Situated in the beautiful Maratoto Valley, between Paeroa and Thames, Chester Farm is a professional, well established horse training and rider training facility owned by Greg Jamieson.

Many of the visitors to Chester Farm, in recent years, were greeted at the gate by Larry, the boxer dog.
He was always happy to greet anyone and be ready to play or hang out or clean up the bbq scraps, too!
He was well taught by his old mate Barney, who started the tradition before handing the responsibility over to Larry in 2015.

Larry, sadly, recently passed away at the age of 10, and we have many special memories left from his presence at the farm.
He and I experienced a lot of life and traveled all over the North Island together over those 10 years, and he is sadly missed by me and his little buddy Shelby, too .
They leave a big hole in our lives when they leave, but we are so lucky to be able to share their unconditional love and such wonderful times with them !

Attention Hawkes Bay and surrounding areas!

I am getting a team of ConTact C.A.R.E practitioners together to help support the flood affected animals and humans in any of the flood affected areas.
This will be voluntary work, and we are preparing to assist anyone who has been adversely affected by the weather event.

ConTact C.A.R.E student Seaz Phillips has been doing an amazing job these past weeks post cyclone, and we are looking to add and assist her in helping in any way possible.

Help will be ongoing throughout the month of March, so please get in touch for any trauma, stress , injury, health, or anxiety issues that have been presented since the Cylone event.

As I am closing in on the last few days spent here at the farm, it's time to reflect on the times spent here and the vision we were able to create.
These before and after shots were taken in 2010,
The bottom one is the day the diggers from Arnett Development arrived to start the work on the house and arena site.
The top one after the original house and arena was completed.

We had a fair bit of water pass the farm overnight!! You can see how high it got in the wee hours of this morning. A few trees and branches are down, but we have been lucky compared to many so far ! Video courtesy of Courtney Amrein 🙂

With over 200mls of rain falling in the past 48 hours,and with it still raining, the farm is wet and sodden so there unfortunately will be no camping available over the next week or so until things start to dry out again. The adjoining creek which is usually the scene of summer swims and fun, is currently running at a dangerously swift and high level and the grass parking areas in the camping paddock are very soft. Arena hire is fine as the metal parking and arena surfaces are all weather for those that feel like a ride in the rain !!

Lockdown Chester Farm style !

Morning all ☀️🙂 A beautiful early Autumn morning here this morning as Im sure it is everywhere. A reminder that you may hire the facilities here at Chester Farm. $20 per horse/ rider combo will get you a full numbered Showjumping Course set in the arena and the training Derby course with over 20 low level fences is also included. You may prefer a nice tranquil road ride or venture up into the nearby bush track to get closer to nature. All the yards toilets etc are available and for those who just cant fit everything into 1 day take advantage of the idyllic camping surroundings bbq picinic area and hot showers for your convenience. And of course if you build up a sweat you can cool off in the swimming hole. Who needs HOY anyway ....?? This weekend is available and also al of Easter weekend too. Our Story

Situated in the beautiful Maratoto Valley, between Paeroa and Thames, Chester Farm is a professional, well established horse training and rider training facilitour our main focus is on helping horses and riders establish a strong foundation to their training to help set them up for success. We believe that confidence and progress can be achieved at any level when awareness of basic principals is followed and applied in a consistent manner. We work with horses and riders all year round, these days our main focus is on coaching and assisting riders of all ages and levels, including at our popular 2 and 3 day riding clinics and camps. Over the years we have enjoyed producing many of our own young Warmblood horses for sale and competition, these days our riding time is more for fun while enjoying the reward of competition success and personal ambitions achieved through the horses and riders that we coach and work with. At Chester Farm we strive to create a positive, safe and practical approach to all aspects of horse and rider training and incorporate the use of ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release as an effective tool to help horse/rider combinations work through any pressure walls caused by injury that may affect normal training practices,in our daily routine and lessons. Greg is an Advanced Equine ConTact C.A.R.E Practitioner and an Approved Foundation Instructor of Equine and Human and he offers ConTact C.A.R.E treatments both at our home clinic and throughout the North Island, as well as in Australia and Europe for both people and horses with many fantastic results.
