THE Power Of A Micro Chip!
A Friday 'FOUND' story to have you smiling😄
Bo, a nearly 11-year-old male tabby cat, went missing at the end of November 2020 and was just reunited with his family earlier this month after more than three and a half years!
In late 2020, Bo’s family had recently moved from town to a more rural area and luckily they had the foresight to get Bo microchipped only a few weeks before their move ‘just in case’. They kept him inside at the new house for several days, but he loves exploring so they eventually let him outside to check out his new surroundings. Just a few days later he seemingly vanished.
Bo's family searched their new area extensively and alerted the neighbours at their previous address to keep an eye out for him in case he returned. Vicki, Bo's guardian, says they always knew Bo was a resourceful boy, but they sadly resigned to the fact it might have been a bit of a lost cause after so many years.
Then out of the blue, Vicki received the call from her vet which she had just been to earlier in the day with one of their other pets for a checkup. She was surprised to see them ringing and even more surprised when they shared the incredible news that Bo was in their clinic alive and well and waiting to be reunited with his family! Bo was found a mere 600m away from his home by a member of the public who took Bo into the local vet and when they scanned for a microchip it came up as marked as Lost on the NZCAR.
The family are so very grateful that they had him microchipped before their move and that they continued to keep their contact details up to date on the NZCAR.
Bo has settled back in nicely, strolling around the house like he’s never left! He’s in fantastic condition and full of purrs and smooches for his favourite humans - Vicki’s children (11, 14 and 16). She said it was a very special afternoon seeing the joy on her kids’ faces with the two youngest bursting into tears when they saw Bo home safely once again.
Welcome home Bo! 🥰
If your pet goes missing, be sure to log into the NZCAR and make sure your details are up to date. Some animals are found, months or even years (like Bo) after they go missing! If your pet is not microchipped or registered, head over to www.animalregister.co.nz to learn more.
