After a bit of a hiatus, an original TVS Pahiatua team member has made a glorious return. ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿค

Some of you may remember our original rocking cow gracing our waiting room. Some may even remember riding on her as a child. Thanks to a wonderful restoration by our multi-talented vet Cayleigh Carter, she is back where she belongs.

But now we need your help naming her! Add your best and most creative names in the comment section below and you could be the lucky winner of a Braven BRV Blade Bluetooth Speaker and a $50 TVS Gift Voucher.

TVS staff will decide on a winner on Monday June 10th and contact the winner directly. ๐Ÿ’™

We know itโ€™s hard out there as we head into winter with less feed than normal. Make sure you head along to the afternoon session in Alfredton

๐Ÿ“ข Attention Wairarapa Farmers! ๐ŸŒฑ

Like it or not, after the worst autumn in over 30 years, weโ€™re all going to be short grass farmers for the next 5 months. To be under this much pressure heading into winter will be foreign territory for all except the most seasoned farmers out there.

To help alleviate some of the โ€œdecision makingโ€ pressure, we are hosting sessions to discuss the current situation and the strategies available to us.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ TIME AND DATE: Tuesday, 11 June 2024
- Morning Session: 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM - Martinborough Rugby Club.
- Afternoon Session: 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM - Alfredton Hall.

Registrations are essential, register here โžก๏ธ: https://beeflambnz.com/events/blnz-wairarapa-farming-profit-field-day-short-grass-farming

Lots going on with horses at the moment, dentals, feet x-rays, and lots of leg wounds.

If you have an older pony now is a great time to get them tested for PPID (Cushings). This is common in older ponies (15yo +) and some of the signs include lameness, unusual fat deposits, and long coats.

As we head into winter we commonly see rat bait poisoning in dogs and have seen numerous cases in the last 3 weeks. Please please:

* check bait daily
* if you suspect your dog has ingested rat bait please call the clinic asap as undiagnosed ingestion can be fatal

We welcome Tracey to the Dannevirke team! ๐Ÿ’™

Tracey joins us from sunny South Africa where she has been a vet for 6 years. She grew up on a family farm (dairy and poultry) near Port Elizabeth, where her brother is the 5th generation to farm. Tracey has spent the last 5 years as a mixed practice vet in the rural town of Somerset East before her and her fiancรฉ Jean relocated to New Zealand with their 2 cats Maverick and Kratos. Tracey is particularly interested in growing her Udder Health knowledge.

We made sure Traceyโ€™s desk had all the NZ goodies to welcome her to the team and to Dannevirke!

Heโ€™s done it! 2024 NZ Shears Open Champion! In October 2021, David Buick suffered life-threatening injuries in a farm accident. He was told heโ€™d never work again. But tonight, the Master Shearer from Pongaroa won the New Zealand Shears Open Final in Te Kuiti. Congratulations Dave. Incredible victory. ^Ro

Fantastic to see Robyn How from the Tararua Breeding Centre win this award. We have worked alongside Robyn for many years, and are delighted to see her acknowledged in this way.

The wonderful Robyn How took out our Beale Trucking Women in Agriculture Award.

Robyn was nominated in all three categories last night and is a hugely deserving winner.

In this picture, she is joined by sponsor and judge Toyah Harding from Beale Trucking - another fabulous woman in agriculture in our district!!

Robyn, originally from Australia, established the Tararua Breeding Centre in NZ, pioneering cattle reproduction techniques and offering semen collection and export services. Passionate about animal welfare, she expanded her business to include sheep reproduction, quarantine facilities, and sheep genetics export, while also mentoring others in the industry and actively contributing to agricultural events and education initiatives. Judges were impressed at her innovation, passion and dedication to the rural sector.

Congratulations to Robyn and all the nominees!

As vets report an increase in the number of parvovirus cases around the country, the NZVA is urging puppy owners to prioritise essential vaccinations to prevent heartbreak ๐Ÿ’”

Here are our top tips for reducing the risk of parvo:

โœ… Get your dog vaccinated by a veterinarian
โœ… Keep unvaccinated or partially vaccinated puppies away from unvaccinated dogs and areas where dogs commonly walk
โœ… Keep them restricted to properties with no history of parvovirus as the disease can survive in affected areas for several years
โœ… Make sure guests aren't bringing potentially contaminated material to your property (remember to โ€˜clean the poo from the shoe!โ€™)
โœ… Talk to your vet about the parvovirus risk in your area
โœ… Ask your vet about an appropriate vaccination and socialisation programme for your puppy.

Today on , we remember the animals who served in wartime, from the pigeons who carried important messages to the horses on the frontlines. Dogs and donkeys also played an important role in war, with dogs helping to find the wounded and donkeys carrying wounded soldiers to field stations so they could be treated.

It is estimated that more than 8 million animals sacrificed their lives in World War I alone. Today we remember these brave animals and their sacrifices ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
