📣 Supporting Excellence in Veterinary Care

The New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association (NZVNA) commends the Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) on the release of the 2024 Monitoring Guidelines for Veterinary Anaesthesia.

These updated guidelines represent a critical step forward in ensuring the highest standards of care for animals undergoing anaesthesia. They provide evidence-based recommendations to support veterinary professionals, including veterinary nurses and technicians, in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate anaesthetic monitoring practices.

At NZVNA, we are dedicated to advancing the veterinary nursing profession. We strongly encourage all veterinary professionals to familiarise themselves with these guidelines and integrate them into their practice. Together, we can continue to elevate the standard of veterinary care across Aotearoa.

For more details on the guidelines, visit the ANZCVS VAA Chapter website: https://www.anzcvs.org.au/chapters/veterinary+anaesthesia+and+analgesia+chapter/news/anzcvs-vaa-chapter-monitoring-guidelines-2024/

We're with you on this The New Zealand Veterinary Association

Pets are a forever decision. You are their whole world. If you are thinking of welcoming a pet into your home, do your research first. The NZVA have a great guide on some of the questions to think about in their website.

🎄🎄 With less than a month to go until Christmas, we want to remind everyone that pets are furever - not just for gifts!

Thousands of animals are abandoned each year and we often see big spikes in this number after holidays like Christmas.

If you're thinking about getting a new pet (or your child is begging you for one), make sure you're in it for the long haul. Check out our guide for choosing a pet (including questions to ask yourself first) at 👉 nzva.org.nz/public/pets/choosing

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Dr Jess Beer from Vet Behaviour for the fantastic webinar she presented last night on 'helpful tips for handling anxious dogs and cats in clinic'. There was an amazing turn out with over 1000 people who had signed up from all around the world!

I went to see Jess for Dotty's vaccinations today at Ellerslie Veterinary Clinic and we had the best experience. We were greeted by the fabulous reception team and nurses and asked where Dotty would be most comfortable to wait. Low stress handling techniques were used throughout the consultation and LOTS of treats and reassurance for Dotty were given....... it genuinely it makes such a huge difference.

Here is Dotty telling Jess what a fabulous human she is and that she feels like she needs some more treats in her life!
Thanks so much again Jess 🥰
