Right folks, I am overworked and understaffed at the moment.
Is there anyone who would be interested in either a working student position with me for the season, or someone local who can help with the horses in the afternoons?

Pretty happy with this amazing baby horse! She did two level 2 tests on Sunday, scoring 62% on her first test and 56% on her second (where she was very tired!). She tried her little heart out and showed that she is going to be exceptional when she builds her fitness! Coroglen Aurora is one to watch out for in the future as we lead into her first competition season!!

Coroglen Aurora 😍
Our superstar 4 year old strutting her stuff! She found the young event horse at Taupo very overwhelming when all the horses left the area for her jumping! But she redeemed herself jumping round the 70, 80 & 90 at Waikanae show jumping the following weekend! She is such a superstar and really one to watch!

Yesterday we said good bye to .nz who has been with us at Coroglen Equestrian since January 2023. She has been a huge asset to the team looking after the team of horses at home and at shows while also competing her horses, first Top Notch and more recently Coroglen Primadona as well as my little mare Coroglen Ziva.
We are very sad to say good bye for now, but excited to see her move on into the big wide world and get more experiences in different stables!
We can’t wait to see what Crystal achieves in the future and can’t wait to see her out and about in the competition circuit!

Thoroughbreds are just the XC kings! Who else enjoyed watching the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event 5* last weekend? What a great event, and an incredible showcase for the cross country ability of thoroughbreds with five full thoroughbreds taking part. I did a bit of number crunching after the event, and the numbers are impressive:
⭐5/32 horses to start the XC were thoroughbreds – they all jumped clear, so that was a 100% clear rate
⭐The other 27 horses achieved a 55.5% XC clear rate
⭐The thoroughbreds had a mean average of 2.64 time penalties
⭐The non-thoroughbreds that completed the course had a mean average of 8.02 time penalties
That’s an incredible difference.
And it’s why every time I see an advert from someone who is looking for an event horse that will be able to progress to the higher levels of the sport but specifies ‘no thoroughbreds’ a little part of me dies inside. Thoroughbreds can do everything that the expensive WBs can do – just watch Artist’s dressage test if you want evidence (also shoutout to EventStars Ltd who probably have the best rehoming operation in the whole world that Artist came through). There is no horse that will give as much and as willingly as a well-trained TB.
All of those thoroughbreds looked fantastic around the course – they didn’t tire, they kept galloping all the way to the end. Those are the kind of positive images that the sport needs – not the image of heavier set warmblood types getting tired and weary and being carried home.
And of those 5 horses - Twilightslastgleam, Artist, Phelps, Harbin and Sorocaima – their racing starts number 0, 0, 0, 4 and 43 respectively – showing that ability on the track isn’t required to translate into eventing success, but *also* that horses that have had significant mileage on the track like Sorocaima can also still go on to have really successful athletic second careers. And in fact, it was Harbin and Sorocaima who did race that were the two horses that left all the showjump poles up on Sunday too.
I love the fact that eventing is a sport where you can buy a horse for less than you might spend on your month’s supermarket shopping, and still get to the absolute pinnacle of the top of the sport. That’s something that inspires me so much.

Super happy with how Lexi did in the dressage yesterday! She was super! We scored a respectable 65.14% and are sitting in 12th going into cross country today!

Dex (Coroglen Lion Heart) is a super cool 7 year old tb gelding by Rip Van Winkle. He is a beautifully built 16.1hh (aprox) boy! He has lovely movement and an exceptional jump! He has show jumped to 1.10 and evented to 95cm (easily schooling 2* cross country). He has walk to canter, canter to walk, leg yield, shoulder in all established. He is establishing flying changes, quarters in and half pass. He has been hacked out and been to the beach. He is very easy to handle on the ground and he is good in the paddock. While Dex is a super cool horse he can be tricky, he goes best with consistent, clear riding. He can be a perfect angel one day under saddle and find everything a bit hard the next day. He doesn’t like if he can’t understand something and can be explosive. He is not a beginner or nervous riders horse. He could be a super dressage horse or eventer. I can easily see him going 3*. I am in no rush to sell him, but I do need to reduce numbers, working full time and running a big team of horses is getting too busy and I want to focus on the ones I have bred. Price is negotiable but home is not, he will not go without full disclosure of his issues. 8k

Really lovely to have around, we have had no issues with him on the property, he is happy on his own and with lots of different horses. He has been easy to handle to in every way! He has jumped to 90 in the past, and to 1m with us this week, he has some serious scope and is a seriously cool fun jumper! He can be a bit girthy in winter but we haven’t had any trouble with him at all while handling him at Coroglen! I think he would be best suited to a rider who wants to get out and do a bit of everything, he is a super cool pony club type mount! Really cool pony who will make someone very happy! Good in the paddock with my lot, old and young. Super honest jumper! I think would be best suited to a kid who wants to go out and have some fun! Easy to handle!
Pj is needing to find a new home as we have too many horses and not enough hours in the day! I will consider all offers around 10k. He is an exceptionally cool horse! Acts like a sweet old pony and performs like a sport horse. His price will increase drastically during the season as the plan is to get him up to 2* this year if he sticks around! Sadly with me working full time and having 15 horses some hard decisions have to be made! 6yo tb 15.1hh
Two weeks ago I was ready to give up with this horse. Trix is a Guilitine mare who I bought when I had promised everyone including myself that I wouldn’t be getting any more horses. She was pretty good for a couple of weeks but after having some time off to fatten up she can back refusing to go forward and not wanting to work in the arena (or anywhere really). My goal became to get her to go forward, I didn’t care if it was a walk, trot, canter, bolt as long as she wasn’t moving backwards. About 2 weeks ago we had a huge breakthrough and she suddenly decided that she could not only go forward but could be soft and listed too! Then today I gave her a jump and she gave me this! She is a very talented mare and I was willing to work through and issues to get her on my side. These types of horses are not for everyone, you don’t want to look for the most talented horse if you are just wanting to have nice consistent relaxing rides. And vice versa if you are wanting a horse that has the potential and desire to compete at the top level you cannot expect them to be the most chilled or relaxed horse.
Crystal Wilson appreciation post! Crystal is an absolute super star! She has been riding Ziva, Pj and Dex and doing an amazing job! Dex is a tricky wee character, he is very strong and can feel like a bus to ride! Crystal has been doing so well riding him at home and topped it off by doing a cracking round in the 80cm to come away with 2nd! She also rode Ziva in the 90, 1m and 1.10m coming away with 3rd in the 1.10! She has shown courage, determination, and incredible skill and I could not be more impressed with how she handles herself!
Pixie! Pixie has been with me for a while for schooling while her owner has been out with an injury, she is a super cool 5yo tb who takes everything in her stride. Unfortunately her owner is taking longer to heal than expected so is wanting to find someone to ride her for rest of this year. We would love to find a lease home for her for the rest of the year, she is very easy to have around and manage! Please send me a message if you can offer her a home for the rest of the year. She has been out hunting and she will be lots of fun for someone wanting to have a horse but perhaps doesn’t have the ability to have a horse long term.
