, building friendships, D+ riders defining circles and stride lengths. Then a special demo from local hairdresser Donna Coster, teaching tricks of the trade giving Vinnie a makeover!
Then in the afternoon a few members headed off to support Paige Wakelin-Noble at Kaiapoi ODE who rode very well despite a challenging cross country course which included a water jump.... into a flowing stream!🐎

🎉Congratulations to Paige Wakelin-Noble who competed today at Waihora ODE taking 2nd place in her 80cm class. Paige & Thunder started well with dressage to secure 2nd place with a score of 73.16% , then clear in show jumping & then onto cross country jumping clear again. What an amazing team! 🐎

Sponsor Appreciation - Grayburn Downs Ltd is based in the Sheffield Valley, with the property consisting of rolling hills to steeper inclines which is perfect for building up horses' strength and fitness, not to mention sure-footedness whilst turned out. The Sheffield Valley is good, fertile land that often gets the overflow rain from the West Coast so often stays greener than other areas in Mid Canterbury. Stock do very well over here on the pasture and we have a mixture of newer pastures and rougher, old pastures on the steeper inclines.
Previously the 50ha property was a deer farm so, the fencing is all deer fenced with the exception of the house paddocks, so your horses are well contained during their stay. They will be exposed to everyday farm life with sheep and cattle on the property at different times of the year, tractor work and there is even some Wapati in the neighboring paddocks. The paddocks all provide something different; some have steeper inclines whilst others are more rolling and there is shelter in the large majority of the paddocks. With having cattle and sheep on the property, cross grazing is happening as well to reduce the parasite build up in the soil. Water is available in all paddocks in the form of automatic water troughs and/or creeks.
I (Casey) am an experienced horse woman who has been involved with horses since a young age. my partner Aaron has also been involved with horses with trekking and rodeos since he was young. We have recently relocated from the West Coast where we used to farm and muster cattle on horseback. Your horses will be in good hands. We are very observant and take
great pride in animal health, coming first and foremost at Grayburn Downs.

We are sooo excited ......its our final day of our Junior Dressage Series on Sunday. Good luck to all of our competitors this weekend! 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅 Prize giving of the Championship ribbons will be awarded no earlier than 30 minutes after final results have been posted on the clubhouse window. Grab a sausages sizzle,🌭 mingle & enjoy meeting new people, bring a hobby horse along to entertain the kids.

Ethan Taylor rode clear in the 80cm & 90cm at the Waimak Riding Club show on Sunday. What an achievement, well done Ethan!

North Canterbury teams champs 24 March 2024. Both teams went home with a bunch of ribbons 🎀🎀. The lead rein team was 2nd overall. The pre novice team was 4th overall and with only three riders. Thank you to parents, grandparents and our Head Coach Justine Robinson for supporting our young riders 🐎
